I dist-upgraded to Dapper last week and I noticed this bug yesterday.
I've got 768 MB of RAM, and gnome-cups-icon was around 20% of memory
usage. I killed it and this morning it is back around 7%. It seems to be
very slowly increasing while I did not print anything since yesterday.

I just wanted to add that I see the corruption even with RenderAccel
to false in the radeon section of the xorg.conf file.
I've been experiencing the corruption in dapper for several months now,
mostly on epiphany and muine applications but lately (a couple of weeks)
it has gone worse and all
I just wanted to add that this behaviour remains. lsof while g-c-i is
looping shows essentially the same as the one attached above with file
descriptor 16 still being the ipp connection.

I can reproduce this bug by closing RB using metacity's 'X' button, or
by right-clicking on the notification icon, and choosing 'quit' while
RB's window is hidden.

you don't have a backtrace with your comment, but it looks like you are running
rhythmbox from gdb instead of attaching the already running one with gdb -p
$(pidof rhythmbox). If you want to do it your way:
- gdb rhythmbox
(gdb) run
close it, it should keep running on the prompt, do Ctrl-C

I have similar experience with some other games, like ManiaDrive, which
are probably blocking all keyboard actions by self, so the screensaver
daemon cannot catch them. My idea is to add some kind of an user-

I haven't tried noauto.. but the 'sudo mount.. ' in a script is what is
causing my freeze ;-)
But I see what you mean.. put it in the /etc/fstab, but the noauto just
means that I don't have to use the entire command in the script... ok,

I have had these lines and it worked..almost. The trackpad responds
better but with no precission at all. I´ve just downloaded the latest
release (Ubuntu 6.06 LTS) and unfortunatly the team behind this great
project didn´t fix this really annoying bug.

ok, get this. I put this in my /etc/fstab:
//deb/andrea/home/bkastor/test-mount smbfs
noauto,users,sync,username=andrea%password,dmask=777,fmask=777 0 0
(which I can type in .. using mount -t.. and it works)
After putting this in the fstab, I open a terminal and type in:
sudo mount
I had switched back to human before I posted those file's, but I also thought
that I would clean up the gdm.conf-custom to see if that made a difference. And
it did !!! I have my icons back. Thanks for your help,

When I type it into the xterm, it works fine...
When I double click the executable file with
sudo mount //deb/andrea
it hangs...
sorry... little flustered. I can type this all just fine, and now my
wife is learning what the hell was going on in the background!

To be more precise i think this problem occur when there is no local
cupsd running.
We use only one dapper based cupsd to handle all printers and so
we modified all /etc/cups/client.conf to specify the server address.

Carlos: can you disintegrate all the templates from es_ES locale in
Rosetta? IMO, the es_ES locale only brings problems.
Or, at least, make sure that gnome-panel-2.0 template is deleted
completely from es_ES locale. The template now has a translated string,
but I can't delete that translation

I have the same problem on my laptop running latest Dapper. I deleted deskbar
from the panel and now can login no problems, but I would like to get deskbar
working.
I cleared the deskbar history, this didn't fix it.

Seems this bug still crops up on my system after a fresh install of the
final Dapper release, happened when calling my home folder from the
'places' menu.

Yes, re-open it if it's a bug and still present. It's fairly low
priority though, because g-p-m will only shutdown the machine if nobody
is around; and if nobody is around, nobody will see the lack of usplash
:)

This bug disappeared in Breezy. I have now upgraded to Dapper and the
bug is back! Still using en_GB. I still need to try logging in using a C
locale.. Not quite sure how, but I'll look into it and let you know.

Okay, I ran Synaptic, completely removed the package deskbar-applet (this also
removed ubuntu-desktop). Then I logged out, reinstalled both packages from a
text console, logged back in to Gnome, added Deskbar to the panel, and
everything works fine now. I've logged out/in/restarted a few times
I've used the MarkoNo5's tip, all was OK. I've just upgraded tex*
packages today and the hyphenation doesn't work at all.
I found this solution :
00tetex.cnf -- 10tetex.cnf (rename, find it in /etc/texmf/language.d/)
sudo update-language
sudo fmtutil-sys --all
It's now OK.

I bought a brand neew external maxtor hard drive, formatted it and had
it's path as /media/usbdisk-1. This was at first owned by root.root. I
manually changed this via the command line via the chown command. The
file/drive now belonged to me.
