[Bug 77595] After mapping an action to delete key, original delete key operation is not restored once reverted
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 40747 *** Public bug reported: After accidentally pressing the delete key on an action in the gnome- keybinding-preferences dialog, I subsequently disabled that action so it was no longer mapped to any key. As a result of the initial mistake, my delete key no longer had it's usual delete character to the right behaviour. To reproduce, choose an action in the gnome-keybinding-preferences and press delete, then set the action to some other key. Now, checking 'xev', or 'xmodmap -pke' shows a blank keysym for keycode 107 (which should be Delete). After resetting this value using: xmodmap -e 'keycode 107 = Delete' the correct delete key behavior is restored. This bug is probably more the result of the Delete keysym not being represented in the preferences to allow it to be restored than that of it being unassigned as the result of a reverted mapping. ** Affects: control-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Medium Assignee: Ubuntu Desktop Bugs Status: Rejected -- After mapping an action to delete key, original delete key operation is not restored once reverted https://launchpad.net/bugs/77595 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 77590] gaim crashes on signoff when resuming from hibernate
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gaim Running on ubuntu and kubuntu dapper. Similar to bug #64809, but in my case signoff crashes the application, requiring a force quit. What I think causes the different behaviour is whether or not the network connection is the same. The problem is essentially this: If I'm at uni - with a fixed ip address - with gaim running, and then put my laptop into hibernation and come back the next day without using the laptop in between, the signoff-signon procedure works. If, however, I then go home and use it signing off crashes gaim and I need to force quit it. It used to be that if I used the laptop at home in consecutive sessions (with a hibernation in between) that I had no problem, but this afternoon the problem did appear. This could be because my router assigned a different ip address this time, or perhaps because I recently installed laptop-net. Either way it seem to have something to do with changing ip address. laptop-net will, of course, automatically disconnect and reconnect the ethernet link on bootup/resume, while ubuntu doesn't necessarily do this requiring a $sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart command to get connected. Incidentally, I use both msn and gmail messaging. ** Affects: gaim (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed ** Description changed: Binary package hint: gaim Running on ubuntu and kubuntu dapper. - Similar to bug #64809, but in my case signoff crashes the application, - requiring a force quit. [Bug 77443] Re-using rasterisations of unhinted glyphs is unsafe
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: libgtk2.0-0 Character geometries with unhinted fonts are inherently non-integer. When rendering a glyph, it seems a pre-rendered glyph is simply drawn into the text layout at an integer-rounded position calculated by the sum of the non-integer widths of previous characters in the layout. This gives the problem which can be observed in the attached screenshot. It seems that glyphs are unconditionally rendered with an anchoring at (0.0, 0.0) locked to the pixel grid. I can't think of a better way to demonstrate this other than to draw a diagram, but hopefully you understand what I mean. As far as I can see, there are two ways to deal with this. The first is to consider all glyphs, hinted or otherwise, to have integer widths. This keeps the re-usable rasterisations and relieves the problem of inconsistent character spacing. The second is to render glyphs on a case by case basis, with the pixel grid of the rasterisation process offset accordingly. I believe the second solution would give excellent quality font rendering, but is probably harder to achieve. [Bug 77401] rhythmbox manual shouldn't be in Rosetta
Public bug reported: The pot for the Rhythmbox manual is in Rosetta [1]. This is bad because translators might mistakenly think that translating this will result in the translation being imported into Ubuntu. In reality, there is no support (that I know of) for manuals to be included into Ubuntu, because the language-packs don't handle xml translations. The only way for these translations to be included is for the translation work to be done upstream. The Italian team is busily working on the translation and will forward the results upstream but other teams might not know this is necessary. I'm not sure of the reason for this bug, because I can't find the pot template in the source package. (For that reason, I'll open this bug on Rosetta and Rhythmbox, please tell me what is causing the bug). I think the ideal solution is to remove this template, and encourage upstream to use Rosetta for translation of manuals (since this will result in them getting more contribution in an area which I understand is lacking in translation work).
