I found out that I need to have the Sarge version of Debian. I
currently have the 7 CD set of Woody 3.0r2. I cant use a Internet
type install, so I was wondering if I can download the complete Sarge
version somewhere?? I couldn't find it at the debian website. Please

Hi,
I installed the security fix to Perl today
(http://packages.debian.org/stable/interpreters/perl). However, now
my neomail installation seems to fail me. The apache log states:
Can't access() script. Neomail is a web interface for e-mail that
checks a user login thru perl.
I've read about the
1) Use the netinstall CD and install the base system
2) Install all desired software.
3) Burn the entire CD to CD
4) Bootup from CD on another PC in Single mode
5) Mount HDD
6) Install Filesystem on HDD
7) Copy CD content onto HDD
8) Chroot into mount point
9) Install the bootloader onto the HDD
Do I need to install any hardware detection software in step (2) so
that it can detect all the new hardware in another PC when I bootup
via CD?
Basically, it is to 'remaster' a minimal debian system into a
'Knoppix-like' CD.

I have a new computer that has a Soyo Dragon motherboard, with Onboard
SATA/RAID: 2x Serial ATA, RAID 0/1, .. and a IBM 160 GB Hard

Sorry for the delay in response.
Yes, I tried that, as well as insmod tulip (no idea, figured it was
worth trying).
System detects eth0, which I fear is my disabled (in BIOS) onboard
ethernet and not my NIC card, which I ironically added when SuSE was
not able to use my onboard ethernet. Before
I wanted to download the unstable version of Debian, so I downloaded
jigdo. Then, in the initial prompt, I entered
ftp://ftp.fsn.hu/blahblah..., then jigdo asks me to enter a Debian
mirror. I've tried the italian ones, the french ones, but there are
most packages missing (something like 700 out of

apparently tulip is the thing I needed, I just had to find out what to

When installing the OS, how do you know what window manager to use???
I've bee told to install icewm, wms, twm, and I thing something
called debconf.
Better yet, does anyone know what window manager Debian recommends

Dos anyone know where or how in the kernal does the machine time gets
converted to local time? I'm most curious as to how DST gets
figured.
For example, the machine runs on UTC, but I can set my TZ=EST.
When I get my local time, it tells me if I'm in DST or not (the kernal

Okay, I installed Debain Woody, but there wasn't support for my NIC
card. I looked at the 3COM website and lo and behold, they don't have
a linux driver on there for my NIC card. Strangely enough, it worked
in SuSE 8.2.

ok thanks i actualy used apt-get before and installed kde and gnome
and they are definetly installed...now that i think about it i may
not have selected x server.
ill try what kent said altho i did these commands before
x -configure (it said x was unknown term or whatever)
and i was able to do
i always used
DesktopBackgroundImage=[whatever] or
DesktopBackgroundColor=[whatever]

alright i did apt-get install x-window-system
turns out i had unselected packagesand i did xfree86config
startxthe dreaded no screens found error
it says somthine like
