[Bug 1898404] Re: The keyboard overlay slides up the screen even though touch screen is not in use

Which onscreen keyboard is it (there are multiple)? Can you provide a
screenshot?

Also, can you please test a live boot of 20.04.1 and tell us if the
problem is still there?

[Bug 1898479] [NEW] Shotwell: Russian translation is invalid

2020-10-04 Thread Bogdan Vasiliev
Public bug reported:

Shotwell 0.30.10-0ubuntu0.1 distributed in Ubuntu 20.04.1 has broken

[Bug 1898470] [NEW] Activities and apps view overlap after session is active for some time

[Bug 1890141] Re: Can't fullscreen, or windows get automatically un-fullscreened, when using fractional scaling

2020-10-04 Thread laurenz baba
Amazing, this extension really seems to be doing the trick.
At least playing fullscreen videos in Firefox and Gnome Videos seems to be
working again.
But Kodi still doesn't work corrently. There is a huge dark border around the
actual Kodi window, as you can see in the picture that I attached.

The Ubuntu wallpaper bottom right is my from my second Full HD monitor,
if you are wondering.

[Bug 1897460] Re: VLC Snap Incompatible With Thunderbird

2020-10-04 Thread Andrew Piziali
Matthew, thank you for properly identifying the responsible component of
Ubuntu 18.04 that prevents Thunderbird and VLC from interoperating.
"gnome-software" is more precise.

This is not a Thunderbird, VLC or snapd problem. This is an Ubuntu 18.04
application packaging issue. The problem is that Thunderbird saves a
temporary attachment file in /tmp before invoking a helper application
to open it. If the helper application associated with the file is VLC,
VLC does not have permission to open the file. (In fact, the system /tmp
directory is not even in the VLC snap's filesystem name space.)

The solution is to build and configuration VLC for this Ubuntu release
so that it shares its /tmp directory with the system /tmp directory,
i.e. they are one and the same.

[Bug 1898442] [NEW] Center new windows

2020-10-04 Thread Tichun
Public bug reported:

Place new windows in the center, not in the top left corner. Can you
imagine if this was happening on other operating systems?

There was a bug report that there was no option to start windows
centered - https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/1298263

Yet this is not the end of the problem - the windows should open in the
center *by default*, not as a hidden option in dconf -> org/gnome/mutter

[Bug 1892440] Re: Shell text with wrong size in mutter 3.36.4-0ubuntu0.20.04.2 (mostly on Nvidia)

2020-10-04 Thread Sujit Kumar
I just reinstalled Ubuntu 20.04.1 on my laptop and changed the graphics
driver to "NVIDIA driver metapackage from nvidia-driver-450
(proprietary, tested)" and it seems to have fixed this small text issue
(and also the corrupted background bug). Can someone tell me the
difference between this metapackage and the "NVIDIA binary driver -
version 340.108 from nvidia-340 (proprietary)"?

[Bug 1898426] [NEW] Favourites missing when booting with a smartphone connected

2020-10-04 Thread Tichun
Public bug reported:

1. Connect an android phone through USB, I have also set in android 'Developer
Options'->'Default USB Configuration'->'USB Tethering' (also checked 'File
transfer' with same results, sadly there is no option to disable all this so
cannot test without this step)
2. Reboot Ubuntu with phone screen locked, don't unlock the phone.
3. After Ubuntu has rebooted, there are no favourites on the dock.
4. To get the icons back, open any application and wait about a minute.
Unlocking the phone screen after the system has booted doesn't help (see on
that below)

Presumably after changing USB Tethering to File Transfer in android dev
options, it started to often freeze the whole Ubuntu system boot procedure, not
even sysrq keys are responding. The boot after the freeze is fine but displays
tty output instead of a blank screen or the splash (i'm not always getting
ubuntu splash screen but just a blank screen)
If the phone screen is unlocked during Ubuntu's reboot, the system boots fine
and dock is working properly, but there is an increased chance of display
modesets after logging in.

The phone tested runs android 10, tested an android 2 phone and it
didn't reproduce the issue. Likely setting default usb config in
developer options is the key here.

[Bug 1897460] Re: VLC Snap Incompatible With Thunderbird

2020-10-04 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
Andrew, I suggest deciding what you want this bug report to be about.

If it’s about the VLC snap, then in this case Sebastien suggests it’s a
bug in snapd.

If it’s about Ubuntu Software, then you should change the steps to
reproduce to focus on Ubuntu Software.

Either way, it should not be filed on software-center, which is a
separate app altogether.

** Package changed: software-center (Ubuntu) => gnome-software (Ubuntu)

** Changed in: gnome-software (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1897460] [NEW] VLC Snap Incompatible With Thunderbird

2020-10-04 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When I changed my default video player from Totem to VLC, Thunderbird
was no longer able to play an email message video attachment. By
default, Ubuntu Software installs the VLC snap package, whose permission
scheme prohibits it from accessing the directory where Thunderbird saves
the video file to be played (/tmp/mozilla_andy0). VLC reports:

Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'file:///tmp/mozilla_andy0/[VIDEO FILENAME]'.
Check the log for details.

To reproduce the bug:
1. Open a Thunderbird message.

2. Single left click on an attached video file handled by VLC.

3. VLC starts and then opens an error dialog with the above "Your input
can't be opened" message.
