[Bug 1853199] Re: Ctrl + c (copy) anywhere some times crashes gnome session

2020-06-01 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

[Bug 968213] Re: Too many icons in Gnome Shell Activities Overview require ellipses

2020-06-01 Thread Pierre Equoy
If that can be of any help, I have the following use case:

In addition to the default Firefox launcher, I created two other
.desktop files:

- One called "Wayland Firefox #1" to run Firefox on Wayland with user
profile #1
- The other called "Wayland Firefox #2" to run Firefox on Wayland with user
profile #2

I'm using a 4k screen (3840×2160), so I have *a lot* of space available
on the screen.

And yet, GNOME uses ellipsis and this is what I get when I look for
"Firefox" in the GNOME Overview screen (see attachment).

I hope this gets fixed soon. Something as simple as a tooltip when
putting the cursor on top of the icon or text would be very helpful
already.

[Bug 1881684] [NEW] GIMP Python Plugins Won't Run in Ubuntu 20.04

2020-06-01 Thread linux4me
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu 20.04 and GIMP installed via apt, v. 2.10.18.

To reproduce the problem:

Install a python-based plugin in ~/.config/GIMP/2.10/plug-ins. In my
case, it was Export Layers (https://github.com/khalim19/gimp-plugin-
export-layers).

Run GIMP from Terminal and you see:

/usr/bin/env: ‘python’: No such file or directory
gimp: LibGimpBase-WARNING: gimp: gimp_wire_read(): error

There is no "Python-fu" menu item on the Filters menu in GIMP even with
a python-based plugin installed in ~/.config/GIMP/2.10/plug-ins, and
that folder listed in GIMP -> Preferences -> Folders -> Plugins.

What I expect to happen is to be able to run GIMP python-based plugins,
and to have the Python-fu menu item on the Filters menu when a python-
based plugin is installed.

The cause seems to be that 20.04 does not provide the package gimp-
python, which is not listed as a dependency or a "suggests" on the
package page for Focal (https://packages.ubuntu.com/focal/gimp) though
it is for Eoan.

I did find a workaround. Here are the steps:

sudo apt install python-cairo python-gobject-2
wget
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/p/pygtk/python-gtk2_2.24.0-6_amd64.deb
wget
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/g/gimp/gimp-python_2.10.8-2_amd64.deb
sudo dpkg -i python-gtk2_2.24.0-6_amd64.deb
sudo dpkg -i gimp-python_2.10.8-2_amd64.deb

Once I did that, GIMP started without any errors and Export Layers works
just fine.

[Bug 1870736] Re: [nvidia] Screen scaling 125% gives 200%

2020-06-01 Thread Evgeni Tsvetanov
Experiencing this with RTX 2070 Super. Driver: 440.64. Using 3 monitors
(two 4k, and one 1440). When I try to switch to 125% scaling for the 4k
monitors I get all sorts of weird behavior: monitors disabling, low fps
(the ubuntu UI is very laggy, behaves like it runs in 20-30 fps), weird
zoom issue (hard to explain but when it happens the monitor is not the
entire viewport and when I put the mouse close to the edge it moves the
viewport).

I think I know what cause this bug. This happen only when prime-select
is set on-demand, intel and nvidia is unaffected.

[Bug 1881294] Re: Apparmor blocks evince GUI-Input-Dialogs

2020-06-01 Thread Jamie Strandboge
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1856738 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1856738

@Reinhard, you are now hitting bug #1856738 which prevents @{HOME} from
being used in the peer_addr for an abstract socket. For now, I suggest
updating /etc/apparmor.d/abstractions/ibus to have:

  unix (connect, receive, send)
   type=stream
   peer=(addr="@/home/teachers/*/.cache/ibus/dbus-*"),

** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 1856738
access always denied when using @{HOME} tunable in peer_addr for abstract
socket

[Bug 1881527] [NEW] Modifications in xmodmap not taking effect

2020-06-01 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I'm having difficulties in remapping some of my keys on Ubuntu 20.04 and
gnome-control-center version 3.36.2. The problem is similar to Bug
#1867548 but manifests itself even with gnome-control-center versions
with this bug fixed.

I follow the below steps to exchange the Control_L key and XF86WakeUp key (Fn
on German keyboards):
I execute xev to discover the Control_L and XF86WakeUp keycodes:

KeyRelease event, serial 37, synthetic NO, window 0x461,
root 0x5dd, subw 0x0, time 4165720, (668,636), root:(902,854),
state 0x4, keycode 37 (keysym 0xffe3, Control_L), same_screen YES,
XLookupString gives 0 bytes:
XFilterEvent returns: False

KeyPress event, serial 37, synthetic NO, window 0x461,
root 0x5dd, subw 0x0, time 4166218, (668,636), root:(902,854),
state 0x0, keycode 151 (keysym 0x1008ff2b, XF86WakeUp), same_screen YES,
XLookupString gives 0 bytes:
XmbLookupString gives 0 bytes:
XFilterEvent returns: False

Then, I run
$ xmodmap -e "keycode 37 = XF86WakeUp"
and
$ xmodmap -e "keycode 151 = Control_L"

After which xev shows:

KeyRelease event, serial 37, synthetic NO, window 0x3c1,
root 0x5fd, subw 0x0, time 1691367, (1390,1888), root:(1584,2066),
state 0x0, keycode 151 (keysym 0xffe3, Control_L), same_screen YES,
XLookupString gives 0 bytes:
XFilterEvent returns: False

KeyPress event, serial 37, synthetic NO, window 0x3c1,
root 0x5fd, subw 0x0, time 1692110, (1390,1888), root:(1584,2066),
state 0x0, keycode 37 (keysym 0x1008ff2b, XF86WakeUp), same_screen YES,
XLookupString gives 0 bytes:
XmbLookupString gives 0 bytes:
XFilterEvent returns: False

Saving this to a .Xmodmap file and looking at the content correctly shows the
change:
$ xmodmap -pke ~./Xmodmap
$ cat ~/.Xmodmap
-- snip --
keycode 37 = XF86WakeUp NoSymbol XF86WakeUp
keycode 151 = Control_L NoSymbol Control_L
-- snip--

However, the system still treats key 37 as Control_L, and key 151 as
XF86WakeUp. Setting 'xmodmap .Xmodmap' to ~/.xinitrc and rebooting also
doesn't work.

[Bug 1866194] Re: External audio device shows up in the sound output options but the sound keeps being emitted from the internal laptop speaker, or none at all.

2020-06-01 Thread salima
just checking in to introduce myself.
here is something about my machine:
 salima@inspiron5559:~$ inxi -SMA
System:
  Host: inspiron5559 Kernel: 5.4.0-31-generic x86_64 bits: 64
Desktop: LXQt 0.14.1 Distro: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS (Focal Fossa)
Machine:
Type: Laptop System: Dell product: Inspiron 5559 v: N/A
  serial:

Audio:
Device-1: Intel Sunrise Point-LP HD Audio driver: snd_hda_intel
  Sound Server: ALSA v: k5.4.0-31-generic

about 3 years ago i bought the laptop, loaded with ubuntu, but i
switched to lubuntu 14 which i had been using on the hcl desktop. the
internal speakers are useless so i added f speakers with subwoofer.
great sound! i had switched to 16.04 and had no problems with it on the
laptop either. i got delayed in upgrading to 18 so i dont know what
would have happened.

i recently upgraded to lubuntu 20.04 after testing with the live cd to
make sure the wifi and sound connected. everything was fine. so i did a
fresh install, but after that i had only internal speakers. i also tried
my phillips headphones and they too had no sound. (i havent used
bluetooth)

after installing the lxde desktop to 20.04, i was watching both versions
of pulseaudio while i was experimenting with the settings. i could see
them change in both windows. it seemed like they did what they ought to,
but sound only came out through internal speakers.

i think my problem is this bug. all i have done so far is try to see
what is happening. dell seems to have too many issues, so if anyone
knows of any other make and build that this dist works good on, please
let me know.

[Bug 1881294] Re: Apparmor blocks evince GUI-Input-Dialogs

2020-06-01 Thread Reinhard
Hello Arnold,

thanks a lot for your fast and good answer!

But maybe I do something terribly wrong or there is something working
strange?

To deploy apparmor changes I started to play around on a test machine
with no LDAP and no NFS.

1. created new user: /home/teachers/check
2. added @{HOMEDIRS}+=/home/teachers/ to
/etc/apparmor.d/tunables/home.d/site.local
3. sudo apparmor_parser -r /etc/apparmor.d/usr.bin.evince
4. sudo service apparmor reload
5. reboot

but still have the same behavior as described above :-(

And this is the error-message I get now:

Jun 1 11:15:29 r000pc01 kernel: [ 21.460130] audit: type=1400
