Re: Woody por modem (parece durillo)
^pi^,,, wrote: Dr. Aldo Medina wrote: Carlos López wrote: Buenas a todos. Vamos a ver. -- Linux User #98419 -o)| My computer NEVER cras...
No comment.

Is there other information I could find to help? I have tried the nm command with the three functions referenced below, and the only consistent difference I can see is the lack of a bunch of alphanumerics after the name shown on the last line of that listing. this small difference in the symbolnames _could_ be an indication that there's some kind of prototype mismatch. You might want to use nm's -C option to demangle those cryptic alphanumerics. This will give you a more human-readable output, though I'm not sure whether it'll help you beyond that... (see 'man c++filt' for a short intro on what mangling is about). The problem turned out to be in the get_atom_type.cc file. The top lines are: /* get_atom_type.cc */ /* #ifdef sgi */ #include stdio.h #include get_atom_type.h /* #else extern C { #include stdio.h #include get_atom_type.h } #endif */ Note that I commented out all but the includes for an SGI. (Don't ask me why/how that works... I stumbled onto it. I do thank Hendrik Sattler for some prodding and another offer to help from Anthony Lau.) I would try to locate the implementation of the 'get_atom_type(char *, char *)' function in the source code (most probably in get_atom_type.cc) and see whether it has the required prototype (the one that the linker's undefined reference message complains about). I guess this is what the above lines involve? Somehow, however, I doubt that some bug like this would have made it into the AutoDock distribution. Or is this a brand new release, that no one else has yet tried to compile? I'm not sure. There are several packages at the ftp site which appear to be transitional ones. My guess is this (the current one) still fits that mold. The group seems to focus largely on SGI, Alpha, Sun, HP, and Convex. The calculations are quite intensive... perhaps they don't have many requests for Linux/PC machines? There are some lines commented for Linux in the Makefiles, but obviously there are other problems. I'm admittedly a bit miffed by their complete lack of response in any way to my emails. Maybe I'm too sensitive?? :) Too bad this isn't open source -- otherwise I could have given it a quick try myself... Anyway, good luck! Thanks. I've already found another problem in a different program in the package. Different post for that one. Kenward -- It is not so very important for a person to learn facts. You want to look at hotplug. It is in testing and unstable. If you are running potato with Adrian Bunk's stuff to enable 2.4 kernel support then you will want to compile it separately. This is how you do that: Change the /etc/apt/sources.list to include this line: deb-src http://ftp.au.debian.org/pub/debian testing main contrib non-free Then do the following: apt-get update apt-get install debhelper apt-get source --build hotplug dpkg -i hotplug_0.0.20010228-3_all.deb You will also need usbutils from testing so do this too: apt-get source --build usbutils This will create a file called /sbin/hotplug which does the same stuff as usbmgr did for the 2.2 kernels. OT: unterminated character constant during a compile??
I apologize for the OT but as I mentioned in another post, I don't know any other source of good help (I'm open to recommendations...). I have tried to compile an app forming part of a molecular docking package (not the same program forming the subject of that other post, but another in the package) and have encountered an error about an unterminated character constant. Help: Partition OK but packages all screwed up
Hi, I posted a message about my Partition Screw-up. Thanks to those who replied. I have the system booting off floppy. I worked out that I needd to recreate /lib/modules/2.2.17 and copy files/directories from /lib/modules.old/2.2.17 which fixed the modprobe problem and gives me back my LAN. For newcomers:- Computer Gateway 5150 Notebool PII-233 64Mb RAM 4.3 GB HDD dual boot WinNT/Linux. I expanded the partition but failed to realise that LILO uses an absolute position for the boot sector and so it would not boot. At that point panic set in. I decided that I must have screwed up the kernel image and so did a base install from the 2.2r0 CD. With help from a number of people I have it so it boots and loads modules. On completion of the boot it presents a copy of the Debian System Configuration screens - the md5 password one! If I follow the prompts through 4 screens there is brief flash of text loading /usr/share/keymaps/i386/qwerty/us/kmaps.gz - as best I can read it. So how doI fix that? I can log in on tty2, only as root and without a password. I have 1230196 blocks used but dpkg only shows 79 of 296 packages installed. startx comes up with a message that libXmu.so.6 is missing and a find doesn't find it. All the X packages are there in /var/cache/apt/archives. Prior to my breaking it the system was running Ximian1.4 Gnome (just upgraded from Helix1.2) , ice-wm, with Netcape as my mail/news reader. If anyone know how to get apt/capt to recognise the existing packages it would be a great help. Well I guess I proved the old adage a little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing :) Any suggestions on how to procede would be very welcome. TIA, Tim Wood

I don't know why :-( Probably it means that you are using open source nvidia driver from XFree86. Nvidia binary driver does not need dri because it uses its own method for fast 3d. Apache, CGI, and LXR troubles
Hello folks, I recently asked about a source code cross reference programm and decided to give LXR (http://lxr.linux.no/) a try. Well, it uses some CGI scripts which are located in /usr/local/lxr/http. I have symlinked this directory to /var/www/lxr, so it is in Apache's document tree. In the INSTALL file, it says to stick the following code into the /usr/local/lxr/http/.htaccess file, so Apache will execute the CGI-scripts. Files ~ (search|source|ident|diff)$ SetHandler cgi-script /Files Unfortunately, when I point my web browser to http://localhost/lxr/source, it will show the contents of the Perl script. Likewise with search, ident, and diff. I don't know a lot about apache (nothing more than to serve some PHP pages from within my ~/public_html directory), so I'm stuck. Any help? Re: php not working
basically what is happening is the php code is being sent to your browser instead of being executed by the server. you need to tell the server that a component (in this case mod_php) needs to process the file first, hence the AddHandler... Like the documentation said I added this to the apache srm.conf. AddHandler php3-script .php3 and now even the .php3 files dont work? Any more ideas? Thanks Do You Yahoo!? Re: php not working
Actually I ran into a similar problem with an older version of php4 I had installed after I upgraded mysql. Essentially the upgrade of mysql changed the library used to connect to it, causing php to fail to load on startup. Check your apache logs and make sure that php isn't generating an error (if it doesn't load, it can't handle any php files!). I have just spent several hours last night getting my new V3 card to work with 4.0.2. Here are my thoughts (And I did get it to work) 1. compile kernel with agp, DRI support (I didnt build DRI module like they suggested, I used DRI that came with the kernel source), and your chipset support. In X, put in Load glx Load dri into the Xconfig file. Verify that you are in fact using correct libs (in my case, I had to remove my old glut3g and mesa3g libs and install xlibmesa3 and xlibosmesa3. The best document you can read on this issue is the DRi user guide on X's page (http://www.xfree86.org/4.0.3/DRI.html), it explains how to vefiry you have everything setup. Solved the problem by removing it entirely and letting xfs (the XFree4 font server) handle the truetype fonts. Works like a charm. The font output isn't too bad, but it looks REALLY nice under KDE 2.1.1 on my work machine (TNT2 vidcard, nv driver), although antialiasing slows X down quite a bit. On my laptop (ATI vidcard, ati driver) I can't get KDE's antialiasing to work at all - looks like the ati driver doesn't have AA support just yet. -b3

Re: DVD movie hardware requirements
Hi, you could have chances to get dvds working ok if you use a different software. I currently have PIII-450 w/256Mb and xine is ready to play dvds just perfect since quite some time. My gfx card is a G400 with 32Mb video ram tho. Anyway checkout xine.sourceforgge.net and xine.cjb.net. Installation is quite painless and it works *very* good. Important performance factors are the X version (X4 here) and Xv too. Also using raw devices gives some performance gain. All that tuning measures are provided on those websites and you can use the Wiki Wiki Web on www.linuxvideo.org as well for some tuning tips. After applying all these tuning steps my CPU is now at ~ 60% load while playing dvds seamlessly. hth, Rolf On Sat, 28 Apr 2001, Thomas Halahan wrote: dear deb-user i recently purchased a dvd player and tried to play a dvd movie using videolan. whilst the dvd did play the results were juddery, which i assume comes down to insufficient hardware to decode the dvd in real time. during play my cpu and ram were flat out. after reading the dvd howto i still didn't get a feel for what hardware i would need to get perfect replay. if anyone knows the minimum requirements (if this is definable) i would be very interested. currently i have 2.2.17, 4MB video card, 128MB RAM and 400MHz K6-2. regards tom -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe.
