[Bug 250067] Re: Power Manager Brightness Applet is not dimming the backlight

2008-09-24 Thread Zachs Kappler
I have the same problem, but I don't think you expanded on it much.
Because of the power manager for gnome isn't loading on startup, it
causes a awkward delay in logging off or shutting down. However, if you
goto change the settings for the power manager, it loads up and does
it's job. I have had the battery on my laptop die without warning
because the power manager ALSO controls that too.

Hello i checked it against i386 now, sound-juicer reports the missing
album. When pressing the report button, a firefox open up the
musicbrainz login page. This did not happen on amd64, where the
described error occurs. The 2.22.0 on i386 seems to be clean.

Musicbrainz album insertion then is a mess, they dont really want new
albums but this is not an ubuntu bug.

[Bug 268497] Re: DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.InvalidArgs: Mountpoint Already registered

2008-09-24 Thread Jeffrey Baker
Confirmed on Intrepid with nautilus 1:2.23.92-0ubuntu1 and gvfs
0.99.8-0ubuntu1. To reproduce, mount any network file system (ssh for
instance) then drag a folder from that filesystem into nautilus'
sidebar. Eject the network filesystem, then double click on your
bookmark in the sidebar. You will see the following error message:

Error: DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.InvalidArgs: Mountpoint Already

both using Windows XP home/pro. I try brows the lan trough nautilus and
the icon "network" then I get my computers in the list and dubbelclick
one of them and try to access my shares. But then I get the error like
above ( DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.InvalidArgs: Mountpoint

I'm using ubuntu 64bits 8.10 I didn't had this problem with 8.04. Though
I couldn't get the network list trough nautilus->network. I had to
manually type in the smb://search

I've tried run: /usr/lib/gvfs/gvfsd -r but it didn't return anything...

Sounds almost like a Xulrunner 1.9.??? problem but other things are
happening - using Xulrunner 1.9.0.1. I do not have Keytouch installed.

All KDE stuff works just fine

Using 3.5.10 - current files

p.s. I tried to load Kubuntu 8.04.1 with gnome apps on another computer.
It took me more than 5 installs to get everything working. The failures
included Xulrunner, Network Manager, and KeyTouch. This is the most
troublesome install of Kubuntu that I have ever run into. This install

[Bug 159996] Re: Appearance Preferences offer Visual Effects without installed Compiz

2008-09-24 Thread cybernoid
This is what I call 'cracked by angels' ;)))

In fact I realise this is a VERY ANNOYING bug, special
to women (My wife included). They all would like to see the compyz going on
with their portable x86,
but I realize that theres a lot of portable computers with no 3D acceleration!!!
In fact 50% of the portable computers hasnt got 3D, They all have Intel Video
Cards, very very
closed to the S3 virgen somewhat.

But YES - my wife loves Ubuntu and dosnt like XP nomore.

Im also was a fEDORA fanatic, but... well when I can have a running system 20%
faster than fedora
with no repositories bugs, ultra packages updates, etc... - I had to change.
I can prove this with Audacity benchmark.

My OS number 1 is Workbench 3.1 - That one with a simple basic arexx script
could hide easaly that bug.
Because It's an ugly bug. Women hate to see that they click and dosnt work. I
think begginer users general.
I think myself if I didnt have a geforce 5200...

I dont like arexx... but I bet Amiga Commodore wouldnt have that bug
anyway :)

So let talks about put that patch as an update for gnome settings...
Even greater was that to Ubuntu recognize by glance - no 3d ready card??? -> no
compiz effect -> disable 3d effects. Like a good Oporto wine ;)

[Bug 274197] [NEW] GPM Icon locks on AC Status change

2008-09-24 Thread Chorca
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

Since I installed Intrepid Alpha 6 on my Dell Latitude D510 (i915 chipset) I've
had issues with the GPM icon in the tray. It seems that when a power-related
event happens, (Unplug/plug AC power, and at login,) the tray icon locks up for
approx 1 minute, 22 seconds. Clicking has no response, no tooltip window shows
when hovered over. Brightness controls operate, but the OSD for brightness does
not display.
After the requisite 1 minute, 22 seconds, the brightness OSD suddenly shows up
if brightness has been adjusted during the hung period, and the icon then shows
the correct status. I've checked HAL with lshal -m, and the events are
instantaneous there; the screen brightness toggle when plugging/unplugging
mains works properly as well.

I'm not sure what is being queried here, but it seems to be hanging on
some sort of action; it only happens on AC plug/unplug, not on battery
remove/insert.

Using 2.6.27-4-generic kernel.

[Bug 41871] Re: volume slider should not use PCM but software mixer or master volume

2008-09-24 Thread Jarno Suni
I remember I could change gxine's mixer device to be software mixer, but
I don't remember what alsa_mixer_name I used anymore. I remember I got
some hint from xmms's settings dialog, but I can't install it anymore in
Ubuntu 8.04 to refresh my memory. I think software mixer would be great,
as by that you can set relative volumes of different sound sources
individually and software mixer has effect in all sound card outputs so
changing software mixer setting keeps their relative volume same.

[Bug 274146] Re: Has not yet replaced the existing log out applet

2008-09-24 Thread Sebastien Bacher
the issue is tricky since the gnome-panel layout is user configuration,
we could deprecate the hardy user switching applet and change the

people who changed their layout to not have a session applet but the
user switching for example

[Bug 272841] Re: Login Screen times out Feisty Fawn

2008-09-24 Thread brad
I meant doing nothing other than turning the computer on and walking away while
it goes through it's boot cycle. (about 1.5min on my thinkpad and p4 desktop ),
then coming back to it after 5 or more minutes have elapsed, (this probably has
something to do with the default screensaver function). Because it only happens
if I wait long enough for the LCD to go to sleep.
Again, like I said, it's not really a problem, it's just not all that
flattering to the OS.

[Bug 274146] [NEW] Has not yet replaced the existing log out applet

2008-09-24 Thread Scott James Remnant
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: fast-user-switch-applet

The intrepid fast-user-switch applet combines the functionality of
itself and the old log out applet.

On upgrades, it should move to the right-hand-side replacing the log out
applet.

On new installations, it should only appear on the right-hand-side.

Re: [Bug 272841] Re: Login Screen times out Feisty Fawn

2008-09-24 Thread brad
Hello -- I meant that I do nothing at all. Sometimes I'll hit the
start button on my computer(s), then do something else while it goes
through the boot cycle. If I leave it for too long, (probably the
default screen-sleep/suspend/hibernate setting 5-10min), then come back
to it, wake up the screen by moving the mouse or entering a space on the
space-bar, and enter my user-name, I get the results described in my
report.
It's not really a problem. It's just not very flattering to the OS.
Thanks.

not sure if I should still submit this - but seeing as it happened when

find. The updater completed it's checks and found nothing before I
reported this.

[Bug 187540] Re: Gnome-panel freeze when 8 windows are open when the panel is vertical

2008-09-24 Thread prl77
@bmhm
I did that as well and was able to compile the code. However, I guess I'm not
sure how to apply it? I've never done anything like this before and I'm not
sure if there's another step after the "sudo dpkg -i *.deb" command? I ran
that and it seemed to complete, but then no changes after reboot. How do I
apply the changes or verify that the patches are in effect?

[Bug 249373] Re: gnome session does not start window manager nor restores the previous session

2008-09-24 Thread pakraticus
Sebatien,
Would you be kind enough to point us to the mailing list or WIKI that discusses
these upstream issues?

Per the August 8th changelog entry within the gnome-session source indicates
this was fixed.
Traffic on the desktop-devel-list is somewhat sparse after the initial proposal
to revamp gnome-session to dbus instead of xsmp. Traffic to gnome-list
concerning the problem seems to be 2.22 oriented.
Nothing is mentioned in the Gnome 2.24 showstopper review.

A quick review of the desktop files generated for gnome-terminal
indicate that gnome-terminal does not currently have AutostartCondition
nor X-GNOME-Autostart-*.

Reading through the proposal thread
http://mail.gnome.org/archives/desktop-devel-list/2008-June/msg00210.html
indicates that xsmp was completely dropped in favor of the new session protocol
with no concern over legacy apps, including core gnome apps such as
gnome-terminal
This is not "known upstream issues." This is "This will never work for legacy
applications." A warning of some sort in /usr/share/doc/gnome-session
directing annoyed users to the guilty parties would have been appreciated.

[Bug 273922] Re: gnome-appearance-properties crashed with SIGSEGV in gconf_peditor_new_tree_view()

2008-09-24 Thread Aethralis
As of today - all updates applied - I got the same error [gnome-
appearance-properties crashed with SIGSEGV in
gconf_peditor_new_tree_view()]. I think the bug should be reopened.

[Bug 71593] Re: glChess has no 3D

2008-09-24 Thread David Bensimon
Sebastien, has this bug been fixed upstream by gnome, will the fixed
version be included in the Intrepid Release? I am currently testing this
and it still seems to still be an issue in Hardy. The workaround
provided (install python-opengl python-gtkglext1) give me 3D chess
pieces until I make a move, then only the background color is displayed.
(see attached screenshots)
