Ayuda rápida con Apache
Buenas a todos/as. Have a nice day ;-) TooManySecrets

Maybe that's not for everyone, and I'm more of a visual learner (or something). Anyway, for ipchains, it looks like this: Diagram snipped It's a little burly for your purposes. All you're talking about is a packet filter, with no forwarding (and hence no masquerading, etc.) So let's take out what's unimportant and reduce it to this: Yeah, I had read through the IPChains Howto, and I think I got some of the fundamentals down. I tend to learn by example, so as a newbie, I had some trouble applying what was going on with the real world example given in the howto to my own needs. --- |ACCEPT/ lo interface | v REDIRECT | -- C -- S -- __ -- -- ___ -- h a|input |{Routing } |output |ACCEPT e n|Chain |{Decision} ---|Chain | c i|__| | |___| k t | | | | s y | | | | u | v v | v m | DENY/ Local Process | DENY/ | vREJECT | |REJECT | DENY - v DENY That's a bit more manageable, no? All you need to worry about are the input and output chains. I'm going to recommend a very simple ruleset for you; no need to mess around with all kinds of user-defined chains. You might want (after reading some more and getting the hang of what's going on here) to add some logging capabilities to the setup, but for now, let's just roll a simple script: Ah, yes. That was one of the problems I had. The example revolved around forwarding packets, which then quickly got out of hand for me when trying to figure out what I needed to do. I think I understood most of what was being discussed, and when I do get around to setting up a gateway machine for my home network (coming soon), I'll draw from it. I think I'll go back and re-read it and focus on what each was trying to be accomplished. (I've been (happily) immersed in the iptables world and haven't used ipchains in a while (and don't have a machine to test it on, either), so if it has a couple of syntactical glitches in it, please bear with me.) partition table woes
I screwed up my partition table today and, like an idiot, I don't have a record of it. Are there any tools I can use to determine where my partitions were? I have a 10GB IDE disk, hda. I had hda1 as /, hda2 as swap and hda3 as /home. The space was approximately evenly divided between / and /home and 256MB swap. Obviously / starts at sector 1. I determined, through trial-and-error, that / ends not before sector 748, but fsck doesn't complain if I make the partition too big. I don't think I have the size quite right because when I add 256MB to that and allocate /home I get errors about an invalid superblock. I can run debugfs on / and see all the data in that superblock. There must be some way (even looking at the raw bits on the disk) to determine where the partitions started prior to my screw up. It is (was) a woody system and I have potato CDs (ie rescue disk). Thanks for any pointers and suggestions. -D

1) You'll probably get more responses if you'll use a descriptive subject line and separate your various questions into separate posts. Usually. In this case, it probably makes more sense to do it the way you have done it. d wrote: snip re: Mandrake 7.0 Debian GNU/Linux v2.1 Windows SE 98 on the same box USR 56k INT MDM plus a PCTEL WinModem (that is NOT being used at this time), two 8.4 gig IDE H/D's. I can now access the WinBlows from Mandrake, have NOT set things so I can do that from Deb just yet. As root, mount /dev/hda1 /mnt/Win98 (see man mount for more info). This assumes Win98 is on the first partition of the first IDE drive (hda1), and that you have a directory named /mnt/Win98. Since Mandrake is already configured to see the Windows partition, you can boot into Mandrake and have a look-see in /etc/fstab; this will have a line something like: /dev/hda1 /Win98 vfatdefaults0 0 So in this case, once in Debian, you'd type mount /dev/hda1 /Win98 (you might need to specify the filesystem type, which in the above case is VFAT (FAT16/32)), so the command'd be mount -t vfat /dev/hda1 /Win98. You can automate this by duplicating the line in /etc/fstab on the Debian side. Then on the next reboot into Debian the Windows partition will automatically be mounted on the /Win98 directory (make sure you create this directory first if it doesn't exist). Or, without a reboot, you can manually type the mount command, or since it's now in /etc/fstab, you can shorten the command to mount /Win98, and the mount command will figure out the rest from the definition in fstab. The command mount by itself will show you what's mounted, and mount -a will attempt to mount everything defined in fstab. If you want to share files between Mandrake and Debian, pick a partition to share (such as /dev/hda5), and make sure each distro mounts that partition. For example, if /dev/hda3 is your /home directory in Mandrake, and /dev/hda5 is your /home in Debian, you can use just one, say /dev/hda3, as your /home in both distros. Just change /etc/fstab on the Debian side to mount /home on 3 instead of on 5. (CAVEAT: I vaguely remember that there may be some sort of issue with this type of sharing, but I can't recall what it might be; other list members can perhaps confirm or deny this vague recollection.) The other is how can I get both of them to acknowledge my USR MDM, neither one will recognize it and MD never has even from my first install? Of course the first question is Is it a win-modem? (Most internal PCI modems are.) If it is, you might find it easier (and perhaps the only route) to replace it with a non-win-modem. Externals are almost always okay (what about external USB modems? anyone know if they are real for sure?). If it's not a win-modem, you can use the program minicom to do some testing (try different serial ports, try ATZ and other commands for an OK response, try dialing out); you can't do ppp stuff with it (like using a web browser), but it can give you some valuable info. Also, if it's working in Windows, look at the properties there to see what serial port, IRQ, etc, that it's using, That can be good info. I know there are HOWTO's and many other MAN pages and various other thingys, I spend most of a day just attempting to keep up with these messages. THE END. This, of course, implies a learning curve, because implies learning to program in R. This, however, gives you more flexibility and power. Chronically broken package - bugs? In tetex-bin AND apt-get?
Hello- I'm sorry if I sound hysterical, but I have reasons for concern. In fact, I'm truly desperate: it has been over a three months that I try to tackle this problem whenever I have some time. I was never able to use TeX on my potato, because the package somehow got broken. And I mean *badly* broken. In dselect, it appear as *RI, which means that I should reinstall it. But **nothing works** Purging tetex-bin (and all it's dependencies, of course) results in nothing... apt-get remove tetex-bin - tells me that the package is in a very inconsistent state and you should consider reinstalling it before removing. But... apt-get install reinstall tetex-bin - no good and apt-get -f install tetex-bin tetex-doc tetex-lib tetex-base abd then apt-get -f install You get the same error, below siddhi:~# apt-get -f install Reading Package Lists... I personally like the AOpen MK-33. It's only an Athlon 1ghz max board, but AOpen has some boards that will sport an Athlon past 1200mhz easily. If you know how you sized your partitions, you can try plugging in the appropriate values, and saving the table. Since the partition table doesn't actually modify disk data, this won't scramble your data. Just change /etc/fstab on the Debian side to mount /home on 3 instead of on 5. (CAVEAT: I vaguely remember that there may be some sort of issue with this type of sharing, but I can't recall what it might be; other list members can perhaps confirm or deny this vague recollection.) You're right, there is one thing to look out for if you share your /home partition: both distro's must use the same numerical user-id. I seem to remember that Debian is the only distro to number them starting from 1000, and that all other distro's start from 500. If Mandrake indeed behaves this way, you're in a world of hurt, otherwise the only issue would be to keep application versions in sync, as they might not like newer config files (for example, the newest xemacs in Debian use a .xemacs directory, whereas older versions just do with a file). On Thu, Jul 26, 2001 at 09:41:42PM -0400, Michael P. Soulier wrote: So, I'm in dselect, and it says that icewm-common recommends icepref. Unfortunately, it's not just a recommendation, because it won't resolve the conflict without it selected for install. You can tell dselect not to bother with the recommeded packages, by pressing 'D' and then 'Q' in the dependency resolution screen. 'D' sets the package selections back to your direct selections. 'Q' commits the current selections without further depends checking. 'X' exits, disregarding any changes in selections. If you are confused at any place in dselect, you can always keep hitting 'X' until you are back at the main menu, and no changes will have been made effectively. 'Enter' will do what 'Q' does, but first it checks the dependencies and if there are any unresolved ones found, you are prompted with a new dependency resolution screen. This is also explained more clearly in the help screen that always pops up before the dependency resolution screen and that you can get back to at any moment by pressing the '?' and 'i' keys. Is this a dselect bug? In the sense that you are asking, no. You just need to press 'Q', not 'Enter'. It is a feature. In another sense, it is clumsy at least that this has to be done every time when there is an unresolved recommends: in the active package selections. There are some patches for this, but I don't believe they are in a dselect near you just yet (maybe soon in unstable). Cheers, Joost

Then I decided not to install the original package, but all the other packages it thought were dependent still try and install every time I run dselect even though the original package has been deselected. Oops, you should have pressed 'R' or 'X' instead of 'Enter'. Now you've committed all the selections you made with dselect's interactive package selections management screen. Is there a file somewhere that I can purge that has all the pending for install packages so I can just wipe it out and start fresh again? How about marking the relevant packages for removal or purge in the dselect package selections list? It sounds intuitive enough to me that if you can select packages in dselect, then you can also unselect them. Admittedly, you'll have to look them up in the list, but that is not so hard, and you can play with the 'o' and 'O' keys for sort options if you like. And if you press '?', there is help at any time. When you are finished altering the selections, simply run install. Generally, walking the installed packages list in dselect once in a while and removing packages you don't see a need for, is a good thing. If you happen to try to remove something unexpectedly important, and a large list of packages is marked for subsequent removal in the dependency resolution screen, you can simply undo the removal request and all of the consequences, by pressing 'R' and 'Enter' (or 'Q' or 'X'). Try it. This way, you quickly get to know what packages are on your system for what reason. Cheers, Joost
Re: balsa: orphaned?
Yes balsa is a great program and should not be orphaned and if nobody is interesting in packaging it, I would certainly ITP it soon. Certainly doesn't look like it's been abandoned. This page, http://www.balsa.net/main.html, shows an update on the 13th of this month. It reads: 2001-07-13 - development balsa 1.1.7 released. This is most likely last 1.1.x development release, we intend to start soon preparation for 1.2.0 release. Several improvements in IMAP folder handling has been done, new command line options have been added and other UI improvements have been implemented. Regards Hall
