*Just see what British thought of India and how they managed to rule us.* *plz don't forget to read the letter in the end * Just read what INDIA was as per LORD MACAULAY on his statement on 2nd February 1835, in the last snap. That would really shock us Old Photographs from Indian History. Please Read the last Article Carefully The daughter of an Indian maharajah seated on a panther she shot, sometime during 1920s. [Bug 632231] [NEW] Keyboard locks up after login, no desktop appears
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm When trying to install Maverick on my Desktop, I ran into quite a few issues. First off, when using the live cd and selecting Install Ubuntu, the installer didn't appear, only the top panel with the Sound and Shutdown icons, which didn't work. I then tried to use the other option Try Ubuntu without installing, but that simply left me staring at the plymouth screen. If seemed like everything loaded, just in the background. Also, the keyboard locked up, and even the *lock keys didn't work, unless I used ctrl+alt+sysrq+r. Finally, I successfully installed it with the alternative cd, but now I'm again stuck with a locked keyboard and a cursor, only this time it's not during plymouth, but just after having logged in using GDM! Only the cursor and the default wallpaper are on the screen; no icons, no panels, no nothing. I can move the cursor so it's not a total freeze. I was able to use ctrl+alt+F1 to get to a TTY before logging in, and installed all available updates. Didn't help. I also tried Gnome Safe Mode, and Unity. Same result. Haven't tried KDM yet, will do if it helps. ** Affects: gdm (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: freeze gdm keyboard maverick ** Tags added: freeze gdm keyboard maverick ** Description changed: Binary package hint: gdm When trying to install Maverick on my Desktop, I ran into quite a few issues. [Bug 516023] Re: Critcally low shown on unplug at 100% full
If g-p-m would just perform even a slight filter for extreme outliers in its data, this would be solved. I have a Medion Akoya (MSI Wind rebrand), and yes whenever I unplug (even after fully charging), apparently the battery reports an extreme power surge (not even sure if it's real, it could also just be a glitch). Not only does this trigger notifications that the battery is almost empty when it's clearly not, it also throws off the scale of the graphs in the power-statistics window, and the discharge profile has a bunch of erroneous peaks in it. Filtering them out would be fairly trivial. My normal power consumption seems to hover between 10W and 14W, while the typical peak values generated on unplugging the cable always is in the range of 710-720W. I don't think there are any normal circumstances under which a battery should/would report such a huge leap in power usage, not even when it's near the end of its lifetime and almost immediately dies. BTW in a related question, does anyone know where g-p-m stores its charge profile and discharge profile data? I looked for it in several places, without luck. I want to see and try if I can manually remove the huge peak values that are in the discharge profile, because right now it looks like a flat line with two or three peaks towering out of it (because of the scaling of the peaks). -- Critcally low shown on unplug at 100% full https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/516023 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Not only do I not use a password to log on, I also have the screensaver set to not require a password when interrupted. So it is odd that power management requires one when resuming. [Bug 605577] Re: Help contents title bar shows cubes with numbers instead of a proper title
Here's what happens: In an English system, the English language pack installs the following translation catalogs for yelp: /usr/share/locale-langpack/en/LC_MESSAGES/yelp.mo /usr/share/locale-langpack/e...@shaw/LC_MESSAGES/yelp.mo /usr/share/locale-langpack/en_AU/LC_MESSAGES/yelp.mo /usr/share/locale-langpack/en_CA/LC_MESSAGES/yelp.mo /usr/share/locale-langpack/en_GB/LC_MESSAGES/yelp.mo They correspond to each one of the variants for which there are translations. However, /usr/share/locale-langpack/en/LC_MESSAGES/yelp.mo should not exist, since that corresponds to the POSIX (C, or US English) locale, in which all applications are written - and therefore no translations are needed. The 'en' translation is being created from the 'e...@shaw' one, and that's because the translation tarball exported from Launchpad to create the latest full language pack on 2010-08-17 [1] contains the yelp e...@shaw translation in the en/LC_MESSAGES folder. I'm not sure why, but perhaps because of the recent changes with @ locales in Launchpad? I'm adding a task for Launchpad Translations. Thanks Dennis for pointing to the cause of the problem. [Bug 607357] Re: gnome-about-me: cannot cope with incorrect current password under LDAP backend
This is an issue on x86 too. Some more symptoms (sorry for not being able to reproduce the correct dialogs, I do not have this app in English) 1) Clicking on Change Password the 'Present password' line accepts ANY passwords, after clicking on the Check button (the one to the right form the 'Presnet password' input box). 2) Then you give your new password (twice). You do this happily as you have been NOT warned that you made a typo at the present password. You click on the Change Password button and you get: 'The old and new passwords are the same.' (of course they are not.) ** Tags added: x86 -- gnome-about-me: cannot cope with incorrect current password under LDAP backend https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/607357 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 632341] [NEW] Num Lock is not activated by default at GDM
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm This is a pretty trivial bug, but it may be a candidate for future a 100 papercuts cycle. I did try searching to see if it had been reported before, but couldn't find any - apologies if I've missed it! At present, NumLock isn't enabled when you go to log in to Ubuntu, so you have to manually enable it before entering numerical passwords on the number pad. While this isn't a critical issue, it is one that I feel should be fixed. I don't know anyone who uses the number pad for its arrows, and other OSs do enable NumLock by default. Additionally to achieve this behaviour at present requires installing the numlockx package, and manually editing /etc/gdm/Init/Default - which is clearly not appropriate for new users. I have seen the same behavior with Lucid, my machine was up for about one month and during that time I have experienced big I/O waits several times. [Bug 632362] [NEW] eye of gnome cannot open image file with wrong extension
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: eog Eye of gnome fails to open a jpg image file, if file-extension is .png, failing with the following non-friendly error-message: Could not load image 'image.png' Fatal error reading PNG image file: Not a PNG file However, EOG has no problems opening the file if the file-extension is completely removed. This inconsistent behaviour should be fixed, and from a users point of view I would say the best solution is to simply open the file as any other file, possibly with a message to the user that the file-extension on the file is wrong (maybe even suggest to change the file extension to the correct one). [Bug 605577] Re: Help contents title bar shows cubes with numbers instead of a proper title
What happened was that for some unknown reason an en.po file containing e...@shaw translation was imported into Launchpad at some point. We do not know if this was because of a bug in the imports and how they deal with @ translations or a mistakenly commited translation or something else. What we do know is that it is not a bug in the translation exports, so I'm marking the Launchpad Translations task as Invalid. In order to fix this, I've uploaded an empty (without msgstr translations) en.po file to the yelp template in Launchpad Translations, and this empty file should replace the current en.po with wrong Shavian translations. This effectively means that in the next translations export the empty file will fix this. If we're lucky, and the file is imported some time today before the scheduled export, the next Maverick language pack tomorrow should include the fix. If not, the next one on Sunday will fix it. ** Changed in: language-pack-gnome-en-base (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Fix Committed ** Changed in: rosetta Status: New = Invalid -- Help contents title bar shows cubes with numbers instead of a proper title https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/605577 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to yelp in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
