Re: [Bug 146918] Re: Poor descriptions for some applications in Startup Programs window

2009-06-30 Thread Andruk
I think that as long as it's included and used in Ubuntu, we should
fix it. It's a completely trivial fix anyway. Immediately perfect
and improve the things you can, work carefully and thoughtfully on the
things you can't.

2009-06-30 Thread Mark Zschoch
Public bug reported:

The Gnome Power Manager Manual preferences screen (specifically section

between suspend and hibernate (APCI S3 and ACPI S4. A lot of newbies
don't know how they differ functionally.

Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. Please answer these questions:
1: Does this problem exist in Karmic? Kindly test this in karmic ,Papercuts are
minor issues that exist in Karmic
2: Also, I dont see a easy/quick fix for this , Why do you think this is a
papercut?
3: What is the papercut solution you propose?

A paper cut is a minor usability annoyance that an average user would
encounter on his/her first day of using a new installation of Ubuntu

[Bug 394099] [NEW] gedit "find" shortcut changed mysteriously for user

2009-06-30 Thread glass.dimly
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

I'm on Ubuntu 9.04, gedit 2.26.1. The search shortcut, or ctrl + F, has
somehow been borked for my user. The root user retains that shortcut.

The shortcut that gedit thinks has taken its place, alt + x, is the
shortcut I assigned through System -> Preferences -> Keyboard Shortcuts
to close the current window. Alt + x doesn't search in gedit, it just
closes the window, just like everywhere else.

I've done a $locate gedit in my home directory and deleted all my
configuration files and replaced them with root's config files. This
didn't fix the problem.

How can I edit gedit's keyboard shortcuts to fix it?

[Bug 394095] [NEW] Renaming music directory causes loss of metadata

2009-06-30 Thread PaulWay
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

I am reporting this here because GNOME's bugzilla is broken - searching
for 'directory' returns a blank page.

When you rename a directory in the Music library while RhythmBox is
open, it thinks that the files are completely new. This causes all the
tracks to lose their ratings, metadata, etc. The old tracks are still
seen but are now unplayable, and when Rhythmbox restarts it then removes
the old tracks as being unavailable.

Steps to reproduce:

1) Open rhythmbox with at least one directory of music files in the Library
directory.
2) Rename that directory.

What should happen:

3) Nothing changes - the tracks remain the same, their metadata is
preserved, and the paths to them are corrected in Rhythmbox's library.

What does happen:

3) The new directory is detected and the files are scanned, creating new music
tracks in the directory.
4) The existing tracks are still present but unplayable.
5) When Rhythmbox is restarted, the existing tracks and their metadata is
removed.

Package and OS info:

This is present in Rhythmbox 0.11.6.
I use Fedora 10, but the bug is present in versions of Ubuntu that ship with
this version of Rhythmbox - e.g. 8.04
I have logged this bug here because it is not possible to search the GNOME
bugzilla for this bug. I am applying for an account with their bugzilla in the
hope that I can log this problem there as well.

[Bug 194213] Re: Dim files when you 'cut' them for later 'paste' action

2009-06-30 Thread Cody Russell
I find the cut icons very confusing. They exist on different corners of
the icons, and they exist on both dimmed icons and non-dimmed icons.

The only question I have about David's mockup is how prelight/mouseover
affects a dimmed icon. Right now when you mouseover an icon it lightens
up a bit, so I guess if you mouseover a dimmed icon then it lightens up
some more?

2009-06-30 Thread Martin Albisetti
Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. Unfortunately a paper cut
should be a small usability issue that affects many people and is quick and
easy to fix. I'm afraid this bug can't be addressed as part of this project.

on his/her first day of using a new installation of Ubuntu 9.10.

Now there is only a blank terminal and ~462mb is being used.

[Bug 261272] Re: gnome-power-manager crashed after detaching from power-supply

2009-06-30 Thread Scott Howard
Thank you taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.
However, processing the crash report to get detailed information for the
developers failed as the retracer did not generate a useful symbolic stack
trace.
Please try to obtain a backtrace manually following the instructions at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash and upload the backtrace (as an
attachment) to the bug report. This will greatly help us in tracking down your

[Bug 394045] [NEW] Evince fails to display embedded graphic in PDF

2009-06-30 Thread Steffen Röcker
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

I've been trying to open the PDF available at
http://arxiv.org/abs/hep-ph/0611237 but Evince fails to open page 5 and only
shows 'Loading'. Page 5 consists of text and an embedded graphic.
CPU usage is at ~80% and memory usages increase ~2Mb/s.

I have tried the Postscript version of the document with Evince and it can
display page 5 but fails on page 10.
Acrobat Reader and gv can display the .pdf(/.ps) properly.

[Bug 135548] Re: [Gutsy] Action on critical battery isn't triggered - regression

2009-06-30 Thread Scott Howard
@DervishD: discharge-time-profile tells you the amount of time your
laptop spends with a specific battery percentage during a single
discharge. For example, in your image, your laptop would quickly
discharge from 100 to 90 percent, then slow down from 90-10, then
quickly accelerate from 10-0.

Could you test this with a Karmic LiveCD? Sometimes, when upgrading or
changing batteries, GPM doesn't keep track of the batteries properly.

Upstream claims that this particular bug has been fixed. Could someone test a
clean Karmic system (or LiveCD) to see if your computer will shut down when the
battery is critical?

[Bug 54024] Re: WIN key should be mapped to Applications menu

Personally, I think this is the right thing to do. It won't break the *default*

way.
I'm cautious to confirm it though, since upstream has marked it as
invalid/won't fix.

Sebastien,
Thank you for your response. I am not exactly sure if this problem is
reproducible. I noticed that the Places menu was no longer responding after
fiddling around for a while trying to use a2mp3 to convert m4p files to
mp3. I had also attempted to use AtomicParsley because I mistook the
purpose of that program. I do not know if either of those things had
anything to do with the Places menu problem. sorry I cannot be more
specific.
Thanks again,
Jericho

[Bug 394024] [NEW] gweather-applet-2 stops updating

2009-06-30 Thread Alex
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-applets

gweather-applet-2 becomes unable to update (automatically or manually)
after a random, usually long period of normal behavior.

Switching to a different city (and then immediately back to my own)
under the Location tab in Weather Preferences makes the applet snap out
of it, so to speak; the forecast and current conditions are updated
instantly, and automatic updates proceed normally.

Considering the fiddly nature of my workaround, I'm hoping there's an
easy way to correct this minor bug. It's got to be one of the most
commonly used applets, and it's always been my favorite.

First of all - it does not happen always, it is harder for me to
reproduce.

Second - the wiki page does not contain any information about how to
debug GDM/XDM processes. These are very special a bit. I usually restart
GDM with /etc/init.d/gdm restart but how to run it?

I will try to run "gdm" without any parameters like in

[Bug 376145] Re: gvfs-gdu-volume-monitor crashed with SIGSEGV in gdu_pool_get_presentables()

2009-06-30 Thread Sense Hofstede
I can confirm this too on Karmic.
Curiously HALd also refuses to start.

The error message telling gvfs-gdu-volume crashed comes very soon after
logging in, together with an error message about bzr-notify crashing, as
reported in bug #391158.

Running 'sudo hald --verbose=yes' gives no error messages, neither does
running 'sudo /etc/init.d/hal start', even though its status is not
running.

Running '/usr/lib/gvfs/gvfs-gdu-volume-monitor' doesn't give you the
next emtpy line in the console, but doesn't output anything at all.

Both hal and gvfs-gdu-volume-monitor don't show up at all when you try
to run them manually. The only remaining process with hal in it was
gvfs-hal-volume(something?).
