[Bug 153502] Re: rhythmbox fails to import files with spaces.
for completeness's sake, the above file does exist: ~/Music$ ls 311/From\ Chaos/32\ Amber.mp3 311/From Chaos/32 Amber.mp3 And the 6 files that did import successfully happen to not have any spaces anywhere in the path or the file name. -- rhythmbox fails to import files with spaces. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/153502 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for rhythmbox in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 153502] rhythmbox fails to import files with spaces.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: rhythmbox Gutsy, Rhythmbox 0.11.2, Gnome desktop, fresh install, all updates. I went to reinstall my wifes computer (got rid of windows partition), so I backed up her old home directory including her music collection, tarred it up, and copied it a different server. She had been running feisty and using amarok to copy music to her ipod. I proceeded to install gutsy on her computer from scratch. I untarred her music collection into her new home 'Music' directory under gutsy, and I fired up rhythmbox to see if it would import the files fine (and thus she can stop using amarok), and after I checked the 'Watch for new files' option, I was greeted with only 6 songs, and 6178 import errors. Every file and directory that has a space in the name (or directory) produced a line like this: Couldn't access : file:///home/katy/Music/311/From%20Chaos/32%20Amber.mp3: File not found. Obviously, it seems it's taken the %20 a little too seriously :) A regular 'ls' on the directory seems to show spaces, and Rhythmbox appearently got it right at least at some point because it saw the file was there to begin with. This is kindav a big bug, as it makes rhythmbox completely useless for me at least, and I suspect quite a few others if you really can't import an existing directory tree with spaces in the filenames. ** Affects: rhythmbox (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- rhythmbox fails to import files with spaces. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/153502 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for rhythmbox in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Very frustrating, particularly as another member of my family has experienced the exact same problem with Evolution and webmail.us on 3 occasions. Will send log file to upstream bug report as well.
