KDE has the "disable touchpad when typing" feature (likely a kded5

Hello:

Should ETCD_TLS_MIN_VERSION and ETCD_CIPHER_SUITES be recognized as valid

I'd like to set...

ETCD_TLS_MIN_VERSION="TLS1.3" # or, maybe TLSv1.3 - with v like nginx?
ETCD_CIPHER_SUITES="TLS_AES_128_GCM_SHA256,TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384,TLS_CHACHA20_POLY1305_SHA256"

Tried adding ETCD_TLS_MIN_VERSION first but I'm getting an "unrecognized"

ETCD_KEY_FILE and other related TLS vars seem to match up OK.

touchpad buttons sometimes stop working for several seconds

2023-10-31 Thread Vincent Lefevre
Hi,

I have a new laptop. An issue I have is that the touchpad buttons
often stop working for several seconds (under X11).

This is visible even with evtest: when I click on any of the soft
buttons, I normally get an event like

Event: time 1698773368.142943, type 1 (EV_KEY), code 272 (BTN_LEFT), value 0

But when the problem occurs, I do not get such an event.

Any idea to fix this?

I parsed it as something like "I can't register an account that has the

I thought I made it clear. I've changed ISP's, several times over the

sends all correspondence reply's to an old address so I am not able to
confirm because I never get the confirmation message. But bugzilla

way for me to register is to have the admins nuke me out of the system

screwed.

I've requested pw resets, never got them, presumable because it sends
the reset link to a 20 yo address. If you know someone who has admin

Your configuration is a special case. You know how to get what

Of course not! Some host _on_your_subnet_ must be responsible for
forwarding the packages. And a route has to be set so your machine knows
where to send the packages beyond your local subnet to. That is the
gateway. It is just a shortcut to define the default route.

Hi all,

I rent a dedicated server where I installed an hypervisor and purchased
failover public IPv4 IPs routed to that server.

When configuring the Debian VMs to use those failover IPs, I have to

- set the address to /32: "ip addr add $IP/32 dev eth0"

- set the traffic to the gateway to go through the NIC: "ip route add $GW
dev eth0"

- set the default route to go via the gateway: "ip route add default via
$GW"

As I set the IP address to a /32, the gateway is not (never) in the subnet
of the VM.

When using the Debian installer, at the networking setup, the installer
refuses that setting: the gateway is not in the subnet of the set IP
address.

The workaround I use is either to

- finish the installation without network and then at reboot, setup the
network

- manually setup the network during installation in another console

But isn't there a way to make the Debian installer accept that the gateway
is not in the subnet of the set IP address?

No.

I presume that your server rental includes an address on an IPv4 or IPv6
network via DHCP or as a static assignment. That is how the
server reaches everything else, the default.

You can add more IPs to that interface. If your upstream network
sends traffic there, your machine can recognize it as
appropriate. How should responses go out?

If the IPs are v4 /32 each, the response cannot go out that way.
There is no "way" there. If your upstream network allows it,
your server can use the v4 /32 as the return address, while
sending out to the default router. But you must have an
interface which sits on the same network as the default router.

Here you find an example of ISP documentation describing the fact the IP
address is not in the same subnet as the gateway:

It is possible to define another specific direct connected route to
your router and use that with source addresses that are not on the
same subnet.
Although, the router also needs that route.

I don't believe that CPU slowing down due to no activity will be felt by

Of course not! Some host _on_your_subnet_ must be responsible for
forwarding the packages. And a route has to be set so your machine knows
where to send the packages beyond your local subnet to. That is the
gateway. It is just a shortcut to define the default route.

So the installer is right.

Which is why I specifically asked OP to show the output of those while
doing something where OP felt that the computer was slow, _and_
reiterated that exact point in my response which you quoted from.

Please at least actually read what you're replying to before resorting
to sarcasm and assuming that people have no clue what they are talking
about or making suggestions to check.

Although, that entry must be there and the via IP must be on the same
ethernet link.
When adding the address 10.0.0.45/24, 10.0.0.0/24 will show up in the
routing table as directly connected. A route 0.0.0.0/0 via 10.0.0.1 can
be used. If you configure 0.0.0.0/0 via 172.16.0.1, then it will not
know on which NIC that is.
That might be the reason for that failure, as that case is uncommon in
most networks.

sudo ip route add dev
sudo ip route add 0.0.0.0/0 via

should work fine.
net-tolls is not installed by default, so command "route" is not
available.

Can you check dmesg for any error messages?
What happens when you use "nmcli connection up --ask"
to bring the connection up?

Sierra EM7455

2023-10-31 Thread Paul Saris

Hi,

Since upgrading a month ago from bullseye to bookworm I am unable to
connect with my wwan card (ID 1199:9079 Sierra Wireless, Inc. EM7455)
installed in my main computer (a Thinkpad X260).

I am just getting in network manager a "preparing to connect" in
Finnish. I am running KDE as desktop.

Are there any fixes around? Or are the only options currently to
downgrade to bullseye or switch to another version of Linux? I would
hate that as I am a 20+ years user of Debian but this is a "show stopper".

I parsed it as something like "I can't register an account that has the
same name (in whatever sense matters to me) as the one I had before,
because that account already exists, and I can't recover that account,
because it's trying to recover via an E-mail address I no longer have
access to.".

The question of in what sense the account has the "same name" is
undetermined, but the existence of such an additional constraint is the
only way I can see to parse the given scenario so that it makes sense.

It is buffer size of the hard drive with shingled magnetic recording.
Otherwise random write performance would be disaster.

I'm guessing here, but perhaps selinux _is_ disabled but things are
still trying to use it and producing error messages. Have you tried
uninstalled the 'apparmour' package? I remember doing this in years
past when it first started getting installed and putting noise on boot
screen and in logs.
