[Bug 529212] Re: Battery monitor does not report battery information

2010-11-19 Thread Jonathon Hodges
No Kamus, it's been changed. Now a left or right click on the battery
icon produces a drop down in the form:

Laptop battery hrs:minutes left
Preferences

I believe that this is considered the correct behaviour according to the
current user interface design of Ubuntu.

Thank you for checking with me.

Jonathon

[Bug 677375] [NEW] closing windows sometimes switches keyboard layout

2010-11-19 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

In GNOME, I use the keyboard layouts USA Dvorak international and United
Kingdom (same layout for all windows, scroll-lock set as switch key).

At seemingly random times, when I close windows to applications like
gvim and chromium, my layout will switch. I can't work out a way to
reproduce this reliably.

The only thing I know is that I'm happily Dvoraking away, then I close a
window, and start typing and am surprised with gibberish because my
layout was switched to QWERTY behind the scenes.

I think I've experienced this since Ubuntu 9.10 at least.

[Bug 677280] [NEW] gconf wallpaper picture_opacity setting has no effect

2010-11-19 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I found a setting in gconf-editor:

/desktop/gnome/background/picture_opacity

The default is set to 100, but changing the value doesn't seem to have
any effect. If I set it to e.g. 50, I expect the wallpaper to be half
transparent, showing whatever is underneath, respecting the colors I've
chosen for

/desktop/gnome/background/primary_color
/desktop/gnome/background/secondary_color

and the value chosen for

/desktop/gnome/background/color_shading_type

Those last three values work as expected, but I only see a background
color if I disable the background picture. I cannot see any background
color just by reducing the opacity of the background picture.

Using Ubuntu 10.10, GNOME 1:2.28+1ubuntu4, gconf-editor 2.32.0-0ubuntu1.
Not sure which package this would be in.

  Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

If I suspend my laptop (i.e. close lid), unplug it, and then open it
back up again, the gnome-power-manager fails to notice that it's now

[Bug 578380] Re: [regression] can't print from evince

2010-11-19 Thread FernanAguero
My box is now at 10.10 (Maverick) and the issue is still there (Lexmark
T644).

The issue affects printing from many apps. Can't print directly from
OpenOffice, can't print from evince, can't print from gimp. The only way
I've found to get printouts from this box is printing first to a file
(.pdf) and then sending the printjob to the printer from Adobe Acrobat.

At home, using an HP Photosmart printer I don't see this issue, either
in Lucid or in Maverick. Don't know if this is of any help, but probably
is, as this is giving a hint about what the problem might be: what page
rendering language is being sent to the printer? Postscript? PCL? Who is
responsible for generating this output? gs? cups?

Maybe there's a bug already reported for one of these subsystems? I can
help trying to debug with some guidance.

But it's really a shame that a commercial product (Acrobat) is able to
send correct Postscript/PCL, or whatever it is, to the printer, and that
this bug is still new, unassigned, and marked as low priority after 6
months.

It's not only me that's having this problem ... other users have already
reported similar issues:

[Bug 677452] [NEW] Power applet shows as charging when unplugged

2010-11-19 Thread Cefn
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

I have a dell inspiron 1525. It's possible there's some sequence like
sleep, unplug, unsleep which creates the conditions for this bug to
emerge.

The behaviour, given the default Ubuntu settings, is that the battery
applet just disappears completely (since it thinks it's charging, and by
default it is not shown).

I had to get into the power settings to change this, and then it became
clear that it was confused about its charging state.

[Bug 649809] Re: Meerkat (10.10) does not apply theme properly

2010-11-19 Thread pfrenssen
If you wish.

#649809 (this issue):
- describes a problem in which the entire gnome desktop reverts to the default
theme on boot, except the theme selector window
- occurs only in 10.10, not in 10.04
- affects only systems which have a X58-chipset, proprietary Nvidia-driver, and
SSD-drive
- is 100% solvable by applying the workaround in #68

#500417:
- describes a problem where nautilus does not honor the theme settings for its
internal window, but the rest of the desktop is unaffected
- occurs in both 10.04 and 10.10
- affects a variety of system setups
- is not solvable by applying the workaround in #68 of this issue

[Bug 608219] Re: Submenus not added when done so with Glade

2010-11-19 Thread Karl Lattimer
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-ubuntu/+bug/584669 is affected by
this bug, this is *partly* worked around by calling
appindicator.set_menu() *AFTER* submenus have been appended to the menu.

However, a bug still exists in that the wrong widget is passed to the
callback and therefore the setting is always read from the currently
selected item rather than the activated item.

What I expected to happen - put in an audio cd and be able to either play or
rip it in some fashion.

What happened instead - errors above.

I can't believe I'm the only person seeing this kind of behavior. The
closest thing I was able to find was a bug posted against fedora 11.
I'm using very generic clean installs on both systems. Any ideas? Is
this a known issue and my google-fu is just sad?

[Bug 676798] Re: evince can't show some characters in some (probably old) pdfs

2010-11-19 Thread Fayer Michael
Note that xpdf's problem is not rending (not like evince). Its problem
is key lag. And only the version in Ubuntu repository has this problem.
The version (binary) downloaded from xpdf official site (
http://www.foolabs.com/xpdf/ ) has not this problem.

To reproduce the problem, I have just reinstalled xpdf-reader from
synaptic. Synaptic shows the version is 3.02-2ubuntu1. This version
renders pdf well, but key lag problem still occurred.

To reproduce the key lag problem, one can try the pdf in my previous
post and zoom into 300% or 400%. Then quickly press arrow key, eg. right
arrow, many times, you will see document move lag much behind key
strokes. Then you can repeat same operations using official xpdf and
no lag would happen.

[Bug 578380] Re: [regression] can't print from evince

2010-11-19 Thread FernanAguero
Thanks Till for the prompt response, and for the suggestions,

Using the same test.pdf file posted before
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evince/+bug/578380/+attachment/1385033/+files/test.pdf)
I have captured two spooled print jobs, one from evince (681) and one
from adobe acrobat (682):

[fer...@sigma] lpstat -o
lexmark-681 fernan 10240 Fri 19 Nov 2010 11:03:32 AM ART
lexmark-682 fernan 180224 Fri 19 Nov 2010 11:05:13 AM ART
[fer...@sigma] sudo ls -l /var/spool/cups/
total 204
-rw--- 1 root lp822 2010-11-19 11:04 c00681
-rw--- 1 root lp794 2010-11-19 11:05 c00682
-rw-r- 1 root lp 9433 2010-11-19 11:03 d00681-001
-rw-r- 1 root lp 179576 2010-11-19 11:05 d00682-001

I am attaching here one print job (681, spooled from evince) and will
follow up this post with other attachments (spooled print job from
acrobat, and cups error_log).

[Bug 578380] Re: [regression] can't print from evince

2010-11-19 Thread FernanAguero
This print job (682) prints OK on the Lexmark T644.

The previous attachment (681) failed to print. As I described before,
the job gets sent to the printer, the printer wakes up, heats the drums,
starts rolling the brushes, etc. but then nothing comes out.

[Bug 677486] [NEW] shares-admin installs packages without authentication

2010-11-19 Thread taylorkh
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools

Ubuntu 10.10 32 bit and 64 bit

I open a terminal window and type shares-admin - the dialog tells me
Sharing services are not installed and prompts me to install NFS
and/or SMB. I click the Install Services button and the following
packages are DOWNLOADED and INSTALLED (example from 64 bit machine).

  libgssglue1_0.1-4_amd64.deb
  libnfsidmap2_0.23-2_amd64.deb
  librpcsecgss3_0.19-2_amd64.deb
  nfs-common_1%3a1.2.2-1ubuntu1_amd64.deb
  nfs-kernel-server_1%3a1.2.2-1ubuntu1_amd64.deb
  portmap_6.0.0-2ubuntu1_amd64.deb
  samba_2%3a3.5.4~dfsg-1ubuntu8_amd64.deb

I am NOT prompted for credentials to gain escalated privileges. Upon
completion I verified that SAMBA is INSTALLED and RUNNING. This seems
to me to be a security issue as I am able to perform privileged
activities without proper authentication.

Right, running metacity through dbus-launch should work, and I believe
Matthias confirmed that on UDS. Can this be closed?

Even if there's something we can do for natty to make this easier, it's
not important enough for an SRU.
