Re: [Bug 206583] Re: System Monitor crashes when changing nice value of process

2008-03-29 Thread Marcelo Atie
using gksu gnome-system-monitor it's works, because root have privileges to
change any priority, but gksu gnome-system-monitor shows only processes from
from the user that started gnome-system-monitor, so it shows only processes
from root, and not processes from my user, like firefox.
I think that will be good if when trying to change a priority of a process
when user haven't a permission to do it, ask to this user the su password
and change the priority, and when users can't use sudo, show a alert saying
that the user can't do ir because he don't have privileges.

[Bug 203513] Re: display doesn't go to sleep after today's gnome-power-manager update

2008-03-29 Thread hirak99
I'm using Hardy, same problem here on desktop. Even though I've set
display to sleep after 2 minutes, the screen does not go to standby -
instead the screensaver continues to display.

I've attached my `gnome-power-manager --no-daemon --verbose` results.

An extract follows:
...
[x11_sync_server_dpms_settings] gpm-dpms.c:130 (06:32:58): Syncing DPMS
settings enabled=1 timeouts=0 0 0
[x11_sync_server_dpms_settings] gpm-dpms.c:130 (06:32:58): Syncing DPMS
settings enabled=1 timeouts=0 0 0
[gpm_idle_set_check_cpu] gpm-idle.c:236 (06:32:58): Setting the CPU load
check to 0

instance
[gpm_manager_init] gpm-manager.c:1792 (06:32:58):creating new control
instance
...

Is it because of the timeouts=0 0 0?

Also here's what `xset q` tells about DPMS.

[Bug 191708] Re: gnome-appearance-properties crashed with SIGSEGV in gnome_theme_meta_info_compare()

2008-03-29 Thread Jim Hutchinson
Thomas, I can verify that it happened for me with the default theme. I
cannot verify that it's the same error. On a clean install of Hardy
(both beta and alpha 6), opening the theme manager (settings - prefs -
appearance) caused a crash window to open when trying to change the
theme. I don't recall what theme I chose at that time. Closing the crash
report window did not cause the theme manager to close. It continued
working despite the crash report. I've seen this several times now on
several machines. To date, I've installed hardy beta on 3 different
computers and all of them exhibited the same type of problem. It did
not, however, cause any usability issues on any of them - at least none
that I've noticed yet. I will try and pay attention next time it happens
but on at least one machine I think I check the "don't warn about future
problems" option so I may not see it again.

Interesting. Looks like upgrading my device to v1.0.4 (which upped Samba

Anyway, looks "fixed" to me. :)

[Bug 208828] Re: Nautilus folder copy fails with "Permission Denied" from SMB network share to desktop

The device is a little NS box, the D-Link DS-323. Connecting via

[Bug 151544] Re: [Gutsy] GNOME takes too much time to load during system boot

2008-03-29 Thread G. Tehcron
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 128803 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/128803

AthlonXP 2400+, nvidia GeForce FX 5700LE, same problem, very long login,
usually no error but sometime after hanging for a while with the yellow
screen, it pops up an error in a small window saying:

"There was an error starting the GNOME Settings Daemon.

Some things, such as themes, sounds, or background settings may not work
correctly.

The last error message was:

Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application
did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply,
the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.

GNOME will still try to restart the Settings Daemon next time you log
in."

I click "Close" and then my desktop appears with the wrong resolution; wide
screen instead of 1280x1024.
I logout & login and it's fine.

I took a backtrace of totem movie while it was hanging:

#1 0xb704603b in semop () from /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libc.so.6

#4 0xb6cc4385 in ?? () from /usr/lib/libasound.so.2
...

(Beyond frame 4 is not interesting since insufficient debugging
information was available to display procedure names, files, etc.)

Is the program trying to get exclusive access to a sound device? Should
the software check to see if the device is already in use? Should it
use a timeout?

Note that skype was running in another user account.

[Bug 203108] Bug not triggered if ...

2008-03-29 Thread Jeremy Wilkins
The dimming problem doesn't occur if 'Dim display when idle' option is
deselected (along with the 'Reduce backlight brightness' setting). Would
suggest power manager is watching for activity but not seeing any for
some reason ??

[Bug 208976] [NEW] nautilus crashed with SIGSEGVma

2008-03-29 Thread Lomax
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

upgraded from 7.10 to 8.04 beta with ATI drivers and X-session, got
warning something was not loading and in conflict. i had system startup
sounds but no sounds on rhythembox, plus my icon theme failed to load.

it then crashed the session and locked up with a black screen and the
x-session.

i was able to startup with the gnome fail-safe session and all my icons
are back and music does now play but i lost compuz cube.

i am a straight linux NB and do not know how to fix or get much more
info unless i walked step by step.

thanks

[Bug 148325] Re: Certain processes show incorrect memory usage when using xgl

2008-03-29 Thread Daniel Scain Farenzena
To ease things, I see the number o GB you reported on 10 processes, 3
others print the same number + 0.1 GB and the rest is normal.

[Bug 208933] Re: Appearance Preferences window won't roll up

2008-03-29 Thread Nattgew
It's not really that kind of issue... it's a window that doesn't behave
as it's supposed to, like all the other windows do.
