[Bug 132992] Re: [gutsy] rhythmbox cannot load UPnP plugin: python-louie package missing

2008-03-08 Thread psernetz
I've done a complete reinstall of Hardy Alpha 6 and all the plugins are
installed automatically. When I try to activate the Upnp plugin in
still says failed. I think this is not a good behavior. You're
presenting a clean installation which fails to work in some parts.
You've got two choices, don't install the upnp plugin automatically or
install python-louie (which is in hardys repos).

I can confirm this bug. It appears to be specific to Wichita-McConnell
AFB (e.g. it doesn't occur with Ithaca). I am filing a bug in GNOME and
will link it.

William: Somewhat confusingly, the clock applet is inside gnome-panel,
I'm marking as such. Thanks for the bug report.

[Bug 199756] Re: Clock Applet crashes GNOME when trying to add Wichita-McConnell AFB to locations

2008-03-08 Thread kripkenstein
Sadly what appears to be a Launchpad bug is stopping me from setting the
external bug watch. Either that or I can't figure out how to do it. It
keeps telling me adding a bug watch to ubuntu is not possible, and
this is already a bug in gnome-panel. When all I want is to add the
link to the GNOME bugzilla.

[Bug 193232] Re: Remote Samba shares not showing up in Nautilus through network:///

2008-03-08 Thread drose
I have the same or at least similar problem : I use Nautilus to browse a
WindowsXP share. The UbuntuServer and the WindowsXP-Laptop are shown in
Nautilus. But when i open the WindowsXP then no shared directories are
displayed. It looks like the WindowsXP has not shared any ressource. But
i can browse them by using an other Windows-PC.

I am using HARDY Alpha 6 with latest updates (8th. of march 2008). The
WindowsXP-Laptop has a (ADP?) domain account as well as a local account.

I don´t know how to use the command line client to find more information
about the problem.

[Bug 199756] Re: Clock Applet crashes GNOME when trying to add Wichita-McConnell AFB to locations

2008-03-08 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.
If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 199756] Re: Clock Applet crashes GNOME when trying to add Wichita-McConnell AFB to locations

2008-03-08 Thread kripkenstein
Sebastian,

The word crash in the title may be misleading, I think. The precise
symptom is that gnome panel and all its applets disappear, then reappear
(and the new location is not added). There is no crash report in
/var/crash. The automatic bug reporting tool is also not run. So I am
not sure this is a crash, or otherwise, if it is then no crash report is
generated. (The problem is consistently reproducible, however, crash or
not.)

If there is another way to check whether this is indeed a crash, and to
get a crash report, please let me know, I am baffled so far.

[Bug 199782] [NEW] no feedback from ctrl-l after fullscreen

2008-03-08 Thread Niels Giesen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

(undocumented feature) Control-L selects the PageSelector widget.

When starting up evince in normal mode, this action gives feedback by
highlighting the displayed number. In fullscreen-mode this works too.
But when you then leave fullscreen mode, ctrl-l does select the widget
(and the text within) but does not highlight the number. Btw, going back
to fullscreen mode does however give feedback.

Steps to Reproduce:

Start up evince. Press F11 twice. Press Control-l

Evince version: GNOME evince 2.20.1
Using package from Ubuntu 7.10

Regards,

Niels

[Bug 161787] Re: Gnome Sound Preferences help refers to a system bell, but it's called system beep.

2008-03-08 Thread ptoye
Err... as a newbie to Ubuntu who wants to use the sound card, the lack
of accurate documentation is a real turn-off.

As well as the change from bell to beep (which is pretty trivial),
there's also the issue of the completely new user interface on the
general tab. A lot of the fields are not exactly self-explanatory (at
least to a newbie).

To be honest, assigning a low priority to documentation is self-
defeating. Linux will never take off until this casual attitude is
changed. Yes, I know that MS documentation help files are equally
badly maintained, but there's so much larger a user base that bulletin
boards help sites quickly fill up with fixes. And then there are books
like Windows xxx Annoyances which help (albeit a year too late given
the publication cycle). Linux appears to have none of this, only a
community which, as soon as a difficult question is asked, goes
rapidly silent.

[Bug 199245] [NEW] gnome-settings-daemon crash opening any window: BadWindow X error under Xvnc

2008-03-08 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon

- System: Hardy 32-bit, x86 Dell server hardware. Fully updated packages as of
06-Mar-2008.
- I've set up Xvnc remote access since this is a server-room machine and I need
to administer it from a remote workstation. (apt-get install vnc4server ; or
apt-get install vncserver. Same problem with either package).

Steps to reproduce.
1) Everything works fine logging in locally in the server room.

2) Set up Xvnc remote login via VNC (cmd line: Xvnc :1 -query localhost
-geometry 1280x1024 -depth 16 -once -fp /usr/share/fonts/X11/misc
-DisconnectClients=0 -NeverShared passwordFile=/root/.vnc/passwd
-extension XFIXES)

3) Run vncviewer from a remote desktop (vncviewer servername:1), GDM
login screen comes up fine. Login.

4) The gnome-settings-daemon restarts over and over upon login, and
eventually gives up with restarted too many times message.

5) Open a terminal window and start gnome-settings-daemon manually:
gnome-settings-daemon

6) Open any other window, or close any other window. gnome-settings-
daemon crashes with following error message:

The program 'gnome-settings-daemon' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)'.
  (Details: serial 2686 error_code 3 request_code 20 minor_code 0)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
   ...

This BadWindow crash in gnome-settings-daemon occurs every time you
open or close a new window.

I'm no pro at this but after following the problems with gnome-settings-
daemon and the Xrandr extension, perhaps the Xvnc server is also not
providing some feature that gnome-settings-daemon is apparently in need
of?

What other info can I provide that will help pinpoint this bug?
