[Bug 77709] tabs with flash crash ephy

2007-01-03 Thread David Prieto
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: epiphany

I'm using Epiphany 2.17.4 on Ubuntu Feisty, and when I close a tab
showing a playing video Epiphany hangs, and doesn't start until you go
to the system monitor and kill ephy from there.

Killing it by pushing the X button doesn't work, even after that Ephy
still shows at system monitor.

[Bug 77763] alacarte dies while editing existing shortcuts

2007-01-03 Thread vsridhars
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: alacarte

1. A given Menu Tree had 4 entries. (Geany,Notecase,Kompare,Textpad).
2. Edited notecase -- display-name and executablename : to knowit (since I had
removed notecase and installed knowit)
3. The OK button was not available. On clicking the Close button, changes did
not register
4. Went to Kompare shortcut - edited display name to compare and pressed ok.
That change got saved.

[Bug 77739] LCD brightness setting doesn't work with Sony Vaio VGN-S5M

2007-01-03 Thread LaurentAlmeras
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hal

LCD brightness setting doesn't work currently with hal in feisty and
dapper release.

It doesn't work because the scripts hal-system-lcd-{get,set}-brightness-
linux relies on acpi methods. But this computer doesn't support
brightness setting with acpi.

Some workaround are needed (like in the acpi package, see
/etc/acpi/sonybright.sh).

I have some scripts modifications I'll upload.

[Bug 77739] Re: LCD brightness setting doesn't work with Sony Vaio VGN-S5M

2007-01-03 Thread LaurentAlmeras
Here are :

- a hald fdi policy script
(/usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/20thirdparty/10-laptop-panel-mgmt-policy.fdi) which :
  * modifies the hal laptop_panel.num_levels property provided by buggy acpi
to replace it with 21 (the correct value for my computer)
  * changes the laptop_panel.access_method not to interfere with the others
sony systems.
These modifications are applied only for Sony CorporationVGN-S5M_S.

- patches for hal-system-lcd-{get,set}-brightness-linux (hal
0.5.8.1-4ubuntu1)

With these, all works fine on my computer using gnome-power-manager.

[Bug 77718] Rhythmbox crashes while playing ogg stream

2007-01-03 Thread John A Meinel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

I'm streaming ogg over a samba share from another machine.
The share is mounted to /media/music

While playing an ogg stream, the player plays for approximately 1
minute, and then hangs. My connection is still working (it is over the
local network). I tried to switch to another file, and the window would
respond to pause and change of selection, but the sound would not play,
and no actual effect could be discerned before it crashed and prompted
me to submit a bug.

I have the gstreamer-ugly and gstreamer-ugly-multiverse plugin packages
installed to play mp3 files, but I do not have the -bad ones installed.

I will attach the crash report.

[Bug 77676] GDM gives wrong message using XDMCP

2007-01-03 Thread GK Bloemsma
Public bug reported:

Computer A is setup in such a way that a user will be automaticly logged in in
100 seconds.
Now, when on computer B a connection via XDMCP is made, the text: ... is being
logged in in ... seconds appears.
I do think this text should not appear when trying to connect via XDMCP.

[Bug 77655] Serpentine 0.6.91-0ubuntu4 Write to Disc doesn't work

2007-01-03 Thread mseney
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: serpentine

I am using Edgy with Serpentine 0.6.91-0ubuntu and the Write to Disc
button doesn't work. I have tried re-installing the package, running it
with sudo, and nothing works. Finally I found a guide on how to make a
.deb package from the source code and so obtained version 0.7-1 from
http://developer.berlios.de/projects/serpentine and built the package
and installed it. Now the Write to Disc button works. Just submitting
this bug so it can be fixed automatically by using update manager for

[Bug 77595] After mapping an action to delete key, original delete key operation is not restored once reverted

2007-01-03 Thread Rog
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 40747 ***

Public bug reported:

After accidentally pressing the delete key on an action in the gnome-
keybinding-preferences dialog, I subsequently disabled that action so it
was no longer mapped to any key. As a result of the initial mistake, my
delete key no longer had it's usual delete character to the right
behaviour.

To reproduce, choose an action in the gnome-keybinding-preferences and press
delete, then set the action to some other key. Now, checking 'xev', or
'xmodmap -pke' shows a blank keysym for keycode 107 (which should be Delete).
 After resetting this value using:
xmodmap -e 'keycode 107 = Delete'
the correct delete key behavior is restored.

This bug is probably more the result of the Delete keysym not being
represented in the preferences to allow it to be restored than that of
it being unassigned as the result of a reverted mapping.

[Bug 77590] gaim crashes on signoff when resuming from hibernate

2007-01-03 Thread Malek Ghantous
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gaim

Running on ubuntu and kubuntu dapper.

Similar to bug #64809, but in my case signoff crashes the application,
requiring a force quit. What I think causes the different behaviour is whether
or not the network connection is the same. The problem is essentially this:
If I'm at uni - with a fixed ip address - with gaim running, and then put my
laptop into hibernation and come back the next day without using the laptop in
between, the signoff-signon procedure works. If, however, I then go home and
use it signing off crashes gaim and I need to force quit it. It used to be
that if I used the laptop at home in consecutive sessions (with a hibernation
in between) that I had no problem, but this afternoon the problem did appear.
This could be because my router assigned a different ip address this time, or
perhaps because I recently installed laptop-net. Either way it seem to have
something to do with changing ip address. laptop-net will, of course,
automatically disconnect and reconnect the ethernet link on bootup/resume,
while ubuntu doesn't necessarily do this requiring a $sudo
/etc/init.d/networking restart command to get connected.

Incidentally, I use both msn and gmail messaging.

[Bug 77516] Orientation tag not removed

2007-01-03 Thread Fridtjof Busse
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-volume-manager

gnome-volume-manager-gthumb rotates imported images by default (seems to be no
way to stop that), but doesn't remove the orientation tag.
This causes at least two problems:
1. If I have a folder with unrotated images (import via cardreader) and rotated
images (import via Gnome), they both have an orientation-header and I cannot
rotate them automatically (e.g. with jhead).
2. And some image-viewers will rotate the image according to the orientation
header, thus they're being unrotated.
This is most annoying.

[Bug 77452] Deskbar-Applet instructions for enabling Google live search are out of date

2007-01-03 Thread no_treble
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: deskbar-applet

Using Ubuntu Dapper.

The deskbar-applet's instructions on activating Google live search are
incorrect. The instructions below were obtained by doing the following:
Right-click on Deskbar's magifying glass, choose Preferences, scroll down and
highlight Google Search, Click More.
-
Setting Up Google Live

You need a Google account to use Google Live. To get one, go to
http://api.google.com/

When you have created your account, you should recieve a Google API key
by mail. Place this key in the file

~/.gnome2/deskbar-applet/Google.key

If you do not receive an API key (or you have lost it) in your account
verification mail, then go to www.google.com/accounts and log in. Go to
api.google.com, click Create Account and enter your e-mail address and
password. Your API key will be re-sent.

Now download the developers kit and extract the GoogleSearch.wsdl file
from it. Copy this file to

~/.gnome2/deskbar-applet/GoogleSearch.wsdl
--

Suggested changes to instructions based on how I found what I needed to
get the Google live search working:

You need a Google account to use Google Live. To get one, go to
http://www.google.com/accounts.

When you have created your account, go to
http://code.google.com/apis/base/signup.html to sign up for the Google
API key. For the question, For what kind of applications do you need a
key?, Choose Installed Applications.

After clicking Sign me up you should be redirected to a page
displaying your Google API key. Place this key in the file:

~/.gnome2/deskbar-applet/Google.key

Now download the GoogleSearch.wsdl file with wget:
wget http://api.google.com/GoogleSearch.wsdl Or point your browser to
http://api.google.com/GoogleSearch.wsdl then right-click on the page and choose
Save Page As...

Save this file to:

~/.gnome2/deskbar-applet/GoogleSearch.wsdl

[Bug 77452] Re: Deskbar-Applet instructions for enabling Google live search are out of date

2007-01-03 Thread Jacob Peddicord
The entire Google live search method in the Deskbar is now defunct; as
Google discontinued the API key signups. The link you posted was for a
Google Base search service; which does not include Google Web search
results. Google Base is a search service for selling and listing
products.

The SOAP API Google provided for the deskbar applet was replaced with a
new AJAX API, which is incompatible with the applet. Essentially, the
functionality in the deskbar may never come back.

Well I sat down with the hal 0.5.9 source and tried to figure out how it
works...

in sound_add in device.c the alsa sound properties only get added if the
device has a parent. But HAL can't find a parent for my devices like
/sys/class/sound/pcmC0D0p etc... so it doesn't register them.

[Bug 77443] Re-using rasterisations of unhinted glyphs is unsafe

2007-01-03 Thread Alex Jones
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libgtk2.0-0

Character geometries with unhinted fonts are inherently non-integer.
When rendering a glyph, it seems a pre-rendered glyph is simply drawn
into the text layout at an integer-rounded position calculated by the
sum of the non-integer widths of previous characters in the layout. This
gives the problem which can be observed in the attached screenshot.

It seems that glyphs are unconditionally rendered with an anchoring at
(0.0, 0.0) locked to the pixel grid. I can't think of a better way to
demonstrate this other than to draw a diagram, but hopefully you
understand what I mean.

As far as I can see, there are two ways to deal with this.

The first is to consider all glyphs, hinted or otherwise, to have
integer widths. This keeps the re-usable rasterisations and relieves the
problem of inconsistent character spacing.

The second is to render glyphs on a case by case basis, with the pixel
grid of the rasterisation process offset accordingly.

I believe the second solution would give excellent quality font
rendering, but is probably harder to achieve.

Thanks

[Bug 77401] rhythmbox manual shouldn't be in Rosetta

2007-01-03 Thread Matthew East
Public bug reported:

The pot for the Rhythmbox manual is in Rosetta [1]. This is bad because
translators might mistakenly think that translating this will result in
the translation being imported into Ubuntu. In reality, there is no
support (that I know of) for manuals to be included into Ubuntu, because
the language-packs don't handle xml translations.

The only way for these translations to be included is for the
translation work to be done upstream. The Italian team is busily working
on the translation and will forward the results upstream but other teams
might not know this is necessary.

I'm not sure of the reason for this bug, because I can't find the pot
template in the source package. (For that reason, I'll open this bug on
Rosetta and Rhythmbox, please tell me what is causing the bug).

I think the ideal solution is to remove this template, and encourage
upstream to use Rosetta for translation of manuals (since this will
result in them getting more contribution in an area which I understand
is lacking in translation work).

2007-01-03 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for your bug. The bug is not really useful like that, could
you describe what is happening, the version of Ubuntu you are using, get
a crash file and attach it to the bug?

[Bug 77385] Sudoku crashes when exiting

2007-01-03 Thread Andrew Conkling
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-games

I'm running gnome-games on Ubuntu Feisty.

This one has happened to me twice, same bug information.

I play a round of Sudoku and when it's done am so impressed with my
score (OK, not really) that I decide to close it (using the X on the
title bar, FWIW), while on the difficulty level for the next game.
Sudoku disappears, but my CPU is still churning away and a few seconds
later, I get the crash report window.

My crash report follows. Let me know if more info would be helpful in
any way.

[Bug 77347] editted CD track info is not retained

2007-01-03 Thread Alex Mauer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

If a CD is inserted and the CD's track info is edited, those local
changes are not retained between sessions. Ejecting and re-inserting
the CD will cause a new lookup from FreeDB, and the user's local changes
to be lost. Presumably they're actually lost when the CD is ejected.

[Bug 77345] Re: RB should use MusicBrainz for CD track listing lookups

2007-01-03 Thread Mike Benjamin
Thanks for your report. Your idea might get more attention and have
the possibility of being implemented if you would submit a
specification for this.

You should first check whether it already exists at the Ubuntu specs
page (https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+specs) in Launchpad. If
that is the case, feel free to contact the drafter of that spec about
your comments/suggestions. Otherwise you can start writing a spec
following the steps described in
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FeatureSpecifications.

[Bug 77345] RB should use MusicBrainz for CD track listing lookups

2007-01-03 Thread Alex Mauer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Currently Sound-Juicer uses MusicBrainz to do its CD track listing
queries and submissions, while Rhythmbox uses FreeDB for its track
listing queries. Perhaps they should both reference the same code path
(in a library?) to decide whether to use Musicbrainz or FreeDB/CDDB.

[Bug 77344] rhythmbox and Sound-juicer duplicate functionality

2007-01-03 Thread Alex Mauer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

As of version 0.9.7, rhythmbox does the same CD ripping function that
sound-juicer does. This is duplicated functionality.

Personally, I have no problem with Rhythmbox doing my CD ripping, but I
must admit that it's not the first place I'd look if I wanted to convert
a CD to some other format.

Perhaps RB should either call out to SJ for its ripping, or the menu
entry for RB should provide some indication that it also does CD
ripping.
