[Bug 300037] [NEW] black screen on login page (AMILO L6820)
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Hi, When I boot Ubuntu 8.4 I get black login screen. I can hear the Ubuntu start music but screen remains black. If I type my username and password I can hear that the login is completed and desk top should be present behind the black screen. I tried using vesa drivers. But this does not help and the symptoms remain similar. If I press alt+F1 I get to normal terminal login screen. And the funny part is that sometimes when I press alt+F7 I get to the normal login screen or desktop if I entered my credentials. Similarly weird behavior is that if I fall back into recovery mode and select continue loading I sometimes (1 out of 4) get directly into working login screen without the need to go into terminal screen. I am writing this bug using one of the above workarounds. I think that this is related to some initialization and in what order xserver wakes up the screen. jerrylamos, why do you keep insisting that this is a compiz issue when all evidence points to the intel driver. It is silly to start dropping words like codepath that you don't understand to argue your point. It is not that compiz uses codepaths that don't work, it is that compiz uses driver paths that are not working properly. The driver paths are the problem. It is the responsibility of the driver to make the paths to the hardware properly available. The fact that these paths are not working is a problem in the driver not compiz. There are other software applications that use these paths, although not very many at this point. For example the Avant Window Navigator developers are undergoing a rewrite to see if they can start using them. These paths make it possible to achieve accelerated graphics without the overhead of cpu use by accessing the video cards hardware directly. Now enough with the talk about compiz being at fault. -- Intrepid Compiz hangs on login for i830MG, i845, and i945GM video cards https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/259385 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to yelp in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
