[Bug 118455] Volume control quick mute

2007-06-03 Thread LKRaider
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-media

This is an usability/wishlist request:
for the volume applet, quick muting and unmuting should be possible using the
middle mouse button click.

The middle mouse click is currently not associated with any action in the
applet.
I believe this would be an usability improvement to associate it with the
mute/unmute action.

[Bug 109760] Top and Bottom Screen Panels Stopped Working Properly in Ubuntu Feisty

2007-06-03 Thread Ohbother01
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Help! I'm experiencing a major UI problem that's making my work in
Ubuntu very difficult. I've recently upgraded to Ubuntu Feisty 7.04.
Initially, the top and bottom panels worked properly. But today, I'm
getting these strange and very annoying behaviors:

1. Top panel disappears when launching any application. It's not auto-
hiding -- there is no way to bring it back by hovering the mouse pointer
at the very top of the screen. (Even setting it to auto-hide does not
fix the problem -- once an application launches, the top panel is gone,
and again, no mouse action can bring it back.) The only solution is to
close all open applications.

2. Bottom panel either vanishes, or it is displayed, but in any event,
it does not show the names of the running applications any longer.

3. View Desktop button on the bottom panel produces an error message,
claiming that this feature is not enabled.

4. Switch Workplaces applet is not displayed on the bottom panel at all.

5. There are no more frames around the applications that are running. I
cannot maximize, minimize, move them or change their sizes in any way.

:-(

Notes:

During the upgrade to Feisty, the system had shut itself off (probably
because I had set it to automatically shut down after 1 hour of
inactivity -- I had not expected the system to think that an upgrade in
progress = inactivity).   :-(

After turning the computer back on, I re-started the updater application
manually, and it seemed to complete the update OK.

After the upgrade, Feisty immediately recommended downloading and
installing a closed-source video driver, which I let it do (I would look
up the exact video driver, but I cannot switch away from Firefox due to
the problems above).

The panels then worked OK for a while, but then they just stopped
working properly today.

Disabling automatic saving of session information on exit does not help.
The above problems persist after rebooting.

Switching the Theme back to Human (default) also does not solve the
problem.

Thanks in advance for your help.

[Bug 112013] Fonts not visible for GTK applications

2007-06-03 Thread Amit Shah
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I was running Edgy and have recently upgraded to Feisty. This problem
was in Edgy as well.

Fonts aren't rendered for any GTK apps in Kubuntu. I have tried with
audacity and ardour as examples. openoffice.org shows up properly, but
that could be due to the QT interface. The icons in openoffice.org
aren't in proper colours, though. They're all against a green
background.

I'll attach images to this BR.

This could possibly have happened after the font path change from
/usr/share/X11/fonts to /usr/X11/share/fonts. However, changing the
entries in xorg.conf didn't help.

There's nothing interesting in /var/log/X11.0.log

An application is preventing the volume from beeing unmounted.

2nd
A completely empty MessageBox. (only sometimes empty)
Cannot eject volume.

3rd
Just a Red sign - Empty. (this MessageBox is always empty!)

[Bug 117180] Re: Encoding is deprecated

2007-06-03 Thread Emmet Hikory
Thank you for the continued work to improve desktop-file-validate. This
patch applies cleanly, and seems to do many of the right things, but the
resulting package does not compile for me. Separately, a few notes:

1) Line 741 of the resulting file compresses an else statement to a
single line. Is there a strong reason for this? The typical GNOME
practice is to use a separate line excepting when using an else if
construction.

2) You probably don't need the definition of fix_encoding around line
924

[Bug 115422] Filter Selection doesn't select properly in Open With in Feisty

2007-06-03 Thread João Luzio
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

The Gnome interface on Ubuntu Feisty allows to open a file with a application,
on that screen it allows to filter existing applications.
It somehow doesn't filter using the display name on some of the applications
present, for example the Text Editor.

To reproduce:
- Choose a file on the file browser.
- Choose Open with another application or such.
- On the Open With screen type 'Text Editor' to try to choose the 'Text
Editor' entry.

Some of the entries respond to another name that is not the display text on the
Open With application list.
For example, Text Editor responds to 'accessories-text-editor'.

[Bug 118495] Session does not persist after reboot

2007-06-03 Thread Nano
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Basically sessions do not get persisted hence any changes are lost after reboot.
Example:
I've added Beryl Manager, Gaim and Firestarter to:

System - Preferences - Sessions [Startup Programs]

so I don't have to launch them manually every time I log into the
system.

In the [Session Options] Tab, I've pressed the button labeled Save the
current session, and also the check box that reads Automatically save
changes to session is already selected.

Now if I reboot the system or log off, I've lost those changes.

[Bug 118518] new computer session steps seen as new system download step

2007-06-03 Thread Laurie Kirk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: yelp

I returned to the computer to add this info: re: system interference: Five
years ago I tried to turn in a man who reportedly was a large-scale cocaine
dealer to Wilmington, NC police. Only name I could remember was 'Cotton' who
drove a green Jaguar and a big motorcycle. At the time he was dating the woman
who was one of the owners of The Rusty Nail, a local bar, the main spot for
local Blues and other local music folks; featured open mic sessions. When I
told police I said 'Cotton Nichols': WRONG!!! 'cOTTON nICHOLS was the name of
the Dallas County Alabama Sherrif who I think was a big white redneck guy.
blacks-oppressor in the Civil Rights era...footage of dogs and
billyclubs...stuff Selma, Alabama was the cliche for. Might be the cops thought
I was just making fun of them. The cocaine dealer was 'Cotton someone else. I
only knew him by sight and reputation.
I know by huge commentary might be tiresome. Sorry. Just trying to figure out
who all hates me. Looks like the numbers are legion.

[Bug 82898] Re: please drop gnome-power-manager dependency

2007-06-03 Thread Peter Clifton
Doesn't this cause lockups with the logout dialog if g-p-m is missing?

I've just spent some time chasing a bug (which I'm about to file) where
my logout dialog hangs X11 (with a screen-shot its about to fade) for
about 50 seconds whilst it tries to find g-p-m on its old DBUS name.
(Gutsy). The new g-p-m has a different DBUS-path, so that needs
changing.

I'm going to file a bug against gnome-session regarding the change of
path in g-p-m, and hopefully just add my other bug as a comment here:

gnome-session should not hang trying to communicate with g-p-m !!

PS - from the app (gnome-session-save)'s point of view, the hangup is
seen whilst accessing /tmp/.ICE-unix/{session_manager_pid}. A strace of
gnome-session identifies the real hangup.

[Bug 118495] Re: Session does not persist after reboot

2007-06-03 Thread Nano
Thanks for your help!

It's indeed about the permissions/ownership:

$ touch ~/.config/autostart/test
touch: cannot touch `/home/nano/.config/autostart/test': Permission denied

$ ls -lah ~/.config/autostart
total 12K
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4.0K 2007-05-29 18:21 .
drwx-- 6 nano nano 4.0K 2007-05-31 05:49 ..
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 108 2007-05-29 18:21 beagled.desktop

Quite strange though, mmm, maybe that Beagle installation somewhat messed the
permissions there.
I think I've installed it using Automatix, so I'll report with them too, and of
course now that you helped me identifying the problem I'll chmod/chown that
directory and try again using the interface.

So again thanks much mein freund +1 karma for you!

[Bug 118537] hang in gnome-session upon logout with gnome-power-manager 2.19.2-0ubuntu4

2007-06-03 Thread Peter Clifton
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-session

In Gutsy, with the latest update to gnome-power-manager 2.19, the DBUS
name which g-p-m can be accessed has changed. The following diff fixes a
long (nearly a minute) hang before the logout window appears with the
new g-p-m.

We should really ensure that the absence of g-p-m does not cause this
hang anyway!

[Bug 118535] Re: want to delete user's name from roster and to enable powers for another user. Options not usable

2007-06-03 Thread Laurie Kirk
Attempt to hide myself...as mcarter. Another STRONG possibility for
attacker identity: Jim Lea, attorney handling my divorce maintained he
could not ask for alimony because I'd had sex with someone other than my
husband during the three-year period in which we were separated. I've
made public complaints to police department asserting my father-in-law
paid him a lot more than I did. Man's scared I'll report him to NC Bar
Association. Just a possibility in the long list of folks that wish I'd
shut my mouth. So I'm trying to create a decoy identity: new name, new
sites to bookmark, new computer name. But I can't change the roster of
computer users or alter the user-group information under System
Administration.

2007-06-03 Thread Laurie Kirk
dON't flash comments up on the screen. They seem to see everything I do.
Could they be right near me physically, next door? Devices attached to
the computer? Somebody wants me to shutup real badly. They've tried to
poison my dog...foound a gallon of antifreeze thrown out right next to
the house. Can you get law enforcement help? Last night I called 911
three times. They're very understanding but I don't know what to do.
Nothing I have or you all have tried has been successful. Must be
somebody with something physically overseeing this computer

[Bug 12153] Re: Cannot use Windows key in keyboard shortcuts

2007-06-03 Thread Aaron C. de Bruyn
I have done a completely fresh install of Feisty on my laptop. (Compaq Presario
2100)
In keyboard preferences I set the keyboard model to Laptop/notebook Compaq
(eg. Presario) Internet Keyboard
On the layout options tab I set the Alt/Win key behavior to Super is mapped
to the win-keys (default)

If I go into Keyboard Shortcuts I can assign shortcuts based on the windows key.
For example Win+L to lock the screen and Win+T to open a terminal window.
They assign as Mod4+L and Mod4+T respectively.

If I hit Win+L, the screen doesn't lock. Nothing happens.
If I hit Win+T, I get a new terminal window.

Could a lot of people in this thread be talking about a similar issue. Trying
to get Win+L to lock their screen?
What would cause the keyboard shortcuts to work for everything else, but not
locking the screen?

[Bug 118579] Re: Unable to receive mail

2007-06-03 Thread Caspar Clemens Mierau
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug. Unfortunately we can't
fix it, because your description didn't include enough information. You
may find it helpful to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the
problem.

We need e.g. information about what type of mail server protocoll you
are using (pop3, imap, exchange), if you tried it with another mail
client (e.g. thunderbird) and so on.

Thanks for your help.

[Bug 96267] gecko/epiphany crash [EMAIL PROTECTED]::ReflowFloat] [EMAIL PROTECTED]::FlowAndPlaceFloat] [EMAIL PROTECTED]::AddFloat]

2007-06-03 Thread Yann Simon
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: epiphany-browser

I had mutiple tabs open.

I was on this page:
http://www.stadtplandienst.de/map.asp?sid=2a83af6c314503747558c8890acab0c2amp;ix=249amp;iy=1013amp;grid=dedatlas10
I asked for a print preview.

And epiphany crashed.

When I re-open epiphany and re-asked for a print preview (same page as
epiphany re-opened all my tabs), everything was ok.

Re: [Bug 118223] Re: workspace switcher applet

2007-06-03 Thread Babar
Hello Sebastien

Well by 3D Desktop I mean going to system - preference - Desktop
effects - enable desktop effects. This either changes the total no of
workspaces I have or it changes the way workspace switcher applet is
displayed. For example in the screenshot attached you can see that its
showing my desktops in 4 rows.

Feel free to contact me if its not clear.

Regards,
Babar

Thank you for your bug. What do you call 3D desktop? Could you make a

[Bug 118600] Network connection says wrong thing.

2007-06-03 Thread adam93250
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

The network icon in the top corner of the screen says 'Wired Connection' but my
computer does not have a wired connection active.
When i click the Icon it shows both 'Wired Connection' and my Wireless Network
as active.

Its not a major problem as i can still access the internet, but i cannot
see the 'Wireless Strength Meter'.
