[Bug 454234] Re: eel_preferences_get_boolean: assertion `preferences_is_initialized ()' failed

2009-12-04 Thread Erez Volk
Hi All,

I'm not sure how/what to change here, but I think I've tracked down the
bug, and it's an Ubuntu bug and not in the original Nautilus code. After
some debugging and stack tracing, here is what I've found (looking at
the nautilus-2.28.1-0ubuntu3 sources):

- In src/nautilus-main.c, around line 465, there is a call to
eel_preferences_get_boolean(); this is an Ubuntu patch, related to the boot
curtain
- However, the call to nautilus_global_preferences_init(), which initializes
the eel preferences code, only comes on line 509.

Result? Every time you run Nautilus you will get this error.
Probable fix? Move the boot curtain code down after the initialization call.
I've tried this and it seems to work (see attached patch below), but I may be
missing some bigger picture.

[Bug 488391] Re: intermittent very slow X login with eventual dbus error

2009-12-04 Thread Scott James Remnant
Your slow login appears to be because gnome-setting-daemon doesn't
register with gnome-session

The D-Bus reply timeout appears unrelated, being about GVfs

[Bug 492248] [NEW] Offline IMAP synchronisation unreliable

2009-12-04 Thread Demosthenes
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic)
Evolution 2.28.1
IMAP - confirmed with Gmail and local ISP mail server

I have set folders to be marked for offline synchronisation, as well as
enabling the automatic synchronisation option. Have synchronised for
offline use and switched offline, and synchronised again when prompted.
Many emails are not available when offline, and network usage indicates
that not much has been downloaded. Have attempted on two different
systems, both using Karmic. This is very important to me as this is the
main reason to use Evolution, as I currently have no other way to backup
an IMAP email folder.

Seems to happen on large email accounts. Tried on a small email
account, and seems to have worked. On large email accounts, it seems
only a small number of random emails are downloaded.

Re: [Bug 473872] Re: rhythmbox crashed with SIGSEGV in gdk_window_set_geometry_hints()

2009-12-04 Thread faon
Hi Pedro,

No, I can't reproduce this bug, it was all a context that I'm not humanly able
to describe.
But, anyway, it works well for a few weeks now. I haven't had this problem
anymore (it seems to be related to the installation, that's all what I can say).

thank you for your work,
Xavier

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
 better. Please answer these questions:
 1. Is this reproducible?
 2. If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug? Be as
 detailed as possible.
This will help us to find and resolve the problem.

[Bug 488391] Re: intermittent very slow X login with eventual dbus error

2009-12-04 Thread Chris Coulson
This is not likely to be a gnome-settings-daemon issue really. It
doesn't register with the session manager (it just fork()'s when all the
plugins are loaded). Even if it doesn't do this in time, the phase
timeout is only 10 seconds anyway so wouldn't account for a 3 minute
delay. It seems like the panel fails to register too, and the GVFS error
will only occur if gvfs-gdu-volume-monitor is not contactable (it should
be d-bus activated). There seems to be something fairly fundamental
wrong or missing from your session, which basically stops most
components from working.

Is this a fresh install? Has this install ever worked, or did you change
something?

Could you please try logging in to a failsafe xterm session from GDM,
and then running gnome-session --debug 21 | tee gnome-session.log,
and attach the resulting file to this bug report.

Thanks

[Bug 442358] Re: on battery option 'when battery is critically low shutdown' is not working

2009-12-04 Thread Marcelo do Pagode
Same here. I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 (consecutive system upgrade from Kubuntu
8.10-9.04-9.10) on a Positivo W95.
g-m-p also fails to inform time left, it only displays the percentage.
All worked well with Kubuntu 8.10, logged in kde or gnome.

For the record: the system hibernates normally if I click on the hibernate
button.
Please let me now if there is any specific info I should provide.

2009-12-04 Thread Tom V
Wish I were a coder. My field is networking. Technically it is not really a
bug but more a feature that does not keep me from using Ubuntu. The Windows 7
hard drive that came with this laptop sits in a corner. If it sits there long
enough I'll put it in a usb hard drive enclosure, format it to ext 3 or 4 and
use it for storage.
Thanks for the speedy replies.

2009-12-04 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.
If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 411350] Re: gnome-screensaver not functioning

2009-12-04 Thread Lupine
Well, so far so good for me. I applied the update, rebooted, changed
the screensaver settings to 1 minute, waited and it came on. Moved the
mouse to shut it off, played some video files, went to some web pages,
stopped activity again for a minute, and the screen saver engaged again.
I've tried a bunch of other tests, and each time the screensaver now
comes on. Maybe others need to completely reboot?

[Bug 410407] Re: Flash does not work correctly [READ DESCRIPTION]

2009-12-04 Thread Xtigyro
However, that workaround is not constantly working... sometimes it
does work and sometimes does not (tested in http://vbox7.com/)...

I've noticed that the flash controls functioning depends very much on the
version of the Adobe flash being used in the very web-site.
For example, in http://vbox7.com/ (this is the Bulgarian variant of youtube)
obviously the version, which is used in it, is an older one than the version of
flash used in youtube.

I can also claim for sure that my flash controls are working well in
youtube.com and NOT working in vbox7.com.

Re: [Bug 482991] Re: Brasero hangs at Get Size process on 64bit Ubuntu 9.1

2009-12-04 Thread Levente Torok
Hi All,

I prepared for generating backtrace in a manner written down here.
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash
However I couldn't start
/usr/lib/debug/usr/bin/brasero
neither in bash
 l...@red:~/04$ /usr/lib/debug/usr/bin/brasero
bash: /usr/lib/debug/usr/bin/brasero: cannot execute binary file
nor in gdb

l...@red:~/04$ gdb /usr/lib/debug/usr/bin/brasero 21 | tee ~/gdb-brasero.txt
GNU gdb (GDB) 7.0-ubuntu

This GDB was configured as x86_64-linux-gnu.
For bug reporting instructions, please see:

Reading symbols from /usr/lib/debug/usr/bin/brasero...done.

SIG33 NoNo Yes Real-time event 33
(gdb) run
Starting program: /usr/lib/debug/usr/bin/brasero
/bin/bash: /usr/lib/debug/usr/bin/brasero: cannot execute binary file

so I started brasero manually and tried to test if bug still exists.
And it seems to be gone. However I don't know if there were any
software update since my reporting of this bug.
May be some of the libraries on which it relies seem to get a root of
this bug solved hiddenly.
Anyway.
I cannot report on this issue anymore.

Levente

ps: one more idea! At the time of the reporting. My machine was pretty
full of data could it be that brasero cannot
generate some auxiliary file and to check the size accordingly?
