[Bug 195788] Re: Evolution 2.21.92 (hardy) crashes when attaching MS-Office files
well, well, well... it ends up being indeed related to mime-types (as you suggested in the beginning). Still, methinks Evo should not fail if mime-types are not correctly set. I am not sure about needing to change /etc/mime.types -- theoretically, this would affect CUPS only... but this is just theoretical :-) Digging into it. -- Evolution 2.21.92 (hardy) crashes when attaching MS-Office files https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/195788 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 199052] [NEW] rhythmbox crashed with SIGSEGV in g_hash_table_foreach()
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: rhythmbox I am currently checking the test cases on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/Cases/UbuntuDesktop with an installation of Hardy Alternate 20080306.1 and spotted some problems with Rhythmbox. As suggested on the test case page I tried to listen to the default internet radio stations, the first three of them didn't work and a dialog saying Playback could not be started - Unknown playback error was shown. The last station (Classic rock) worked fine (see attached screenshot below). After a short period of listening I quit Rhythmbox and decided to restart it a few seconds later. Then the apport crash dialog popped up on which this bug report is based on. Nevertheless Rhythmbox seemed to have startet normally, but when I tried to go to the radio stations again they all had dissappeared to my surprise. Restarting Rhythmbox didn't help, they remained vanished. Playback of normal files like Ubuntu sax worked as usual, though. [Bug 195788] Re: Evolution 2.21.92 (hardy) crashes when attaching MS-Office files
Hi hggdh, I agree with you. If we create (or receive) a new file, for example, with a new mime-type and an unknown extension, we should be able to mail it anyway. I think any patch should be in the sense of not crashing if mime-type is not recognized. One other thing I would like to understand was how mime-types got misconfigured on my system anyway... I found out ~/.mime.types was irrelevant. Removing and fixing this file did not solved the issue. It is created by CrossOver Office but CXOffice work without it anyway. Not having this file makes no difference as far as I can see. And /etc/mime- types and /usr/share/mime.cache need root privileges to be changed. [Bug 199014] Re: python-xml removal: please drop/replace (build) dependencies
I should have an eric upload to do next week. I'll deal with this at the same time. ** Changed in: eric (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Medium Assignee: (unassigned) = Scott Kitterman (kitterman) Status: New = In Progress ** Description changed: Debian is working to remove python-xml before the lenny release. If would be good if Ubuntu could manage the same for Hardy. Since some time a subset of python-xml is included in the standard python library, while the python-xml package did not see any updates for years. It is time to drop it from the distribution. Update scenarios: - Just drop the (build) dependency, if the functionality is included in python. (Build)-depend on python (= 2.4). - Copy missing code in the std library from the python-xml package. (e.g. for some installer packages: localechoose). - Use another xml library (python-4suite-xml, python-lxml). This has been the subject of a recent mass bug filing in Debian, so in many cases it's just a question of syncing an updated package from Debian. See http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?tag=python-xml- removal;[EMAIL PROTECTED] for the Debian bugs and their status. - - affects ubuntu/ tinyerp-server - affects ubuntu/elisa - affects ubuntu/xen-3.2 - affects ubuntu/skencil - affects ubuntu/serpentine - affects ubuntu/revelation - affects ubuntu/qm - affects ubuntu/schooltool - affects ubuntu/zsi - affects ubuntu/wxwidgets2.6 - affects ubuntu/wxwidgets2.8 - affects ubuntu/mmpython - affects ubuntu/ll-xist - affects ubuntu/kaa-base - affects ubuntu/html5lib - affects ubuntu/genshi - affects ubuntu/python-davlib - affects ubuntu/pyslide - affects ubuntu/pyragua - affects ubuntu/pypar2 - affects ubuntu/penguintv - affects ubuntu/libopensync-plugin-google-calendar - affects ubuntu/opendict - affects ubuntu/mnemosyne - affects ubuntu/memaid-pyqt - affects ubuntu/imgseek - affects ubuntu/hotwire - affects ubuntu/gnomecatalog - affects ubuntu/gdesklets - affects ubuntu/gdeskcal - affects ubuntu/fonttools - affects ubuntu/eric - affects ubuntu/emesene - affects ubuntu/conduit - affects ubuntu/python-reportlab - affects ubuntu/gst-plugins-base0.10 - affects ubuntu/gst-plugins-good0.10 - affects ubuntu/gstreamer0.10 - affects ubuntu/gramps - affects ubuntu/gst-plugins-bad0.10 - affects ubuntu/gst-plugins-ugly0.10 - affects ubuntu/liquidwar - affects ubuntu/livemix - affects ubuntu/thuban -- python-xml removal: please drop/replace (build) dependencies https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/199014 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gst-plugins-base0.10 in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 195788] Re: Evolution 2.21.92 (hardy) crashes when attaching MS-Office files
/etc/mime.types is used only by CUPS (printing subsystem on Linux). Evo, Nautilus, etc, use pretty much what is under /usr/share/mime -- the cache file there is created/updated by the package install (shared-mime- info), or by specific updates. One option is somehow an update failed. You can try to pinpoint it by looking at the /var/log/apt/* and /var/log/dpkg* log files. Looking on mine I can see an update on shared-mime-info done on Feb 18, for example. mchra is going to commit the patch after the current freeze, so Evo will survive if an unknown mime type is used. With this patch, what would happen is you will get a mime type of unknown/whatever (huh, not real names), but would still succeed on the attach. [Bug 198742] Re: [evolution] [CVE-2008-0072] format string error, possible arbitrary code execution

Will mark as fix commited as soon as upstream has it on SVN. ** Changed in: evolution (Ubuntu) Importance: Critical = High ** This bug is no longer flagged as a security issue -- [evolution] [CVE-2008-0072] format string error, possible arbitrary code execution https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/198742 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 183232] Re: NO RSS FEEDS CONFIGURED
Solved -- What no one is saying ANYWHERE that I can find, is that the RSS plugin is turned on. If you don't want to be forced to subscribe to an RSS feed - Turn it off. Thanks to someone complaining loud enough about so many plugins being turned on by default. That post caught my eye and I checked my plugin list. (Yes, I downloaded them all) The replys to their problem didn't even explain that to them... they can't default on if they're not installed. Anyway Thejaswi, thanks for the post, it got me scanning the forum again.
