[Bug 204854] Re: gnome-terminal / vte doesn't follow gnome font rendering settings
Yes, there is something wrong with the font rendering in Gnome terminal in the latest Hardy. Essentially, it ignores the system settings for subpixel rendering. See the attached screenshot. Character map is showing Monospace, 10 pt. The Font preferences show that the system's monospace font is Monospace, 10pt. Terminal is set to use the system font. However, while character map and Appearance shows nice crisp monospace text, Gnome Terminal has it's own antialiasing. It is not displaying text the way the rest of the system does. ** Attachment added: "comparison of font rendering" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/12851366/font_rendering.png -- gnome-terminal / vte doesn't follow gnome font rendering settings https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/204854 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-terminal in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-panel When in the "Create Launcher->Browse icons->Browse" dialog, no icons are shown, only directories. Even if you enter the exact location of the icon in the "Location:" bar, you get an error message such as: "Cannot create folder error accessing 'file:///home/xp/.data/a': File exists" To select an icon, you have to browse to the directory where the icon is stored and then press "Open". I then went back and tried to connect via "Connect to Server", using the [EMAIL PROTECTED] address, and could only browse in Firefox, as described in my previous post. I then went back and tried "nautilus sftp://[EMAIL PROTECTED]" in the command line and the Nautilus window simply froze, followed by my whole system freezing for several seconds after I managed to click shut the nautilus window. This is the experience I described in my previous post. I then tried "nautilus sftp://host"; and "nautilus sftp://[EMAIL PROTECTED]" again in the command line and got the DBus error quoted by Dan Trevino above. [Bug 197673] Re: gnome-display-properties should revert change automatically if not acknowledged
Unfortunately, many cases where xrandr fails, it locks the system up, so we'd have no way to ensure that the restoration logic would always get called reliably. But something similar could be done by e.g. moving the previous configuration to monitors.xml.old, and then have gnome-settings-daemon notice it and, if that file is older than monitors.xml by some amount (1 minute?), to move it back and restore the system. gnome-control-center could then be modified to display a dialog which would when Accept was pressed, would delete the monitors.xml.old. [Bug 199960] Re: error starting GNOME Settings Daemon
@seb128, part of a patch that I sent you earlier included a test for Xgl which I knew would break in this case - you rejected the patch because part of it was parsing Xorg.0.log. However the portion that tests for Xgl is independent and seems still valid. While I agree that xgl is not supported and should be discouraged, it seems like it would risk little to just include a check for it, and terminate xrandr stuff gracefully if they had it installed. Attached is a short example program to demo the code that would be employed. If you are willing to accept a patch, I can prepare one using this test for gnome-settings-daemon and gnome-control-center. It will also require adding a build-dep against libxv-dev. Fwiw, I have seen numerous other reports in the past of people who had inadvertently installed xserver-xgl back in Feisty days, which sometimes caused massive performance issues after upgrading to Gutsy. I'm not sure exactly what caused so many people to get xgl turned on, though. @XGL users - if someone could compile and run this program and check that it does indeed detect Xgl, it would be appreciated. ** Attachment added: "Sample program to demo testing for Xgl (and Xrandr versions)" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/12848067/xorg_xgl_info.c -- error starting GNOME Settings Daemon https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/199960 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 206281] [NEW] second layout gets mixed up with third-level of first layout
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon (Hardy, up-to-date.) I'm having a very weird bug in how keyboard layouts are handled. This didn't happen until some recent point in Hardy. I have two keyboard layouts selected in my keyboard preferences. The first is a Dvorak layout that uses AltGr as a third-level chooser to type some extra characters in my native language. The second is the standard French layout (which is the physical layout of the keys); I only use it when other people need to use my computer, which is why I don't know exactly when the problem started. When I login, the first layout is selected by default. I use the keyboard indicator and a shortcut key to switch between the two when needed. Here's the weird part: The first layout works perfectly. All keys behave as they should, and when I keep AltGr pressed the third level is selected correctly. When I switch to the second (Fr) layout, however, the keyboard indicator correctly shows "Fr", but the characters typed are those of the third level of the first layout. (I.e., switching to Fr is functionally equivalent to holding AltGr pressed.) If I enter keyboard properties, remove the French layout, and add it again, everything works correctly until I restart. I'm not sure what causes this issue. I've tentatively assigned it to gnome-settings-daemon, because I've seen a previous bug (different) that happened after login but stopped after cycling (unsetting&resetting) the relevant keyboard option. ** Affects: gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Summary changed: - second layout gets mixed up with third-level keys + second layout gets mixed up with third-level of first layout -- second layout gets mixed up with third-level of first layout https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/206281 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 204623] Re: evolution-data-server-2.22 high cpu utilization
I have a similar issue. It is intermittent upon logging in to my system; it will some times happen and others it will not, with no telltale sign as to why. I have never used evolution(mistakenly opened it once or twice, but always canceled out of the configuration wizard), and I do not have a wireless card installed in my computer, so it is not directly related to that, as suggested by ergo, above. Nor have I inserted an audio cd in to my dvd drive(actually, there is seldom a disc in my drive). I have a dual core Athlon 64 chip, and its process takes up full usage of one core(it does not touch the other one), and have not personally experienced any issue with my mouse while this problem occurs. Perhaps, though, the lack of issue with my mouse is because I still have one core of my CPU to handle it. -- evolution-data-server-2.22 high cpu utilization https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/204623 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution-data-server in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 191512] Re: gnome displays nfs mounts on the desktop
Sebastien, autofs is a daemon that interacts with the Linux kernel automounter to mount directories when they are accessed for the first time. The volumes are mounted by "root", not by the user accessing the directory. This is especially helpful when you have thousands of home directories exported via NFS, but you don't want to mount all of them on boot, but only as needed. Is there a particular reason that home directories need to be displayed on the desktop? I understand the need for /media, but not the need for /home/$USER. What we're trying to get at is that this behavior is a regression from Dapper and Gutsy (and also Edgy and Feisty) which causes the Gnome desktop to be somewhat at odds with very large deployments such as those found in universities or large corporations. As far as I can see, this regression poses no significant benefit to end users who already have sufficient methods of getting to their home directory. -P -- gnome displays nfs mounts on the desktop https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/191512 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

A tcpdump suggests that vinagre gives up as soon as it receives the server protocol from the remote end ("004.000" in this case). -- James ** Affects: vinagre (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- vinagre fails to connect https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/206227 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to vinagre in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 191512] Re: gnome displays nfs mounts on the desktop
The story of that screenshot is that when I left my machine (and locked the screen) on Friday, my desktop was empty. When I came in on Monday and unlocked it, that's what was there. The mount point in question would be /home/mpainter, which is mounted by automount whenever something under /home/mpainter is requested. The windows all ended up blank by the end of the weekend as they were also getting permission denied reading the mounts (as my auth had expired). -- gnome displays nfs mounts on the desktop https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/191512 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
