[Bug 858338] Re: gedit should 'find next' when I press enter in find

2014-01-10 Thread NicolaeS
Hello guys,
I totally agree with Kevin's opinion! I find the current functionality of quick
find very annoying.
I don't understand why this happened, as *all* other software (not just editors
- see web browsers, PDF viewers etc) have a de-facto standard for the
quick-find functionality.
I hope this will be fixed soon!
Thanks in advance,
Nick

[Bug 1210852] Re: gvfsd-http assert failure in g_error_free()

2014-01-10 Thread Sebastien Bacher
@Christopher, Gulliver: I'm not sure why you want that specific fix
backported?

Reading the SRU description which was added, it seems you might think
the fix would resolve issue it probably doesn't. The change is to fix an
error handling, having the fix wouldn't fix the fact that gvfs hits an
error, it would just avoid triggering apport on it.

In any case no need to update gvfs to get the fix for that segfault, the commit
is a one liner
https://git.gnome.org/browse/gvfs/commit/?h=gnome-3-10id=de8ad26c71e14a15a3c5eeb05a73033dfccc8d85

Which should be easy to apply to the saucy version/SRU. Could you try to
build a package with it and see if that indeed fixes your issue?

Correction: it works for some settings on the clock tab. It seems to

OK.

Also, I talked to the Ubuntu GNOME team about what they plan to do with
unity-control-center. They said that it was desirable to be able to
access the online accounts in GNOME for the apps that need it. Will
anything show in g-c-c once we move to u-c-c? Do you care about this
 use-case as an upstream?

I wonder whether by Online Accounts they meant GNOME Online Accounts
(GOA) or Ubuntu Online Accounts (UOA). The former should indeed be
visible in g-c-c without special support from our side; the latter is
currently visible as well in GNOME, causing two Online Accounts applet
to appear in the control center (bug 1040193). Do we want to continue
showing it there as well?

I would prefer if the Ubuntu GNOME session were as close as possible to
upstream, meaning that it would be fine for me if UOA was not appearing
in the GNOME control center. However, this would need at least two
things to happen first:

- If built with UOA support (as it is in Ubuntu), Empathy currently
opens the UOA panel when asked to configure accounts; we should probably
change that to a run-time decision, maybe based on the contents of
XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP.

- Ubuntu's Shotwell build is tightly integrated with UOA, and in order
to publish on Facebook, Flickr or Picasa you need to have a
corresponding account setup in UOA. We should fix this by submitting our
patches upstream, and rework them so that the decision to use UOA can
happen at runtime. Unfortunately this could take several days of work,
and I'm afraid I don't have this time... :-(

Hi,
I used zenity in my script for years.
In ubuntu saucy, if you try to double on an item in a zenity list, it will be
printed two times at the end (with pipe separator) just like if you selected
two items.

How to reproduce, in a command line:
$ zenity --list --column Pet Chien Chat

Double click on on item, see the result in the terminal:

Expected result:

Try with simple clic and 'Ok' button, it will be printed only once.

[Bug 1210852] Re: gvfsd-http assert failure in g_error_free()

2014-01-10 Thread Gulliver Moy
@Sebastien, I wanted to be able to use Abiword as my word processor as
is intended in Xfce. I also think that countless others must have
encountered this problem (seeing as it is present on 100% of machines
I've tested it on) and found it very frustrating, particularly when
trying to meet deadlines and having a crashing computer on their hands.
I was told that this is the same bug as the one I originally posted so
in my mind a fix for this bug was a fix for my problem and everyone
elses. So it seemed logical to have it backported.

... But you're saying that the 'fix' doesn't actually address the
problem it just stops apport being triggered? I don't see how that could
write this bug off as 'fix released'! I want apport to run when my
system encounters an error, otherwise I've got nothing to go on! How the
hell can ignoring the error be considered a fix

Right. So, the gnome-control-center-signon source package which provides
the UOA applet allows building the UOA applet as a standalone
application. Maybe we should package the standalone app in a separate

[Bug 989981] Re: Scrolling using scroll wheel does not work in certain GTK 3 applications but works elsewhere in 12.04

2014-01-10 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Michael Moorman, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xserver-xorg-input-synaptics REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please note, given that the information from the prior release is
already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one
would not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1210852] Re: gvfsd-http assert failure in g_error_free()

2014-01-10 Thread Gulliver Moy
Yes, the link Christopher posted was the original valid report I created
before being redirected here. When I first made it the launchpad report
title field was already filled and launchpad suggested that it could be
the same bug. I had a look and was unsure. The error details were
similar but not exactly the same and there was no mention of abiword so
I decided to create a new report. Soon after Christopher informed me
that it was the same bug so I ditched that report and started hanging
out here.

If you read my edited version of the bug description of the report we're
on now you will find details on how to trigger it. When I was told to
make these edits whilst following the SRU procedure I was somewhat
unsure because making this bug report so specific to my problem seemed
to narrow it. But I continued anyway as that's what I had been asked to
do and cautiously explained myself in the description.

I can't say whether it is specific to xfce because I have no machines
running other desktop environments to test it on. The reason I mention
xfce specifically is that it bundles abiword as default word processor
so the bug will affect primarily its users. I guess I could try closing
xfce and running abiword from the terminal using a keyboard shortcut I
came across once? But my guess is it's not specific to xfce...

I hope this all makes sense now?

[Bug 1248303] Re: Regression: installing gutenprint printer driver fails

2014-01-10 Thread Till Kamppeter
** Description changed:

Installing driver for Canon MP160 has worked perfectly from 12.04 to
13.04, but not anymore in 13.10. The USB printer get detected correctly,
but when installing the driver via New Printer dialog, only gutenprint
can be selected and the Installing driver gutenprint dialog just gets
  stuck and nothing happens.
+
+
+ [IMPACT]
+
+ High, as if locally unsupported printers cause a driver download from
+ OpenPrinting the download ends in an infinite loop and cannot be
+ cancelled due to a crashed user interaction thread, blocking system-
+ config-printer completely not allowing a manual setup of the printer.
+
+ [TESTCASE]
+
+ In a terminal window run the commands
+
+ cd /usr/share/system-config-printer/
+ python newprinter.py --setup-printer=file:/tmp/printout
--devid='MFG:Canon;MDL:MP160;'
+
+ Accept to download the offered Gutenprint driver and enter your password
+ when you get asked for it. The download and installation of the
+ Gutenprint package from OpenPrinting will take place and right after
+ that, before closing the progress pop-up, system-config-printer will
+ freeze.
+
+ In the terminal output of above commands you can see a crash of one
+ thread:
+
+ --
+ Traceback (most recent call last):
+ File /usr/share/system-config-printer/newprinter.py, line 3676, in

+ path = :.join(str(val) for val in path)
+ TypeError: 'NoneType' object is not iterable
+ --
+
+ Due to this task you cannot get out of the printer setup wizard by
+ clicking Cancel.
+
+ With the proposed system-config-printer package neither the crash nor
+ the freeze will happen and both setting up the printer with the package
+ from OpenPrinting and canceling the OpenPrinting download and after that
+ setting up the printer manually will work.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ None, as the patch is trivial

[Bug 1232454] Re: Computer will suspend very soon because of inactivity. dialog when resuming from suspend

[Bug 1267863] [NEW] indicator-keyboard don't work correctly

2014-01-10 Thread denkin
Public bug reported:

My hotkeys are set to Ctrl+Space.

Sometimes after system boot layout switching hotkeys are not working at
all. To make them work I need to open layout switching properties and
set hotkeys again (even if they are the same). Thereafter they start
working.

But, layout switching is not working correctly.

Steps to reproduce:

1. If I press Ctrl+Space - layout is not switching.
2. Holding Ctrl - release Space button and press Space again. Layout switched
normally.

If you release Ctrl, then to switch layout you need to repeat this steps
again. (Pressing Space 2 times, but not 1 time.)

[Bug 1232454] Re: Computer will suspend very soon because of inactivity. dialog when resuming from suspend

2014-01-10 Thread Carsten Schnober
Thanks for the suggestions. I'd like to point out, however, that automatically
killing the notification windows affects any notification, including ones that
might indicate completely unrelated issues. I suppose this could result in
quite annoying effects when potentially important messages are dismissed
through this. Therefore I would not even consider this approach a workaround
for the actual problem.
There might be a way to kill specific notification windows only, but I don't
think that this leads to a clean solution for the bug either.

[Bug 1266961] Re: nautilus: after scrolling in window, files that weren't visible show no rename label

2014-01-10 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thanks for the bug report, I can confirm in trusty and that seems fixed
with nautilus 3.10 (the update is being considered/tested). If we don't
get the new version then we should look at backporting the fix for that
issue

ok, it was indeed an issue with the new GTK with an easy commit, I've
backported that to trusty so we don't have a less usable filemanager
until the 3.10 situation is sorted out

[Bug 1265528] Re: Share ring tone with greeter via AccountsService

2014-01-10 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Not sure we discussed that in the past, but for such configurations
where we have a gsettings key synced to accountsservice, what do we
consider the canonical source/configuration? is that still gsettings?
(e.g what should the phone app use)

if that's gsettings, what is responsible for updating the accountsservice side
when the value change (we are adding code to ubuntu-system-settings to do it,
but if the value is changed by some other way (gsettings command line, phone
app itself, some third party software)?
Do we expect each client to have that synchronization code?

Note that for the desktop background case on the desktop we did patch
gnome-settings-daemon/nautilus to update the service, those are services
running all the time, it means the configuration tools don't need to
each re-implement the sync code

Re: [Bug 1265528] Re: Share ring tone with greeter via AccountsService

2014-01-10 Thread Iain Lane
On Fri, Jan 10, 2014 at 05:13:16PM -, Sebastien Bacher wrote:

I was working under the assumption that consumers are to be converted to
AS. The way that I've implemented this is that u-s-s is setting both
until everything stops using gsettings. Once everything (that we know
about) is converted then we should stop setting GSettings, and after a
cycle or so I guess drop the keys from the schema, although that's not
so important.

AS is a bit harder to query that GSettings is, so there might be scope
for a commandline tool like `gsettings' to deal with that. We've got a
load of ad-hoc (some patched in) properties that make this not very
attractive though.

there should ideally be a library (there are a few floating around -
don't think any are in Ubuntu yet) to interface with AS from Qt. In the
meantime using D-Bus or the glib library directly isn't that painful.

Cheers,

[Bug 1210852] Re: gvfsd-http assert failure in g_error_free()

2014-01-10 Thread Gulliver Moy
Ok - well I am of course happy to try it, trouble is that easy-though-
it-may-be, I have no idea how to apply the patch. I assume you're
talking about this link you posted
https://git.gnome.org/browse/gvfs/diff/daemon/gvfsbackendhttp.c?h=gnome-3-10id=de8ad26c71e14a15a3c5eeb05a73033dfccc8d85
?

I get what I have to do to the line, the trouble I'm having is opening
the file to edit it. I gather that the file should be
root/daemon/gvfsbackendhttp.c

I've tried navigating via thunar, but can't access the /root folder. So
I tried gksudo thunar from the terminal and then I can open /root but
the loading cursor just hangs for a while and nothing inside shows. Also
tried gksudo mousepad /root/daemon/gvfsbackendhttp.c and sudoedit
/root/daemon/gvfsbackendhttp.c but both just open blank documents the
former again with the loading cursor.

Anyone want to talk me through it?

[Bug 1265528] Re: Share ring tone with greeter via AccountsService

2014-01-10 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Hum, I'm not sure I like the idea to make AS the default configuration
source.

Binding a property to a gsettings key is a 1 liner with gsettings-qt and
it's quite light on resources, using AS seems quite heavier in code and
less error proof to me (I trust less the AS service than dconf I guess).

That said that's just personnal feeling, but I think it's a topic worth
discussing before deciding on a direction.

Michael, do you have an opinion on that? Should we maybe move that
discussion to a list ?

It has worked well here over a couple of weeks doesn't seem to add to an

I just understand your way to do won't kill the silly popup when you unlock the

It seems to me that the best killer trigger remains the moment when we enter
the password.
Assumed Carsten comment, I think I'll switch back to the use of wmctrl which
seems to target more precisely the Energy pop-up, although I'm completely
ignorant and unskilled if this window title is used elsewhere.
I tried here ( https://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?pid=15709961#p15709961

does not seem to cater for the reverse use case on the phone.

[Bug 1242984] Re: Gedit context menu font is monospace

2014-01-10 Thread Adolfo Jayme
IMHO this is a bug in new GTK -- in unity-greeter's password field, if
you right-click it it also inherits font styling from the field.

[Bug 1267787] Re: Menus in gnome-session-flashback are bloated in Trusty

2014-01-10 Thread Adolfo Jayme
I don't understand what you mean by bloated? In any case, this should
be reported upstream as indicated in
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME.

[Bug 1268074] [NEW] Purchased from Ubuntu One submenu hard / impossible to remove

2014-01-10 Thread Phil Wyett
Public bug reported:

Purchased from Ubuntu One submenu hard / impossible to remove.

The submenu of Music on the interface has a section Purchased from
Ubuntu One.

Derivatives should be able to remove this menu item but it seems to be
impossible. Removing the Ubuntu One plugin for the app does not do it.

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2014-01-10 Thread Fabien Basmaison
I don’t know if that can be of any help, but after installing packages
from the attente repository, I encountered the following problem with
Sublime Text: http://www.sublimetext.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3t=14926

Also, doing “Ctrl+C” would not work within application like Firebug or
Chrome Developer toolbar, while editing some attribute within the DOM
tree visualization. Using the trackpad would work.
