I had an SD card inserted into it right before the test. Anyway, I
don't think it matters now, because as you predicted, in Beta 2, it did
work as expected (i.e. both devices mounted), thank you, now I get to
figure out how to close this. :)

I believe it is. I'm happy for this bug to be closed as a duplicate on
the condition that 156169 isn't ignored for 3 more years!
This is a usability issue, so I am surprised it has been left for so
long. It's all very well having fancy polished icons and themed bling,
but gdm is the first point
