Re: X screen shifts right !!.
I have this behavior as well, with my compaq presario 1247 laptop, which uses a trident cyberblade/i7 vid card. I am very suspicious that this is an anomaly with the xf86 trident drivers, as I've had reports of similar behavior with other trident iN cards. I have also stfw thoroughly with no results. In my experience, the shift seems to happen during periods of high window change activity - minimizing, restoring, changing focus, etc. I've experienced this with enlightenment, which I currently use, as well as afterstep, windowmaker, flwm, epiwm, and probably others which escape my recollection; this leads me to believe it's not a wm-specific issue. This happens with a variety of pointing devices as well. I've been itching to go into the trident driver code and see if I could spot something, but I haven't found the time as yet. I will, however, try the SWCursor option. HTH, Levi -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? However from time to time (and I suspect it's xscreensaver related) I am unable to move the mouse cursor to the far left of the screen (about 5%), I can move it to the far right, in fact it goes off the edge of the visible area. Top to bottom is all fine. I have tried resetting olvwm from inside the system but the only certain way to cure the problem is to close X _AND_ reset the box. If you don't reset, the problem is still apparent when you reload olvwm. I have worked through the problem, simply by moving the mouse cursor to the right of what I want to select and clicking. If I am lucky and manage to catch the keyboard/mouse at the right time (I think this is when xscreensaver is just about to start a new sequence) then the cursor reverts back to its normal operation. The best way I can think of the problem is that the 'virtual' screen has been offset to the right of the physical screen by about 5%. Everything else remains the same, none of the applications move. Has anybody else seen this ? I've stfw and can't find anything. Unfortunately, the problem is not easily repeatable. yes! i got a message from a fellow at xfree86. it reads as follows: Hi, I think that I have same problem. My chipset is recognized like CyberBlade/i1 and I use trident driver. From time to time left margin of the screen (about 1,5 cm wide) becomes inaccessible for mouse pointer. This means that when I want to click button I have to point my mouse to the right of the button (about 1,5 cm). Only solution for this was to reboot as you said. I think problem is in driver. I have found new driver for trident chipset on xfree86 site: http://www.xfree86.org/~alanh/. I use it with my Xfree86 4.2.1 and for now I have not experienced problem again. Have a try and please write about your experience. i have been using this new driver for awhile now and havent had the problem it, the only problem is when i update my packages and it gets written over by the xserver (or whatever) package. hope this helps. -matt -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Sounds like it's the monitor being too clever for it's own good. Some monitors store positional settings per refresh rate. It might be doing this and getting stuck between modes. Try shifting the refresh higher or lower and see if it makes a difference. Best of luck! Try shifting the refresh higher or lower and see if it makes a difference. No, this isn't the case. Monitors have no idea where the cursor is. They display the whole screen image. It's impossible for the monitor to cause a relative shift of the cursor to the windows/background. Eric -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble?
