Looks like there will be a workaround on syncevolution side soonish. Once that happens, this bug can be closed. I confirm this for czech+english, also linked dup #152622 with the same issue for italian+english. To summarize: if english (us, in my case; but for en_GB as well based on above comment) if secondary keyboard, the \| key behaves as on the PRIMARY (non-english) keyboard, giving respectively ù, ç and dead umlaut accent for italian (#152622), spanish (above), czech (here); with shift, it is Ç for spanish and ' (apostrophe) for czech. I reproduced this for French and Greman as well. Workaround is to swap layout order, making english primary. It seems that english keyboard definition forgets to redefine the |\ key. Here's one I'm having this problem with. I downloaded the original some while back under Feisty - no problems with it, and I have a printed copy that's OK. This has the advantage of providing timestamped, automatically rotated logs. While I can modify the /etc/X11/Xsession script to leave my fifo alone, gdm itself seems to replace it with a plain file no matter what I do. Maybe gdm could be patched to only create/truncate the .xsession-errors file if it doesn't exist or is a plain file? Surely, users who create a fifo there can be assumed to know what they are doing (and thus to know where to look if gdm blocks on trying to write to the fifo). Thanks for your response. My gut feeling is yours may be a different bug than mine, as apparently your screensaver was up and running and you have a different vid card. I am a newbie to Linux, and my installation of Ubuntu is only one week old. I fixed my printer by downloading a driver from a website, since obviously, my printer software was not written for Linux. Since there seems to be others on the message board with a similar problem to mine, ( with the Radeon card) I suspect it is the driver. I brought up my Ubuntu device manager ( on the toolbar:system\administration\device manager) and it seems it is not recognising the ATI Radeon vid card. I went to the ATI/Radeon site, downloaded the driver for my vid card, and downloaded it to my desktop. I rebooted, tried to load the screensaver, and it (the screensaver) locked everything up causing me to uplug and reboot again. After rebooting, I tried to mouseclick the file for driver installation ( I had assumed it installed itself on the previous attempt) and it would not open. After a little websurfing, I went to here : http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Ubuntu_Dapper_Installation_Guide Indeed, they had some Linux drivers here for whatever. It requires you to enable the restricted depository before downloading. They had a lot of info for me to digest on the Radeon card. Looks like it might be a shell fix, for which I have no experiance, but doesn't look to hard. Probably can just cut and paste it in. I have run out of time for computer-playing-around, and will try to do more on it tonight. Again, I appreciate your response, and would like to know if you would be interested in sharing knowledge on Linux --- it would be nice to have someone to bounce ideas off of. As far as I could tell this wasn't fixed in Gutsy official release (using KDE). The strange thing was that on initial login, there were no problems, but a re-login caused the (quick-loading?) windows like wallet manager to stack under the desktop. I also observed strange behaveour for viewport 1: it didn't accept the middle-mouse button for cube rotation, as configured (and also middle mouse button scrolling didn't rotate the cube, as configured). Instead of cube rotation, I got a list of open windows for this desktop. Choosing one brought the windows in front and the kicker as well. Clicking on the window titlebar made it disappear like reported before. Pedro, thanks for your verification and response. My report is not a comment. It is a bug that you can't remove the partition from the list. There is an option listed in the places menu, and the user can't mount/umount, read, or access this option. And you can't remove it. That is a BUG. The user can see the option, but can't do anything with it, it confuses the user. And the administrator can't do anything about it because there is no configuration, gconf key, anything that changes this behavior. The expected behavior would be: * List only partitions that the user can mount/umount. The behavior observed right now is: List all mounted partitions including ones inacessible to the user. That difference between expected and observed behavior proves this is not just a difficulty I am facing. This is a legitimate bug instead and should be treated as such.
