More specifically, it happens when a page visible on the display is no longer in the rewritten PDF file. This only happens when the number of pages in the document shrinks, and the currently visible page before the rewrite is after the end of the document after the rewrite. (Since errors in compilation may as a side-effect shorten the output PDF, this can show up when the latex compilation fails.) eg If I remove pages 5-7 from a document 7 page document, recompile it while evince is running, and evince is currently displaying page 6, evince will crash. If evince is displaying page 3, it will not crash... [Bug 1707222] [NEW] usage of /tmp during boot is not safe due to systemd-tmpfiles-clean
Public bug reported: Earlier this week on Zesty on Azure I saw a cloud-init failure in its 'mount_cb' function. That function esentially does: a.) make a tmp directory for a mount point b.) mount some filesystem to that mount point c.) call a function d.) unmount the directory What I recall was that access to a file inside the mount point failed during 'c'. This seems possible as systemd-tmpfiles-clean may be running at the same time as cloud-init (cloud-init.service in this example). It seems that this service basically inhibits *any* other service from using tmp files. 09:26 looks like the tarball was generated with non-patched / out of date config.sub; rebuilding now with extra debug to see if autoreconf is actually done or not. 09:28 dh_update_autotools_config 09:28 dh_autoreconf are both run. 09:29 cat config.sub, shows timestamp='2016-11-04' so all is good. 09:29 still a bit sad that a point release tarball is generated with very old configury. 09:33 xnox: so it's all in config.sub, and I know what to look at to confirm this for next time.
