I don't think it will change anytime soon.
That's not what I meant. I just wanted to point out that the icon doesn't
neccessarily have to look like the Libreoffice logo.
To show what I mean I've done some quick drafts for all the new file
icons.
Why does the sheet have to have a Libreoffice logo outline?
IMO that's unneccessarliy complex. A rectangle would do the same job and
that'd fit the minimalistic style better.
Also, I think using the logo of an app inside the app is redundant since it
already appears in panels, docks etc.

regarding tools and formats, i think inkscape + svg is the best solution

I want to talk about making a new icon set, if people here are up

while we are talking about money: how much money would we need to get the
new UI done in, let's say, 2 years?
i think there are are many people out there who would donate a lot of money
if they knew they'd get a new UI anytime soon. we could, for example, start
a kickstarter campaign and
contributions.
the only thing i'd add is a link to this page from the get started page
(if there is one) or from the design kick off page.

I like the way you reused the triangle for the A - and the rest of the
line fits very well with the triangle due to the special font you used.
Together with the large triangle at the upper right and the tight
connection among the lines of text it provides an impression of compact
power
