X-Server desconfigura acentuação em modo texto (Lenny)

Olá a todos, Estou com um problema relativo à acentuação em modo texto num sistema rodando Lenny/Sid com xorg 7.2-5. Quando abandono o X e alterno para uma janela do shell (alt+f2 p.ex.) a acentuação deixa de funcionar corretamente. Cedilha vira pi, á vira beta etc. Se rodo
