Good catch indeed. Ubuntu's D-Bus policy file was not the same as
upstream's, and was obviously too restrictive. In Karmic, the upstream
version is used, and it allows anybody to talk to the dispatcher.

I installed a minimal ubuntu, using debootstrap, and I have neither
'admin' group nor sudo. I created a real password for 'root', and
everything works perfectly. I don't see why you want to resist
creating this security check: if you already have 'admin' group, it
will do nothing, while on
arky - the latest version isn't 2.27.5-0ubuntu1, we're on
2.27.91-0ubuntu1.

I've just fixed this problem upstream by checking that an UID free

I just discovered the problem in Ubuntu Jaunty running Root Terminal,
something I rarely do. I installed the jaunty-proposed package as

The number of files being moved counts down, so if you look at a
slightly odd time, you might see less files than you'd expect
(especially if the files are of vastly different sizes; e.g. if you move
a 1GB file and a couple of 10k files, you might simply see Moving 1
file, as the other two files
