[Bug 529212] Re: Battery monitor does not report battery information
No Kamus, it's been changed. Now a left or right click on the battery icon produces a drop down in the form: Laptop battery hrs:minutes left Preferences I believe that this is considered the correct behaviour according to the current user interface design of Ubuntu. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a .crash file. [Bug 677375] [NEW] closing windows sometimes switches keyboard layout
You have been subscribed to a public bug: In GNOME, I use the keyboard layouts USA Dvorak international and United Kingdom (same layout for all windows, scroll-lock set as switch key). At seemingly random times, when I close windows to applications like gvim and chromium, my layout will switch. I can't work out a way to reproduce this reliably. The only thing I know is that I'm happily Dvoraking away, then I close a window, and start typing and am surprised with gibberish because my layout was switched to QWERTY behind the scenes. I think I've experienced this since Ubuntu 9.10 at least. You have been subscribed to a public bug: I found a setting in gconf-editor: /desktop/gnome/background/picture_opacity The default is set to 100, but changing the value doesn't seem to have any effect. If I set it to e.g. 50, I expect the wallpaper to be half transparent, showing whatever is underneath, respecting the colors I've chosen for /desktop/gnome/background/primary_color /desktop/gnome/background/secondary_color and the value chosen for /desktop/gnome/background/color_shading_type Those last three values work as expected, but I only see a background color if I disable the background picture. I cannot see any background color just by reducing the opacity of the background picture. Using Ubuntu 10.10, GNOME 1:2.28+1ubuntu4, gconf-editor 2.32.0-0ubuntu1. [Bug 578380] Re: [regression] can't print from evince
My box is now at 10.10 (Maverick) and the issue is still there (Lexmark T644). The issue affects printing from many apps. Can't print directly from OpenOffice, can't print from evince, can't print from gimp. The only way I've found to get printouts from this box is printing first to a file (.pdf) and then sending the printjob to the printer from Adobe Acrobat. At home, using an HP Photosmart printer I don't see this issue, either in Lucid or in Maverick. Don't know if this is of any help, but probably is, as this is giving a hint about what the problem might be: what page rendering language is being sent to the printer? Postscript? PCL? Who is responsible for generating this output? gs? cups? Maybe there's a bug already reported for one of these subsystems? I can help trying to debug with some guidance. But it's really a shame that a commercial product (Acrobat) is able to send correct Postscript/PCL, or whatever it is, to the printer, and that this bug is still new, unassigned, and marked as low priority after 6 months. It's not only me that's having this problem ... other users have already reported similar issues: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups/+bug/373796 -- [regression] can't print from evince https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/578380 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evince in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 677452] [NEW] Power applet shows as charging when unplugged
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager I have a dell inspiron 1525. It's possible there's some sequence like sleep, unplug, unsleep which creates the conditions for this bug to emerge. The behaviour, given the default Ubuntu settings, is that the battery applet just disappears completely (since it thinks it's charging, and by default it is not shown). I had to get into the power settings to change this, and then it became clear that it was confused about its charging state. [Bug 397350] [NEW] unable to play audio CDs on SATA dvd/cd player
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Howdy! I can't get 9.04 64 bit (Desktop or Server) to play a regular audio cd to save my life. Depending on your tastes in music, you might think this is a good thing :) This is true for my laptop (Lenovo X301), my server (has 2 sata dvd drives), and a workstation (also has a sata drive). Data disks work completely as expected, I'm able to burn dvds and cds. But if I put a regular audio disk in, I get the following (for example) on my laptop: [22925.310117] end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 0 [22925.310128] Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 0 [22925.310135] Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 1 [22925.310144] Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 2 [22925.310149] Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 3 [22925.310155] Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 4 [22925.310160] Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 5 [22925.310166] Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 6 [22925.310171] Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 7 [22925.341786] end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 0 [22925.341799] Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 0 [22925.341808] Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 1 [22925.435344] ata2.00: exception Emask 0x12 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x400 action 0x6 frozen [22925.435353] ata2.00: irq_stat 0x0800, interface fatal error [22925.435360] ata2: SError: { Proto } [22925.435373] ata2.00: cmd a0/00:00:00:02:00/00:00:00:00:00/a0 tag 0 pio 16388 in [22925.435375] cdb 43 02 05 00 00 00 00 00 02 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 [22925.435377] res 50/00:03:00:04:00/00:00:00:00:00/a0 Emask 0x12 (ATA bus error) [22925.435383] ata2.00: status: { DRDY } [22925.435393] ata2: hard resetting link [22926.032590] ata2: SATA link up 3.0 Gbps (SStatus 123 SControl 300) [22926.037352] ata2.00: ACPI cmd e3/00:79:00:00:00:a0 succeeded [22926.038485] ata2.00: ACPI cmd e3/00:01:00:00:00:a0 succeeded [22926.049889] ata2.00: ACPI cmd e3/00:79:00:00:00:a0 succeeded [22926.050910] ata2.00: ACPI cmd e3/00:01:00:00:00:a0 succeeded [22926.053451] ata2.00: configured for UDMA/33 [22926.058956] ata2: EH complete The disk will spin up, crank, and then spin down all the while popping up a window with Unable to mount Audio Disk - DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus). [Bug 676798] Re: evince can't show some characters in some (probably old) pdfs
Note that xpdf's problem is not rending (not like evince). Its problem is key lag. And only the version in Ubuntu repository has this problem. The version (binary) downloaded from xpdf official site ( http://www.foolabs.com/xpdf/ ) has not this problem. To reproduce the problem, I have just reinstalled xpdf-reader from synaptic. Synaptic shows the version is 3.02-2ubuntu1. This version renders pdf well, but key lag problem still occurred. To reproduce the key lag problem, one can try the pdf in my previous post and zoom into 300% or 400%. Then quickly press arrow key, eg. right arrow, many times, you will see document move lag much behind key strokes. Then you can repeat same operations using official xpdf and no lag would happen. -- evince can't show some characters in some (probably old) pdfs https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/676798 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evince in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
