Bug#1067413: RFP: keydb -- persistent key-value database with network interface

Thanks for including me here. I had not yet looked into potential
Redis replacements nor the exact and precise details of the new
license etc. and this activity around KeyDB feels like a good start.
I thought I'd let the dust settle for a bit before making any
decisions — perhaps the change even gets reversed (!), and no doubt
there might be new alternatives that will fork the code immediately
prior to the license change.

My personal and professional usage of Redis has dropped off in the
past few years, so it would make more sense for me to help out in a
team maintainership role, at least with respect to KeyDB.

However, I'd be interested in coordinating around some kind of
Redis→KeyDB/something transition if need be.

(Incidentally, why did your work switch to KeyDB?)

  Our naming protocol differs from its predecessors in that it has no

I've pushed some initial packaging here which would be more than happy

Bug#926470: RFP: annocheck -- analyse an application's compilation

2019-04-05 Thread Chris Lamb
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: la...@debian.org
X-Debbugs-CC: debian-de...@lists.debian.org

* Package name: annocheck
* URL : https://sourceware.org/git/?p=annobin.git
* License : GPL3
  Programming Lang: C
  Description : Analyse an application's compilation

>From annocheck(1)

The annocheck program can analyse programs and report information
about them. It is designed to be modular, with a set of self-
contained tools providing the checking functionality. Currently the
following tools are implemented:

The annocheck program is able to scan inside rpm files and libraries.
It will automatically recurse into any directories that are specified
on the command line. In addition annocheck knows how to find debug
information held in separate debug files, and it will search for these
whenever it needs the resources that they contain.

New tools can be added to the annocheck framework by creating a new
source file and including it in the Makefile used to build annocheck.
The modular nature of annocheck means that nothing else needs to be
updated.

New tools must fill out a "struct checker" structure (defined in
annocheck.h) and they must define a constructor function that calls
"annocheck_add_checker" to register their presence at program start-up.

The annocheck program supports some generic command line options that
are used regardless of which tools are enabled.

Indeed, and that's why I spent a few hours on this.

Summary, it's not that easy.

Here are my findings so other people have to go throught this again: The
pre-compiled .xpi contains a bundles/ subdirectory which is essential
for cookie-autodelete to work.

These files are missing in the sources, and if I understand correctly,
they are gathered when building using npm - while in the Debian
ecosystem they should rather be shipped by other packages. One of them
might be node-react which hasn't reached testing yet and I'm not sure
whether it will in time for buster freeze.

Minor issue: dh_webext installs the files in an "extensions/"
subdirectory where firefox will not find the extensions. Might require
some tweaking but is not a blocker.

So I'll give up on this for the moment. If anybody else feels
comfortable to continue, go ahead.

Christoph

Hi Mike et al.,

Just reviewing this in NEW and was briefly uneasy about a package with
this name entering the package namespace. For example, given:

  $ apt-get source src

… and that there are also many places in Debian where we would be
using nomenclature such as:

src:src

… to refer to this package, this is obviously somewhat confusing out
of context. There would also be binary packages that would be called
"src" (!) which, less problematically, would exist alongside packages
such as "linux-source" and "uwsgi-src" etc.

Is there a prefix, suffix or even an alternative name that upstream
use to avoid this? If not, we may have to invent one here. Thoughts
welcome.

think we should merge #903163 into this bug (or otherwise close it) and
further rename #888916 to "Please support using OpenPGP cards to unlock

That way we don't risk splitting the conversation any further and risk

Bug#903163: Adding OpenPGP smartcard support to LUKS

2018-07-23 Thread Chris Lamb
Hi Jonas et al.,

> I don't think that adding a new binary package for OpenPGP smartcard
> support is a good idea and would oppose to it

Might smartcard support require some smartcard-specific packaged
dependencies that would
be solved somewhat elegantly by having a separate binary package?

(Just to clarify, do you mean a new binary package as part of
src:cryptsetup or a new binary package as part of some other
hypothetical source package?)

Of course and I totally agree with this and your following paragraphs.

So, whilst I will be at DebCamp too (yay) I unfortunately won't have
any hardware to test with and for various reasons I should keep
commitments low at this point.

(Can we get something into shape on a branch for Kyle to test, or are
the bug references you cite above enough?)

Bug#903163: Adding OpenPGP smartcard support to LUKS

2018-07-16 Thread Chris Lamb
Dear Guilhem,

> Back to https://github.com/eriknellessen/gpg-encrypted-root, I see the
> hook is copying private key material to the initramfs, but […]

My gut tells me we should incoropate OpenPGP support directly into
Debian's src:cryptsetup simply based on ensuring its on-going
maintainability, etc. Especially important given that, for example,
an API change or other breakage might result in an unbootable system.

Does that work for you in principle Guilhem? I'm assuming we can
"just" merge in the aforementioned package (!) and fix up some of the
issues, including the umask one you already outlined.

What would be the next steps here? :)

  Description : C++11 library for handling processes (runtime libraries)

process-cpp is a simple and straightforward wrapper around process creation
and control. It helps both with handling child processes and with interacting
with the current process. Some of its features include:

- Thread-safe get/set/unset operation on the current process's environment.
- Throwing and non-throwing overloads of functions when system calls are
involved.
- Seamless redirection of input, output and error streams of child processes.
- Type-safe interaction with the virtual proc filesystem, both for reading &

Neat; looking forward to trying this!

My only comment is that you are probably selling it short by calling
it "Debian package updater" - my immediate thought that this was "user"

Ahh, I somehow read this as "block loading modules at _install_ time" ie.
installing "redis-redisearch" would load them automatically (or ensure
they were loaded on Redis restart.

Sorry for the confusion and thank you for clarifying. :)

I agree. Having "modules" in there is kinda ugly anyway!

Bug#879203: RFP: redisearch -- search engine on top of Redis

2017-10-23 Thread Chris Lamb
Hi Piotr,

Am happy to package this, and probably makes sense as the Redis
maintainer anyway.

> I chose redis-modulename as binary package name

So, "redis-redisearch". The only problem is that this *somewhat* collides with
other packages in this namespace, such as redis-sentinel and redis-tools (which
are not modules). So, one alternative might be "redis-module-redisearch" or
"redis-modules-redisearch" but I find them to be a little too ugly.

> /usr/lib/redis/ but maybe /usr/lib/redis/modules/ is a better idea.

/usr/lib/redis/modules/ wfm. (We don't need to gnu-triplet-these for
multiarch do we?)

> so support for /etc/redis/conf.d/ or autoloading modules from given dir

Hm, do we even *want* autoloading modules? I'm not 100% sure we do. I guess
it does not block the packaging anyway...

Bug#867322: ITP: python-daiquiri -- Python library to easily setup basic logging functionality

  Upstream Author : Julien Danjou <jul...@danjou.info>
* URL : http://github.com/jd/daiquiri
* License : Apache-2.0
  Programming Lang: Python
  Description : Python library to easily setup basic logging functionality

The daiquiri library provides an easy way to configure logging. It also
provides some custom formatters and handlers.

It's promise is to setup a complete standard Python logging system with just
one function call. Nothing more, nothing less. The interesting features are:

* Logs to stderr by default.
* Use colors if logging to a terminal.
* Support file logging.
* Use program name as the name of the logging file so providing just a
  directory for logging will work.
* Support syslog.
* Support journald.
* JSON output support.
* Support of arbitrary key/value context information providing.
* Capture the warnings emitted by the warnings module.
* Native logging of any exception.

(As an somewhat social experiment, I plan to only package the Python 3
version of this package until requested by users.)

bfs is a variant of the UNIX `find` command that operates breadth-first rather

It tries to be easier to use than `find`, while remaining compatible with
find(1). For example, bfs is less picky about where you put its arguments.
bfs also adds some extra options that make some common tasks easier.

When bfs detects that its output is a terminal, it automatically colors its
output with the same colors ls uses.

   Fabric is designed to upload files and run shell commands on a number of
   servers in parallel or serially. These commands are grouped in tasks
  (which are regular Python functions) and specified in a 'fabfile.'
   .
   It is similar to Capistrano, except it's implemented in Python and doesn't
   expect you to be deploying Rails applications.

Bug#738298: O: pdfrw -- PDF file manipulation library

2014-02-08 Thread Chris Lamb
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal
X-Debbugs-CC: debian-de...@lists.debian.org

I am orphaning this package so that it can be more actively maintained.
Full Git maintenance history is available - see the Vcs-Git headers in
debian/control.

  Source: pdfrw
  Section: python
  Priority: optional
  Maintainer: Debian QA Group packa...@qa.debian.org
  Build-Depends: debhelper (= 7.0.50~)
  Build-Depends-Indep: python-support, python-setuptools
  Standards-Version: 3.9.2
  Homepage: http://code.google.com/p/pdfrw/
  Vcs-Git: git://github.com/lamby/pkg-pdfrw.git
  Vcs-Browser: https://github.com/lamby/pkg-pdfrw

  Package: python-pdfrw
  Architecture: all
  Depends: ${misc:Depends}, ${python:Depends}, python-reportlab
  Replaces: pdfrw
  Provides: pdfrw
  Conflicts: pdfrw
  Description: PDF file manipulation library
   pdfrw can read and write PDF files, and can also be used to read in PDFs
  which can then be used inside reportlab.
   .
   pdfrw tries to be agnostic about the contents of PDF files, and support
  them as containers, but to do useful work, something a little higher-level
  is required. It supports the following:
   .
* PDF pages. pdfrw knows enough to find the pages in PDF files you read
  in, and to write a set of pages back out to a new PDF file.
* Form XObjects. pdfrw can take any page or rectangle on a page, and
  convert it to a Form XObject, suitable for use inside another PDF file
* reportlab objects. pdfrw can recursively create a set of reportlab
  objects from its internal object format. This allows, for example, Form
  XObjects to be used inside reportlab.
