This problem is probably related to: "Following Mutter's 3.32.1 release, meanwhile, the developers have now hard-enforced a requirement that graphics drivers on the system either support OpenGL 2.1 or OpenGL ES 2.0 as a minimum." [Bug 1824588] Re: With AutomaticLogin enabled, logging out lands me on a black screen that's unresponsive to any keyboard input
I will follow up ASAP. The plot continues to thicken. I tried a different set of hardware today with a B43 chipset and it didn't seem to be effected. But that board has only DVI and VGA outputs whereas the effected board with a G43 chipset has DVI and HDMI. I'd been using HDMI so now I ran another range of tests using DVI on the effected board and was unable to reproduce. So this appears to effect a very selective subset of 10 to 12 year old hardware. Must be Intel X4500 graphics with HDMI connection and possibly only the G43 chipset. So it's the absolute corneriest of corner issues I've ever encountered. And the workaround couldn't be any simpler - just remove the "quiet splash" boot parameter and all seems well (both boot to and logout to gdm3 screen). BTW ASAP may be rather slow in coming because I have a few medical procedures scheduled in the next few weeks. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm3 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1824588 Title: With AutomaticLogin enabled, logging out lands me on a black screen that's unresponsive to any keyboard input To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/+bug/1824588/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Not sure if related, but I do run under wayland (weird that it looks like an X11 error then, especially as evolution runs wayland native?), with fractional zooming on my laptop panel @ 175% and usually have an external, lower resolution screen at 100% scaling. [Bug 1825197] Re: system unresponse for several seconds a couple of times per hour
As far as I can tell, the common error (from gjs): Attempting to call back into JSAPI during the sweeping phase of GC. This is most likely caused by not destroying a Clutter actor or Gtk+ widget with ::destroy signals connected, but can also be caused by using the destroy(), dispose(), or remove() vfuncs. Because it would crash the application, it has been blocked and the JS callback not invoked. is caused by a type of mistake that has been made in JavaScript locations. And that mistake is common, in multiple locations in gnome- shell and its extensions. Although I don't yet understand what that mistake looks like in code :( ** Summary changed: - system unresponse for several seconds a couple of times per hour + system unresponse for several seconds a couple of times per hour [Attempting to call back into JSAPI during the sweeping phase of GC...] -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1825197 Title: system unresponse for several seconds a couple of times per hour [Attempting to call back into JSAPI during the sweeping phase of GC...] To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1825197/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1805444] Re: [nvidia] Fail to launch gnome-shell (Wayland) on Ubuntu with EGLDevice backend
No, not directly, but kind of :) The option to start a Wayland session is enabled by adding: nvidia-drm.modeset=1 to your kernel command line. Secondly, mutter's Wayland backend needs to be found to WORK with it. If it doesn't work (this bug), then mutter will hide the Wayland option before you ever see the login screen. So you should: 1. Add nvidia-drm.modeset=1 to your kernel command line; and 2. [Bug 1825208] [NEW] Automatic suspend delay is at least 15 mins
Public bug reported: Settings -> Power -> Automatic suspend -> On battery power -> Delay has a minimum value of 15 mins. This might made sense to the developer who thought that you never want a lower value because you have a laptop with multiple hours of battery life, but the same setting is used for desktop computers than run on UPSs. In case of a power outage, desktop users might reasonably want a lower delay before suspending the computer (1 or 5 minutes, etc.) so I believe that this is a UX design issue. Public bug reported: My system is up-to-date on: $ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 18.10 Release:18.10 $ apt-cache policy gnome-shell gnome-shell: Installed: 3.30.2-0ubuntu1.18.10.1 Candidate: 3.30.2-0ubuntu1.18.10.1 To provide you with an idea of the motivation for the origin in gnome- shell; I've included the lines in syslog that are displayed for many more occasions than presented below. At the times that these messages are displayed in my logs I can still move my mouse, but mouse clicks are unresponsive and typing is frozen (but text does appear after freeze). [Bug 1824886] Re: Battery level stuck at 100% and Estimating...
Looking to comment #20 it looks like a kernel issue, the /sys entry tell the charge level is 100% Is /sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/status also telling you 'charging' when it's on battery? Googling a bit I found https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=238944 which states it started being buggy on the 4.17 kernel, which would explain why it works on the 'old 4.15' kernel you have with mint. The comment also state that it's fixed in kernel 4.20.13, could you try on a 19.04 liveCD to see if the new kernel there makes it work for you? ** Bug watch added: Linux Kernel Bug Tracker #201351 https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=201351 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1824886 Title: Battery level stuck at 100% and Estimating...
