 ipchains -P forward -j Deny
obteniendo el siguiente resultado: ipchains: -P requires a chain an a policy

(mas informacion ipchains -h / man ipchains)

 Ejecuto: ipchains -A forward -s 192.162.0.2/10 -d 00 -j MASQ
obteniendo como resultado: WARNING you must enabling IP forwarding for
packets to be forwarded at all:
 Use 'echo 1 /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward'

echo 1 /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward

  Samba que encripte las contrasennas, esto se hace en elsmb.conf:;
Passwords are encrypted by default. This way the latest Windows 95 and; NT
clients can connect to the Samba server with no problems.encrypt

Siempre he

dicho... ;-))) saludos.

a ver.... modificar y crear floppy de instalacion debian

2001-06-17 Thread MaX in the FaX

0.9.1 , kde 2.1.1. y kernel 2.2.19 (o 20 si sale a tiempo)

Fw: ITP cdcontrol

2001-06-17 Thread Gustavo Noronha Silva
Meu povo,

[]s!

Começo da mensagem encaminhada:

Date: Sat, 16 Jun 2001 16:52:18 -0400
From: Gleydson Mazioli da Silva [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Subject: ITP cdcontrol

Hi,

I've released the first public cdcontrol today and I would like to
see it in the Debian archives. I've licensed CDcontrol under GPL
licence and it could be downloaded from
http://cdcontrol.sourceforge.net

The first public and stable release is 1.70 and it's fully compatible
with
Linux and FreeBSD systems.

Next, a part of CDcontrol README file:
  ---
CDcontrol is a parallel writting burner. It allow you to write
to a unlimited number or CD writers (IDE and SCSI) at once time. It's
main
base is the cdrecord and cdda2wav program. The cdcontrol is the first
system such that type that I know for *nix world and it's all under
GPL license.

Some of it features are better than commercial systems that I've
hear about (and fully support CD images and all data type supported
by cdrecord program), one of these features is the separated control
of each recorder once the recording is started (avoiding problems
due a fail or speed problem in other writers).

Each of that children, take control of the errors messages and status
of each writter, reporting the status in the user level and tech
level (for repair or something like).

The inteliggent error checking mechanism is based in some time of
writers
repair that I gave, repairing most types of recorders (IDE and SCSI)
from
many manufactures. It take the appropriate decision if a error happens.

The cdcontrol itself has a daily production report for each writter and
fails of writting, in cases of more serious errors, a technical report
is
also written (it's content is a full cdrecord output for that writter,
plus
the time when it happens).

Added with the separated control of each writter, is included a
system to auto disable the writter in some consecutive internal
writter errors happen (no users errors are computed).

Other interesting feature is the automatic calculation of copies,
enabling only the writers requested to complete the number and
skipping all that are disabled.

The cdrecord program is developed to allow you to find it useful and
powerful to make you audio/data copy in one or more writers.

Gleydson Mazioli da Silva [EMAIL PROTECTED]
  ---
I'm already ready to upload the cdcontrol Debian package, if no one
objection
I will do that :-)

Greetings

Kernel-2.4.5

2001-06-17 Thread Francisco Maciel
HI people,
Good Sunday for All.

Thanks!.

Bom pessoal,

modconf me retornava erro... IRQ ou DMA, tentei resolver com insmod,
modprobe, isapnp... A lista me deu váias dicas importantes.

$ man adduser

No caso do som, o recomendável seria:

$ adduser debianuser audio

perimssões/grupos padrão do debian.

But I just can't get X server to work.

My monitior support 800x600 resolution in 8,16,or 24- Bit

It can do 640x480 but the screen is then small.

Can any suggest settings I can use?

Also how do I shut down Debian from the Command Line?

it seems you have to either compile the vesafb into the kernel

card boot time, and should 'just work'.

Or so I'm told -- I have a radeon, and it's not *that* simple :/

If you're seeing framebuffer console on the tv output, X via
fbdev should be a non brainer.

Re: Init not behaving the way man says it does?

2001-06-17 Thread Tom Gilbert
* Craig McLean ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) wrote:
Ok so the rc script explains why not all of the S/K entries get run on
 runlevel changes.

My next question: The init man page says all of the processes in the same
process group as init that aren't also in the next run level should get a
SIGTERM and a SIGKILL signal killing them. This doesn't seem to be
happening. cron and syslog are both in the same process group as init but
they aren't getting killed. As an experiment I removed the cron and syslog
entries from rc4.d and then trasferred to run level 4 from 2. Yet cron and
 syslog weren't killed.

Incidentally I don't think the removing of entries from the run level
directories should make a difference anyways because I know that init
doesn't actually have any knowledge of rc directories.

I do know that when I transfer between various user defined run levels the
signals aren't getting sent, but when I transfer between from a user defined
run level to a system runlevel the signals do get sent.

true -- init knows nothing of the /etc/rc?.d/ directories.

but init knows about /etc/inittab, which contains the line

l0:0:wait:/etc/init.d/rc 0
l1:1:wait:/etc/init.d/rc 1
l2:2:wait:/etc/init.d/rc 2
l3:3:wait:/etc/init.d/rc 3
l4:4:wait:/etc/init.d/rc 4
l5:5:wait:/etc/init.d/rc 5
l6:6:wait:/etc/init.d/rc 6
# Normally not reached, but fallthrough in case of emergency.
z6:6:respawn:/sbin/sulogin

which reveal that, on entry to, say, runlevel 3, the script
/etc/init.d/rc is run with a sole argument 3.

looking at the /etc/init.d/rc script, it uses its sole argument
to determine which /etc/rc?.d/ directory to look in; there, it
runs any K* scripts with an argument stop, and then any S*
scripts with an argument start.

if a K* script doesn't send any kill -HUP `pidof mydaemon` then
the process mydaemon, if running, will stay running. likewise,
if a S* script doesn't actually launch a daemon, then no daemon
is launched.

in february of 2000 (when the manpage for init was last tweaked,
from what i can tell) init may have operated they way it's
describe there. but the way it works on debian potato is that it
calls a script (/etc/init.d/rc) that calls scripts
(/etc/rc*.d/[KS]*) with certain arguments. they're spozed to be
the ones to do the job -- and this is a nice, new, modular
layout.

you've discovered the biggest achilles' heel of the *nix world:
the documentation was probably right at one point, but...
to determine that point, check the last-modified date and
keep exploring if you need to...

I have a 486 with 8MB RAM and I allocated 32MB swap. It runs fine
(basically just ipmasq at the moment), but I'm looking into making it
 a diskless (X)term instead.

Too much swap and...well, you've got too much swap. At some point you
just want to say uncle, and admit you're out of memory. I've run into
problems with Galeon processes growing to larger than physical memory.
Swapping makes the program run glacially. For your whole system to do
this would be a bad thing.

 | For IP filter and NAT, you won't need much swap. Running a Squid
proxy, | say, will benefit from more memory, which is bloody cheap at
the moment, | and still going down, though old-style strips may be
harder to find or | higher in price.

New memory (SDRAM) is rather cheap. I just saw a 256MB DIMM for $80
at a store. OTOH old memory (Fast Page Mode or EDO) is ~$80 for a
32MB SIMM, unfortunately. There is a local store that deals with used
parts that has some old Pentiums (some with 32MB RAM) for $100 (case,
 mobo, cpu, hd, NIC).

Thanks, that helps with a friend who'se putting together an old box from
odd parts. Currently has 32 MB, but should see more.

Hi,

In my job I now need to transfer data between application using XML.

As an absolute beginner in this field I'm asking you the very very

As far as I know having leafed through debian documentation XML as a

1) What deb packages should I install to build and view XML documents?

2) Where can I find documentation both on the packages themselves and,
above all, on XML?

Edit debian/changelog and add an additional entry to the top,
incrementing the version number by 0.0.1. The devscripts package
contains a utility called debchange (or dch) which will help you get the
format right. Then build and install the new package. When a real new
version comes out, you'll get that, but until then your local packages
will remain installed.

I put export CFLAGS='-O2 -march=i686' into my .bash_profile, but
the rules build seems to ignore it (hence me editing that script).

Yes, debian/rules routinely sets CFLAGS itself. Packages are supposed to
build the same way regardless of their environment.

(By the way, the easiest way to build a package is 'dpkg-buildpackage
-rfakeroot', or, again from the devscripts package, 'debuild'.)

 Your help is much appreciated.

 Scott.
Every information you need is in the README file and in the doc/
directory.

But to start you up:
You need to download the images from images-1.44 and write it do floppy's.
You can use the programs in the directory dosutils/.
The least you need are:
rescue.bin - boot with this floppy
root.bin- insert this floppy when asked: this is the installation
program

Then you can choose: you can download drivers# and base2_2# and write them
to floppys. This is the easiest method if you are a newbie to Linux.
Alternatively, you can download the two gzipped archives, but you must be
able to play with the installation program if you want to do this.
For example, if you are on a lan with connection to the internet you must
be able to configure your network card and download the stuff. If you burn
the files on a cdrom, you must know how to mount the cd.

After the first stage install, your computer reboots and starts Linux,
together with the secound stage install. During this install you can set
up a ppp connection to your ISP or use the lan to retreive the rest of
your Linux installation.

Hope this helps,

Windows-like crashes!

Hi,

I have been successfully using Debian Woody for about 8 months now and I
am proud to say that it's not my default boot. Recently I've been trying
to get XMPS working and after trying to watch a DivX with crappy quality,
I decided to upgrade to the NVidia drivers from their site. This went off
without a hitch and now I get the nice NVidia logo when starting
Enlightenment.

Last night, I decided to recompile my kernel without SMP support (I saw
that I had it compiled in and that it would run faster without it. After
running make xconfig, I ran make dep modules modules_install. This
resulted in an error at the SMP part of the compilation at which point I
realized that I have some screwed up kernel source 'cause this happens
every time I try to compile without SMP support.

Oh well, I said, and went to bed. Today I turned on my machine and the
X-Server wouldn't connect (text login vs. normal gdm). I thought this was
weird so I tryed `startx'. This also did not work and after a few hours
of messing around with different things, I recompiled my Nvidia drivers
and now have working gdm again.

HOWEVER, whenever I try to play an MP3 in XMMS or view a movie in XMPS,
the computer locks up completely! I mean, we're talking Windows-like
jamming (but without the mouse moving) without a Ctrl-Alt-Del response or
Ctrl-Alt-Backspace either. I have to hard reset my computer and then I
get the usual fsck stuff which says there were detached inodes (I
think ... or something like that) which get fixed (after entering the
root password) and then the cycle repeats itself.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Re: UDMA66 doesn't work

2001-06-17 Thread Aquila
You might want to enable the kernel options

CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDEDISK
CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDEPCI
CONFIG_IDEPCI_SHARE_IRQ
CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDEDMA_PCI
CONFIG_IDEDMA_PCI_AUTO
CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDEDMA

Then have a look at your motherboard manual to figure out which specific
IDE controller chipset you have, and enable special support for that.
There is support for most chipsets, and it usually auto detects UDMA
support if you have the right chipset support compiled. Make sure you
are using an 80w IDE cable as well, you need that for UDMA(66).

You might need the append=idebus=66 ide0=ata66 line in you lilo.conf
(assuming you use lilo and your hdd is on ide0) if it doesn't auto
detect.

Hope that helps.

You either install lilo on the debianpartition or loadlin on
the win95partition.
I recommend lilo.

Then you add to lilo.conf:

other=/dev/[partition you have windows on]
label=win

And then you can boot windows from your lilo.

Re: Windows-like crashes!

2001-06-17 Thread Amardeep Singh
hi

maybe it is due to nvidia drivers. they are notoriously buggy. there are
a lot of complains regarding it causing x-lockups, and they never worked
for me. for example, while running X, if i switch to console, and then
back to X, it causes a lockup. you may try switching back to nv driver
(provided by XFree86) instead of nvidia driver, and see if the problem
exists. if problem goes away by switching back to nv, start bugging
NVidia for buggy drivers.

Last night, I decided to recompile my kernel without SMP support (I saw

Oh well, I said, and went to bed. Today I turned on my machine and the

UDMA mode 4 or 5 it *should* already come with one (or more). it's got

deleting GPG UIDs

messed up, and now i have three UIDs associated with it:

uidMartin F. Krafft [EMAIL PROTECTED]
uidMartin F. Krafft (MaD dUCK) ...

the last one is unecessary and i would like to delete it...

i can easily do:

fishbowl:~ gpg --yes --edit-key A8FA196E uid 3 deluid save

sub 2048g/E93FAECE created: 2001-05-07 expires: never
(1) Martin F. Krafft [EMAIL PROTECTED]
(2). MaD dUCK [EMAIL PROTECTED]

and even upload that key with gpg --send-key, but the keyserver
seems to merge the key rather than to overwrite it. there is no option
to revoke a UID and i can't revoke the entire key.

how can i delete the UID on the keyserver's copy of the key such that
gpg --recv-keys doesn't restore the third UID?

No, the init manpage doesn't describe the Debian, Redhat or Suse

all. You have to combine that with
/usr/share/doc/sysvinit/README.runlevels.gz, which does describe
how the Debian /etc/rc?.d/ stuff works.

XMMS: root can / user can not listen Audio CDs

2001-06-17 Thread Thomas Martin
Hello,
just installed Debian/GNU Linux 2.2r2 and now installed
X, SAWMILL, TKMIXER and XMMS from the official CDs.

When I start X as root and start then XMMS I am able to
to listen to AudioCDs (also the tracks are not listed in
the PLAYLIST window).
When I do the same as user, I may start XMMS but
when I try to add the content of /cdrom within the +FILE Dialogue
(of PLAYLIST) I don't see files like TRACK... in the right part
of the window opened by +FILE as I see them when doing
the same as root.

The CDROM is mounted with the following properties in fstab:
/dev/cdrom /cdrom iso9660 defaults,noauto,user,ro 0 0

[Perhaps things went wrong because I had installed and deinstalled
(using dselect) GRIP before I installed XMMS and as I understood
to use GRIP one has to be root]

Thanks in advance!
Thomas

Having win98 installed, I did:

- repartition my harddisk to have both the c: partition and an ext2
partition for linux.
- installed linux with lilo as bootloader
- changed the file /etc/lilo.conf (there's a commented out part that allows
you to boot another system, like windows, you just have to know the linux
name for the partition it is on. For me that's /dev/hda1 (i.e. the first
(1) partition on the master harddisk on the first IDE controller (a), the
seconday master is called c)

- run lilo to activate the changes in the lilo.conf

I have attached my lilo.conf. It's configured to start windows
automatically after a 2 seconds timeout.

My harddisk (according to linux) has the following structure:

hda:

hda1 hda2 hda5 ... hda9 hda3 hda4

In my case the hda1-4 numbering is chronological (creation time), so is the
hda5-9.
hda1 is my primary windows partition
hda2 is an extended windows partition consisting of logical partitions 5-9.
hda3 is my linux ext2 partition
hda4 is the linux swap partition

Hope this helps.

André.

The cannot access /dev/dsp *could* possibly be caused by an application using
