Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: gdm
Immediate effect of toggling Include all users in Users tab of
gdmsetup is REVERSED in the Security tab.
Maybe the Apply changes button could be used for this behaviour as
part of the correction.

Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: gdm
In gdmsetup, if a user is entered in the Security tab's options, there is no
error message if gdmsetup rejects (and does not save) the selection --- for
instance, if the user does not exist or has uidminuid.
Users ought to receive an error message
Okay. I've just updated. I have GDM 2.4.2.102 .
There's no difference:
- Note that the users list selection still works fine, ie the settings
are remembered. The only problem is that they are not reflected
perfectly in the drop-down boxes under the Security tab. In
particular, it appears that
being missed, it
might just be my user, cpbl. The only thing odd about me is that my uid is
1000. It is 500uid1000, as used to be the default on many unices. Could
this be a problem?
I am not listed in the exclude users list.

Login Window Preferences fails to store Enable Automatic Login
Thanks.
That helps. I can now auto-login.
I still think there are problems with the UI which make it confusing, at least:
- There is a blank option in the users list
- When the entry given for auto-login user is rejected / not saved,
there is no error message. Just not working / ignoring input
Are your passwords identical to your usernames?
I've a Pentium4 with Dapper. Clicking on the name briefly displays the
*username* before giving an empty password box. I can't reproduce anything like
the viewing of number of bullets though.

Login screen briefly reveals the user's password
Hi. For simplicity, only the user cpbl in included.
Immediately after typing in cpbl for the auto-login and closing the login
window preferences dialog,
the contents of /etc/gdm/gdm.conf-custom are as below.
(Note: a related problem is that there is only one entry in the drop-down list
of users
