[Bug 250067] Re: Power Manager Brightness Applet is not dimming the backlight
I have the same problem, but I don't think you expanded on it much. Because of the power manager for gnome isn't loading on startup, it causes a awkward delay in logging off or shutting down. However, if you goto change the settings for the power manager, it loads up and does it's job. I have had the battery on my laptop die without warning because the power manager ALSO controls that too. -- Power Manager Brightness Applet is not dimming the backlight https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/250067 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 159996] Re: Appearance Preferences offer Visual Effects without installed Compiz
This is what I call 'cracked by angels' ;))) In fact I realise this is a VERY ANNOYING bug, special to women (My wife included). They all would like to see the compyz going on with their portable x86, but I realize that theres a lot of portable computers with no 3D acceleration!!! In fact 50% of the portable computers hasnt got 3D, They all have Intel Video Cards, very very closed to the S3 virgen somewhat. But YES - my wife loves Ubuntu and dosnt like XP nomore. Im also was a fEDORA fanatic, but... well when I can have a running system 20% faster than fedora with no repositories bugs, ultra packages updates, etc... - I had to change. I can prove this with Audacity benchmark. My OS number 1 is Workbench 3.1 - That one with a simple basic arexx script could hide easaly that bug. Because It's an ugly bug. Women hate to see that they click and dosnt work. I think begginer users general. I think myself if I didnt have a geforce 5200... I dont like arexx... but I bet Amiga Commodore wouldnt have that bug anyway :) So let talks about put that patch as an update for gnome settings... Even greater was that to Ubuntu recognize by glance - no 3d ready card??? -> no compiz effect -> disable 3d effects. Like a good Oporto wine ;) Greetz from Portugal! Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager Since I installed Intrepid Alpha 6 on my Dell Latitude D510 (i915 chipset) I've had issues with the GPM icon in the tray. It seems that when a power-related event happens, (Unplug/plug AC power, and at login,) the tray icon locks up for approx 1 minute, 22 seconds. Clicking has no response, no tooltip window shows when hovered over. Brightness controls operate, but the OSD for brightness does not display. After the requisite 1 minute, 22 seconds, the brightness OSD suddenly shows up if brightness has been adjusted during the hung period, and the icon then shows the correct status. I've checked HAL with lshal -m, and the events are instantaneous there; the screen brightness toggle when plugging/unplugging mains works properly as well. I'm not sure what is being queried here, but it seems to be hanging on some sort of action; it only happens on AC plug/unplug, not on battery remove/insert. [Bug 187540] Re: Gnome-panel freeze when 8 windows are open when the panel is vertical
@bmhm I did that as well and was able to compile the code. However, I guess I'm not sure how to apply it? I've never done anything like this before and I'm not sure if there's another step after the "sudo dpkg -i *.deb" command? I ran that and it seemed to complete, but then no changes after reboot. [Bug 249373] Re: gnome session does not start window manager nor restores the previous session
Sebatien, Would you be kind enough to point us to the mailing list or WIKI that discusses these upstream issues? Per the August 8th changelog entry within the gnome-session source indicates this was fixed. Traffic on the desktop-devel-list is somewhat sparse after the initial proposal to revamp gnome-session to dbus instead of xsmp. Traffic to gnome-list concerning the problem seems to be 2.22 oriented. Nothing is mentioned in the Gnome 2.24 showstopper review. A quick review of the desktop files generated for gnome-terminal indicate that gnome-terminal does not currently have AutostartCondition nor X-GNOME-Autostart-*. Reading through the proposal thread http://mail.gnome.org/archives/desktop-devel-list/2008-June/msg00210.html indicates that xsmp was completely dropped in favor of the new session protocol with no concern over legacy apps, including core gnome apps such as gnome-terminal This is not "known upstream issues." This is "This will never work for legacy applications." A warning of some sort in /usr/share/doc/gnome-session directing annoyed users to the guilty parties would have been appreciated. -- gnome session does not start window manager nor restores the previous session https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/249373 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
