[Bug 45406] Re: memory leak in gnome-cups-icon

2006-06-01 Thread François Ingelrest
I dist-upgraded to Dapper last week and I noticed this bug yesterday.
I've got 768 MB of RAM, and gnome-cups-icon was around 20% of memory
usage. I killed it and this morning it is back around 7%. It seems to be
very slowly increasing while I did not print anything since yesterday.

[Bug 38198] Re: Garbled using open source Radeon driver

2006-06-01 Thread Javier Ruiz
I just wanted to add that I see the corruption even with RenderAccel
to false in the radeon section of the xorg.conf file.

I've been experiencing the corruption in dapper for several months now,
mostly on epiphany and muine applications but lately (a couple of weeks)
it has gone worse and all applications are affected.

[Bug 44196] Re: gnome-cups-icon uses 100% CPU

2006-06-01 Thread Patrik Jansson
I just wanted to add that this behaviour remains. lsof while g-c-i is
looping shows essentially the same as the one attached above with file
descriptor 16 still being the ipp connection.

gnome-cup 4730 patrikj 16u IPv4 12905TCP

As in the first post, if I kill it, it restarts nicely without the 100%
usage.

[Bug 47646] Re: Rhythmbox can't start because an old instance is still running

2006-06-01 Thread Julien Olivier
I can reproduce this bug by closing RB using metacity's 'X' button, or
by right-clicking on the notification icon, and choosing 'quit' while
RB's window is hidden.

It's version 0.9.3.1 from dapper.

I don't use any plugin, but I activated music sharing and
audioscrobbler. Should I try without any of those features ?

Here is a backtrace of RB never stopping after I closed it using
metacity's 'X' button:

you don't have a backtrace with your comment, but it looks like you are running
rhythmbox from gdb instead of attaching the already running one with gdb -p
$(pidof rhythmbox). If you want to do it your way:
- gdb rhythmbox
(gdb) run
close it, it should keep running on the prompt, do Ctrl-C to stop it on gdb
(gdb) thread apply all bt

then you get a backtrace

[Bug 47612] Re: Screensaver starts during a game of Tremulous

2006-06-01 Thread lyon
I have similar experience with some other games, like ManiaDrive, which
are probably blocking all keyboard actions by self, so the screensaver
daemon cannot catch them. My idea is to add some kind of an user-
writable list of applications, in which gnome-screensaver could check,
whether the are/aren't running.

This could be handy also for watching movies with xine/mplayer/totem
etc.. Anyone can add that feature?

[Bug 47842] Deleting many files in opened folder takes very long time

2006-06-01 Thread Bazon
Public bug reported:

steps to reproduce:

1. Be sure you have a delete option in your nautilus contextmenu (see
behaviour in nautilus options)

2. Use Nautilus to navigate to a directory with many files you can
delete, e.g. ~/.thumbnails/normal (For me, that folder included about
1 files)

3. Select all files (e.g. with CRTL+A) and choose delete from the
contextmenu.

what happens:
Deleting these files takes ages (for me: 1 files in prospected 11 hours)
and CPU load is maximum.

Probably because nautilus sorts all files after each one delted.

When I closed that nautilus window, deleting was a question of seconds.

what should happen:
Deleting many files should be fast and shouldn't stress the CPU.

[Bug 47256] Re: nautilus crash, blocks gpanel

2006-06-01 Thread Killercow
I kind of traced the bug back to kde support in gnome.

It only happens when i open a file from an FTP server with quanta,

Quanta loads, but fails to spwan the kwallet password management dialog,
and instead hangs.

This only happens if i open 2 quanta screens at the same time while not
having unlocked the kwallet keyring.

Usually this results in a 100% cpu load for qaunta, and a bunch of ftp
related kde_io slaves idling.

Killing the process trough the process manager works, but is a b*tch
because there's so many small processes.

In other cases quanta gets killed, and nautilus just hangs. In that case
(always on an ftp dir), i can kill nautilus by clicking the close
button, and then allowing it be killed.

This results in all of gnome freezing. gpanel, desktop etc etc.
Non gnome Programs allready open, will work as a charm though.

There's obviously some other process freezing. Which in turn makes
nautilus unresponsive, and also stops the rest.

If i do not kill nautilus i can still use the rest of gnome. (but not
spawn any new nautilus windows)

[Bug 47256] Re: [Bug 47256] Re: nautilus crash, blocks gpanel

I kind of traced the bug back to kde support in gnome.

there is kde support in gnome, it seems that gnomevfs or something is

I'm tempted to close the bug as quanta one though. Is there an easy way
to reproduce the bug? could you describe the steps to have it?

Do you still have that issue? If you still have it, could you get a backtrace

Could you also get a log with GST_DEBUG_NO_COLOR=1 GST_DEBUG=*sink:5 rhythmbox

then suspend and resume the box, wait to get the issue and send the log then

[Bug 47860] 'refresh' icon is from a different theme

Public bug reported:

default (human) theme. the 'refresh' icon is clearly the wrong icon for
the theme. it is far smaller than the other icons, a different general
style, and blue.

this problem krept up during the development cycle for several icons
(including refresh), but the problem went away. i guess it's back.

even though it's just an icon, IMHO it's a higher priority because it's
so visible. feel free to change if you dissagree.

[Bug 3642] Re: Suspend (or hibernate) does nothing

2006-06-01 Thread David M. Carney
Using a Compaq Desktop 64 bit system, Model SR1750NX. This computer has
onboard ATI graphics and 1 gig ram (shared with the video card). The
fglrx driver from the Ubuntu repositories is being used.

This computer will suspend successfully from Windows XP.

When Hibernate is selected from the Logout box, or Suspend or Hibernate
is selected from GDM, the screen goes dark, but the computer is locked
up. I literally have to unplug the machine (no reset button) and plug it
back in to regain control of it. I can also put the computer in
Hibernation with the Hibernate button on the keyboard, but this results
exactly as with GDM or the Logout box.

When I Hibernate with Windows XP, the screen goes dark and the green
power light on the front of the case flashes.

With Ubuntu, it's like the computer starts to go into Hibernation, but
then something stops it from going all the way into Hibernation.

System is fully updated as of 5/31/06.

[Bug 6290] Re: use /dev/video1394, not /dev/raw1394

2006-06-01 Thread Dan Dennedy
Yeah, linux1394 was late to the udev game, and I suspect the kernel name
will be a popular default for udev rule makers. I believe Dapper will be
a popular version for quite a while. Oh well, I will consider changing
the Kino default dv1394 device name or simply try a few popular names in
addition to the configured name.

On the group, while 'firewire' is an obvious, friendly name, putting all
1394 device files under that group does not help the user/admin
distinguish between the safe dv1394 and insecure raw1394.

I think the issue is well discussed and understood now. Let the decision
be made, and we will let nuisance be the mother of invention. :-)
(Meaning, the nuisance encouraging someone to improve the 1394 kernel
interface.)

To be more precise i think this problem occur when there is no local
cupsd running.

We use only one dapper based cupsd to handle all printers and so
we modified all /etc/cups/client.conf to specify the server address.

And we got exactly the same problem as mentionned here.

Hey that's ok. I never know whether what goes wrong on my computer is a

because it meant that a problem now can't be worked out. Sorry.

[Bug 47932] files renamed to be hidden do not get their icon updated on remote FS view

2006-06-01 Thread Killercow
Public bug reported:

when creating a new file, or renaming an existing file on a remote FS
(ftp), to a hidden file name (starting with a .) the file remains
vissible with its old name, and clicking on it gives the expected file

Files which are being renamed to a hidden filename should be made
invissible on save.

Refreshing nautilus removes the file icon.

[Bug 47934] gfloppy should unmount fdd when formatting

2006-06-01 Thread fubarbundy
Public bug reported:

Current behaviour: when trying to format a mounted floppy disk, you get
one of three errors, one of which is totally unhelpful, and the other
two of which are overly technical.

Expected behaviour: at the very least, gfloppy should check if the drive
is mounted and tell the user. However, I see no reason not to unmount
automatically.

More info: the current messages:

With a quick FAT format:

The filesystem creation utility (/sbin/mkdosfs) reported the following
errors:

mkdosfs: /dev/fd0 contains a mounted file system.
 (50)

With a quick ext2 format:

The filesystem creation utility (/sbin/mke2fs) reported the following
errors:

/dev/fd0 is mounted; will not make a filesystem here!
 (54)

With either a 'Standard' or 'Thorough' format:

[Bug 47870] Re: Incorrect date layout

2006-06-01 Thread Ricardo Pérez López
The problem is in the es_ES locale.

The es template is correct, but the es_ES has that error.

See:

https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-es-l10n/2006-June/000430.html

Someone translated gnome-panel-2.0 template incorrectly in es_ES. The
es template is correct, but es_ES has priority over es:

[Bug 47335] Re: Text is messed up

2006-06-01 Thread Gustaf
Yeah, my locale (LANG, all sub-locales are left undefined) is UTF-8, so now
that is clear.
The wicked text appears in Human and Human Circle of Friends, but not in
Debian Greeter. These are the only I've tried. I can do a more thorough test
if it'd help.
I have no other problem like this in any program while in gnome, or out in a

I think your bug is subtely different to the one described here. If you

removed (perhaps by blacklisting the driver). This will let your rule
out your binary driver as the cause of the problem.

[Bug 47870] Re: Incorrect date layout

2006-06-01 Thread Ricardo Pérez López
Carlos: can you disintegrate all the templates from es_ES locale in
Rosetta? IMO, the es_ES locale only brings problems.

Or, at least, make sure that gnome-panel-2.0 template is deleted
completely from es_ES locale. The template now has a translated string,
but I can't delete that translation (Rosetta refuses to delete it, I
don't know why):

https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/dapper/+source/gnome-panel/+pots
/gnome-panel-2.0/es_ES/+translate?alt=esshow=translated

It's the string #86.

Thanks a lot.

[Bug 47619] Re: nautilus sometimes crashes when opening new window

2006-06-01 Thread Rui Mesquita
Seems this bug still crops up on my system after a fresh install of the
final Dapper release, happened when calling my home folder from the
'places' menu.

I really don't know, if other people aren't getting this bug too, maybe
it's something with my hardware configuration or something I configured
or installed, though I haven't done much yet besides change the theme,
add a couple of app launchers to the panel, change the X configuration
and little more.

I have installed all the debug symbols I installed in Dapper Beta, and
will post the traceback here should nautilus crash again.

I will include now the list of packages I installed so far before this
bug happened again , just in case...

ps. This time even gedit crashed(!) when I was creating the file with
the installed packages list from Synaptic. Never happened to me
before...

[Bug 46150] Re: Panel hangs on login

2006-06-01 Thread Mark M Lambert
Okay, I ran Synaptic, completely removed the package deskbar-applet (this also
removed ubuntu-desktop). Then I logged out, reinstalled both packages from a
text console, logged back in to Gnome, added Deskbar to the panel, and
everything works fine now. I've logged out/in/restarted a few times to confirm
that it no longer hangs.
It is good to have it working, but now I will never be able to find out what
caused the app to hang in the first place. :(

[Bug 36145] Re: hyphenation does not work after upgrade from breezy to dapper

2006-06-01 Thread Benoît Turpin
I've used the MarkoNo5's tip, all was OK. I've just upgraded tex*

I found this solution :

sudo update-language
sudo fmtutil-sys --all

It's now OK.

The fix supposes user didn't do anything before ?

[Bug 47962] Ubuntu doesn't show correct owner/permissions on removable drive

2006-06-01 Thread Ross
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I bought a brand neew external maxtor hard drive, formatted it and had
it's path as /media/usbdisk-1. This was at first owned by root.root. I
manually changed this via the command line via the chown command. The
file/drive now belonged to me.

However when i click on the drive icon via the desktop or did a
properties on it, it showed the drive as locked and owned by root.root.
It also showed this in natuilus/file browser. I could write thing to the
drive it was just showing it as readonly/locked and with the wrong
permissions. I even tried disconnecting the drive and reconnecting. The
drive came back and via command line it showed the correct owner/group
but via nautilus i had no luck.

I actually had to log out of gnome and log back in to show the correct
permissions/owner.
