[Bug 300037] [NEW] black screen on login page (AMILO L6820)

2008-11-23 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Hi,

When I boot Ubuntu 8.4 I get black login screen. I can hear the Ubuntu
start music but screen remains black. If I type my username and password
I can hear that the login is completed and desk top should be present
behind the black screen.

I tried using vesa drivers. But this does not help and the symptoms
remain similar.

If I press alt+F1 I get to normal terminal login screen. And the funny
part is that sometimes when I press alt+F7 I get to the normal login
screen or desktop if I entered my credentials.

Similarly weird behavior is that if I fall back into recovery mode and
select continue loading I sometimes (1 out of 4) get directly into
working login screen without the need to go into terminal screen.

I am writing this bug using one of the above workarounds.

I think that this is related to some initialization and in what order
xserver wakes up the screen.

[Bug 301440] [NEW] Robots leaves ghosted images with desktop effects

2008-11-23 Thread Scott Ritchie
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-games

On Intrepid, Robots appears to be completely broken. Simply moving my
player around seems to copy him as though the drawing isn't being
updated properly; similar things happen to the robots.

To reproduce, it helps to hold the movement key down a little bit.

[Bug 301458] Re: Rhythmbox bug make gdm restarting !!!

2008-11-23 Thread Chris Coulson
Thank you for your bug report. This is unlikely to be a Rhythmbox or GDM
issue, so I'm assigning to Xorg for now. Could you please recreate the
crash and then attach your /etc/X11/xorg.conf, /var/log/Xorg.0.log and
/var/log/Xorg.0.log.old files to this bug report. Could you also please
attach the output of sudo lspci -vvnn (please don't post inline).

Could you also please attempt to obtain a backtrace of the crash as
detailed at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Backtracing.

Thanks

[Bug 259385] Re: Intrepid Compiz hangs on login for i830MG, i845, and i945GM video cards

2008-11-23 Thread jerrylamos
Compiz Intel setup work fine on Hardy.

Compiz changed. No longer works on many pc's as indicated in the Bug.

It's Compiz's fault, since Compiz changed, and it's Compiz's
responsibility to fix it. Example use a codepath that works.

This is not a bug in gnome-terminal. The problem you experience is
because the gzip'd file will contain some bit patterns which look like
control characters, which alter the mode of the terminal emulator (as
they are supposed to), so I'm closing this bug as invalid

[Bug 259385] Re: Intrepid Compiz hangs on login for i830MG, i845, and i945GM video cards

2008-11-23 Thread glennric
jerrylamos, why do you keep insisting that this is a compiz issue when
all evidence points to the intel driver. It is silly to start dropping
words like codepath that you don't understand to argue your point. It
is not that compiz uses codepaths that don't work, it is that compiz
uses driver paths that are not working properly. The driver paths are
the problem.

It is the responsibility of the driver to make the paths to the hardware
properly available. The fact that these paths are not working is a
problem in the driver not compiz. There are other software applications
that use these paths, although not very many at this point. For example
the Avant Window Navigator developers are undergoing a rewrite to see if
they can start using them. These paths make it possible to achieve
accelerated graphics without the overhead of cpu use by accessing the
video cards hardware directly.

Now enough with the talk about compiz being at fault.

that was a problem with our LDAP as well. in other words, i can't
confirm evolution is working accessing an LDAP server using SSL/TLS

claimed varous things, like no TLS, which I wasn't using. I was using SSL It

I have tried on the live 32 bit CD and my currently installed 64 bit

2008-11-23 Thread Sid
I get this same error on Intrepid every time I log into Gnome (with no
other input from me).

This was after a fresh install of Intrepid on my system. I did, however,
copy over my home directory from my old Hardy system... so all of my
local settings are from my Hardy install. Another change I made was to
/etc/fstab -- I added an additional mount (an ext3 filesystem). So, this
is possibly the same bug.

I've attached my .xsession-errors.

[Bug 299732] [NEW] Firefox Evolution interaction - Display scrambled

2008-11-23 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

System
Dell Inspiron 1720, 3 GB, Core2 Duo CPU T5550 @ 1.83GHz
NVIDIA graphics card and 1920x1200 display
NVIDIA Driver Version 177.80

Ubuntu Release 8.10
Kernel Linux 2.6.27-7-generic
GNOME 2.24.1

Evolution 2.24.1
Firefox 3.0.4

When Evolution is opened first, clicking an E-mail link launches
Firefox; however, the display in Firefox is either black or scrambled.
Then, if you open an E-mail in a separate window, it is also scrambled.
If both applications are closed, you can open Firefox and it displays
correctly (the window may appear scrambled while it is opening; however,
it corrects itself quickly). With Firefox open, you can then open
Evolution and both seem to display correctly (most of the time).

[Bug 288594] Re: Chess board disappears after one move in 3d mode.

2008-11-23 Thread rfugger
No, I don't play any 3D games in Wine. I have noticed problems in
F-Spot photo manager with desktop effects enabled, namely that slideshow
transitions are shaky, and changing panel items (such as clock) show
through as a white square when they change. Maybe I should file under
desktop effects?
