[Bug 1730543] Re: In gnome-shell, unlocking screen before suspend completes means no password is required on resume

2017-11-20 Thread Sebastien Bacher
the main issue there is that suspend took long enough that you though
there was an issue and managed to unlock, that shouldn't happen. In
practice still a bug but rather a low/uncommon one

[Bug 1722487] Re: Failing to open some pictures - Improper call to JPEG library in state 200

2017-11-20 Thread WhiteKnight
I'm not using Ubuntu but Arch and I'm affected by the same problem like Simon.
So it seems like to be an upstream bug.

I cannot reproduce the behaviour at all. It just randomly happens when
(quickly?) going through photo collections.
Picture are on the SSD with XFS. Going back and forth “fixes” it, rarely I have
to do this more than one time per picture.
dmesg's output does not show anything related to IO problems.

[Bug 1733068] [NEW] Unmounted USB drives wake up on 16.04

2017-11-20 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

On Ubuntu 16.04, if i plug in a USB drive, then unmount it (eject
button) in nautilus, then force it to sleep (hdparm -y), the drive
reports to be in standby:

hdparm -C /dev/sdd

/dev/sdd:
 drive state is: standby

However, after some time during which i have not tried to access the
drive, the drive seems to spin up again, and reports to be active again:

hdparm -C /dev/sdd

/dev/sdd:
 drive state is: active/idle

I have been researching on google, askubuntu, irc, but apparently nobody
has been able to tell what is that wakes up the drive. Everybody say
that if the drive is unmounted, it should stay sleeping.

Note: I also tried to add the drive partitions in fstab, so to force gvfs to
ignore the drive.
Even this failed to keep the drive sleeping.

I have not been able to test this on 14.04 yet, but 14.04 successfully
keeps internal SATA drives asleep even when mounted unless i explicitly
access them.

One additional question i would have, at this point, is also whether there is
some tool to check what process tries to access the device.
Or some sort of tcpdump for SATA..

[Bug 1733342] [NEW] randomly doesn't show "index.html" file in folder

2017-11-20 Thread teo1978
Public bug reported:

I have a folder which contains a file called "index.html" and few more
files.

At random times, I open this folder in Nautilus and it shows all the files
except for the one called index.html. It looks like it's just not there.
The first time this happened I thought I had deleted it by accident.

Exiting the folder and reopening it usually fixes the issue.

[Bug 1733410] [NEW] awfully slow to respond when drawing selection rectangle

2017-11-20 Thread teo1978
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:

open a folder containing some files
click on an empty zone of the window and start dragging as if you wanted to
select some files

Expected behavior: as you move the mouse cursor while holding down the mouse
button, the selection rectangle should be continuously redrawn. This redrawing
should happen at a very fast rate (like more than a dozen times a second at the
very least) so you would have the impression it is "continuous". Also, this
should consume an almost undetectable amount of CPU.

Observed behavior: the rectangle is not redrawn until you stop moving the mouse
cursor. If you keep moving the mouse cursor, it will never be redrawn at all!
If you do stop moving the mouse as you normally do, you will get the impression
that the animation is terribly jerky, as if the computer was doing too much
work.
CPU consumption reaches 100% while you move the mouse, whether or not the
selection rectangle is redrawn.

The developers upstream say this is not an issue in Nautilus itself (I wonder
how they can be so sure).

[Bug 1730174] Re: [artful] Mouse broken after upgrade from 17.04 to 17.10

2017-11-20 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Thanks for your report.

Odd mouse behavior has reasonably nothing to do with im-config. Changing
the affected package to gnome-shell for now.

If you need help to fix your desktop, this is not the right place. This
is a bug report. Please ask for support instead at e.g.
. (But maybe you'd better try a fresh install of
17.10 instead...)

[Bug 1730174] [NEW] [artful] Mouse broken after upgrade from 17.04 to 17.10

2017-11-20 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

After upgrading from 17.04 to 17.10, I encounter strange mouse issues,
namely :

- The mouse cursor moves allright

- But mouse clicks are completely ignored both in Gnome's gdm and once
logged in to the desktop, they are also ignored in all the Gnome panel
and lef side dock.

However, once started using keyboard, mouse DOES work INSIDE applications
allright (all the times), and SOME windows can be moved by dragging their title
bar when focus is given to them (i.e. I currently have a gedit window that I
can move around with the mouse, while I cannot move a gnome-terminal or the
firefox in which I type this text).
Also, a directory/file selection dialog for the "save" action in gedit works
perfectly well with the mouse.

This is definitely not a hardware mouse issue.

But I cannot change focus with the mouse, I have to [Alt]-[Tab] to
change window.

Also if I shift focus to the desktop, I can interact with icons on the
desktop and the right-click on the background *may* work.

I've purged all the .something config dirs in my homedir to no avail
(and I don't believe it relates to it because gdm shows this behaviour
even before I actually login).

I've seen the exact same problem (after upgrade from 17.04 to 17.10)
being reported on miscellaneous forums by at least 3 other people. So
I'm not alone, but I have no clue.

Trying to investigate this I checked a big part of my system's
configuration and fell upon im-config.

I have noticed that, when completely uninstalled (all the files that it
refers to being removed), then reinstalled, this package actually FAILS
installing any of its configuration files (but without any error
message), resulting in the following situation :

root@totor:~# dpkg -r --force depends im-config

[Bug 1732522] Re: [2.3] Ephemeral boot environment does not renew DHCP leases

2017-11-20 Thread Scott Moser
This issue is discussed in a document at

https://docs.google.com/document/d/14xH2Q3VH_7ArXzRPhqogfACeOI0rmEinm_Q98imNWlc/

Its all about "transition" of networking information from the initramfs
environment which is configured by the kernel command line over to the
"real root".

The Ubuntu foundations team is expecting to have dhcp transition
correctly in 18.04.

[Bug 1733322] [NEW] Unable to enable file or screen sharing with unmanaged network connection

2017-11-20 Thread Emil Styrke
Public bug reported:

I have installed Ubuntu Server 17.10. At request from a colleague I
then tried to install ubuntu-desktop and enable screen sharing.
However, this did not work as expected. When trying to enable screen
sharing (same goes for file sharing), the enable button just jumps
straight back to disabled when toggling it. I assumed this had
something to do with the fact that the "networks" list at the bottom of
the sharing dialog was empty. This appears in the syslog when trying to
toggle:

Nov 20 11:31:06 bcubuntu3 gnome-control-c[1054]: Failed to enable
service vino-server: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.InvalidArgs:
Sharing cannot be enabled on this network, status is '0'

This computer has only a single wired network connection (no wifi).
This connection shows in the system menu as "Wired unmanaged" which
seems to be the reason that it doesn't show up in the sharing dialogs.

As a workaround, I tried the following things:

1. Change "managed=false" to "managed=true" in
/etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf as suggested in
https://askubuntu.com/a/2905
2. Touch /etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/10-globally-managed-devices.conf as
suggested in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/1676547
3. Change renderer to NetworkManager in /etc/netplan/01-netcfg.yaml

1 and 2 was not enough to get NetworkManager to manage the wired
interface, but 3, possibly together with one or both of the previous
steps did the trick.

When I finally got NetworkManager to manage the wired connection, it did
show up in the sharing dialogs, and I was able to enable screen sharing.
However, it would seem reasonable to be able to enable sharing even on
unmanaged interfaces by some mechanism, especially since unmanaged
interfaces seem to be the norm these days.

[Bug 1733299] [NEW] Unable to change display positionning when laptop is docked under 17.10 gnome-control-center

2017-11-20 Thread Joseph Maillardet
Public bug reported:

Since upgrading to 17.10, I was unable to drag displays to match my
setup under "gnome-control-center display" when my zbook 15 laptop was
plugged on HP 230W docking station.

This scenario imply 3 screens. The switched off 4k 16:9 laptop screen
3200x1800 (lid is closed), one LG 21:9 2560x1080 and one Dell 16:9
1920x1080. (See attached picture)

It's impossible to move the display screen inside the "Display
Arrangement" zone.

For know I manage with xrandr but unfortunately, I have to arrange
screen after each reboot. Without gnome-control-center, screen position
is not stored.

This is probably not an upstream GNOME bug, it's most likely a bug in

[Bug 1733334] [NEW] ATK doesn't list all children for GtkNotebook when tab contains more than label

2017-11-20 Thread Marcin Szałowicz
Public bug reported:

When gtknotebook have got a tab page that contains something more than
label we can't access those elements in accerciser.

For example create a GtkNotebook and put a Bo that contains label and an
image into the tab page, then observe the hierarchy in the accercisser.
Those elements won't be show and what's worse if the image is used to
close the tab, there will be no way to do this.

[Bug 1733337] [NEW] Randomly fails to show folder contents, "loading..." forever

2017-11-20 Thread teo1978
Public bug reported:

This happens to me randomly every once in a very long while. I don't
know of a way to reproduce it systematically.

I just navigate to a folder. It says "Loading..." on the bottom-right of the
window, and it stays like that forever, failing to display the contents of the
folder, without any error message.
It doesn't have to be a folder with lots of files. Right now I've just seen it
happen with a folder that only contains 4 files.
