[Bug 191889] Re: [MASTER] [WORKAROUND] "Offline Mode" feature fails to detect proper online state for networks that are managed outside of network manager.

2008-07-25 Thread msmalin
The 'iface eth1000 inet dhcp' trick didn't quite wok for me, but I'm not
entirely sure I have the same issue. I'm using Ubuntu 8.04 with a
wireless connection (Intel 3945), and I use Opera rather than firefox,
and what I've been experiencing is when I boot Ubuntu, the network
manager applet shows "Networking Disabled" - I can't view SSIDs, it
doesn't give me the option to create a network or manually configure a
network, nothing. I run "sudo dpkg-reconfigure network-manager" and it
starts behaving normally.

So, it almost seems that whenever I shut down the laptop, something
isn't getting cleared up, and when I boot it back up, whatever didn't
get reset is jacking up the configuration so that it thinks networking
is disabled.

[Bug 252030] [NEW] Evolution Fails to Display Sync'd Tasks and Memos with Palm

2008-07-25 Thread Cornelius Brinegar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Description:Ubuntu 8.04.1
Release:8.04
(64 bit edition)

Evolution 2.22.3.1

Hot Syncing worked in 7.10 just fine. Now the Tasks and Memos don't
appear in Evolution. I can see the file size change under
.evolution/tasks/local/system/ for example, but the GUI never shows
anything. I can also add a task in Evolution, perform a Hot Sync, and
not see the task on my Palm. Yes, the Synchronize option and copy from
PDA options have both been tested.

Synchronizing the calendar works perfectly, but syncing the address book
messes up the copy in Evolution deleting fields such as Nickname that I
want preserved (Nickname is not a field on the Palm).

2008-07-25 Thread Frank Hieber
OK, this was strange. Out of the blue, Evolution popped up a handful of
appointment alerts. So apparently part of the application was running in
the background. I decided to attempt to launch Evolution and it launched
correctly. It even showed the folder subscription that I had selected that
seemed to be the initial source of the problems. I've since disabled those
subscriptions in case those were the source of the problem. I don't know
yet if it will continue to work, but for now, it is working. I'll let you
know if the situation changes.

[Bug 252003] [NEW] Changing date of recurring appt/mtg gets double mtgs, removes earlier

2008-07-25 Thread Bill Gjestvang
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

If you change the date of a recurring appointment or meeting, you get
appointments/meetings on both days, plus you delete all earlier
instances of the appt/mtg.

To reproduce:
(1) Create a new weekly appointment.
(2) Open the 3rd instance of the appointment.
(3) Change the date to the previous day.
(4) Click "Save"
(5) When prompted, click "All Instances", then "OK"

Results:
(1) The mtgs/appts from the first 2 weeks are completely gone.
(2) From the 3rd week forward, there are now mtgs/appts on both days.

Expected behavior:
(1) Earlier meetings should not be deleted. They should either remain where
they were, or move by the same amount as the later appointments.
(2) Each week should have only one meeting, on the new day.

I'm running the latest Hardy packages:
evolution 2.22.3.1-0ubuntu1

evolution-data-server 2.22.3-0ubuntu1

2008-07-25 Thread Fred
Thomas Thurman,
I right-click on the applet in the bottom-left corner of the screen, and select
Preferences, and change the column field to 4.

It remembers the setting, when I open it, it say 4 if I changed it to 4.
But it doesn't really change it to 4.

[Bug 1517] Move this to a new issue

Could someone with LP foo move this issue start from the second comment

2008-07-25 Thread Henrique P Machado
Mauricio,

Pelo relato e pela minha pouca experiência em suporte também, me parece que
você está com problemas no driver de áudio.

Se estiver usando o Ubuntu mesmo, tente os seguintes passos:

1. Vá até o menu Sistema->Preferências->Som

Re: [Bug 1517] Re: thumbnailer disabled in 1.1.1-0ubuntu3

2008-07-25 Thread Mauricio Ernica
Caros, obrigado pela prontidão.

Em primeiro lugar, sou absolutamente leigo e engatinho no Linux, ainda. Não
tenho domínio das linhas de comando e, por isso, minha autonomia é bastante
restrita.

Resumindo a história, Instalei os codecs indicados nesse tutorial:
http://hamacker.wordpress.com/ubuntu-perfeito-versao-804/

totem)

aconteceu.

Abraços,
Mauricio

Another observation here, indicating that things are messed up, is after
you've played with this for a bit, you can stop and restart evolution,
and sometimes the calendar looks much different. So what gets saved
isn't the same as what it thinks it's saving.

[Bug 251995] [NEW] Editing reccurrence for "This Instance Only" locks out recurrence editing

2008-07-25 Thread Bill Gjestvang
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Create a new Friday appointment that recurs weekly, forever. Go back in
and change the recurrence from Friday to Saturday. Click "Save" on the
appointment, and it'll ask if you want to save it for "This Instance
Only" or "All Instances".

Alright, this is the first problem. It makes no sense to edit the
occurrence for a single instance.

Select "This Instance Only", and save it. Now, when you go back in, the
recurrence information is grayed out, and you can't change it. This is
true of both the instance you changed or any other instance. You can
see that the instance you changed has no recurrence info, but all others
have the original recurrence info. But you can't change any of them.

Also, nothing actually changes day. Not even the one you told to.

You can regain access to the recurrence settings by changing the time
for all appointments. But the state of the series never seems quite
right again, and it seems to lead to cascading badness, possibly
including crashes.

This was produced using a local calendar.

Running the current Hardy code:

[Bug 251991] [NEW] Mounted USB harddrive showes twice on the desktop - right click one of the icons and choose "Unmount Volume" results in error "DBus error org.gtk.Private.RemoteVolumeMonitor.NotFoun

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Ok, quite a long summary. Anyway this is what happens on Intrepid Alpha

1. I plug in my USB hard disk (I tried with several different USB hard disks of
different makes - they all show the same behaviour)
2. The hard disks appears twice on the desktop, on the Places menu of the Gnome
menu, on the Sidepane in Nautilus and under the URL "My Computer:///" in
Nautilus.
3. My hard drive has a custom icon assigned to it. On the deskop I see the
drive once with the custom, once with the default icon.
4. If I right click the custom icon on the desktop and choose "Unmount Volume"
from the context menu, the drive unmounts fine, however, if I click the default
icon and do exactly the same thing, I get "Unable to unmount - DBus
error org.gtk.Private.RemoteVolumeMonitor.NotFound: The given mount was not

5. I double click any of the icons and the drive opens fine in Nautilus.
6. I can copy to and from the drive - no problem.

[Bug 251993] [NEW] Firefox 3.0.1 upgrade fails on Hardy 8.04 i386

2008-07-25 Thread Tony Sweeney
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libpango1.0-0

I just ran into, and eventually fixed a problem with Ubuntu Hardy automatic
updates that hinged on the available version of libpango. The Firefox 3.0.1
release that just came out depends on xulrunner-1.9.0.1, which in turn depends
on libpango 1.20.5. On my AMD64 system, all dependencies were pulled down and
the upgrade worked as advertised. On my i386 laptop, however, the latest
version of libpango was stuck at 1.20.1-1, and the installation of xulrunner,
and in turn Firefox-3 was blocked. I manually installed libpango and
libpango-common 1.20.5.0 from
http://packages.ubuntu.com/hardy-updates/i386/libpango1.0-0/download, and this
cleared the logjam and allowed Firefox 3.0.1 to be installed. I think this is
possibly a bug in the Hardy i386 update package dependencies/available versions.

[Bug 251976] [NEW] Copy disc sometimes fails, sometimes works

2008-07-25 Thread Neil Woolford
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus-cd-burner

If I wish to use nautilus to copy an existing data CD I place it in the
single drive on my machine. It automatically mounts, opening a browser
window and appearing as an icon on the desktop.

If I close the browser window, I can right click the desktop icon. Copy
disc is offered as an option in the menu that pops up. When I select it
the copy disc dialogue opens up. I click on 'write' (to *read* and
*copy* the CD that is in the drive, an open bug elsewhere). After I
click on 'write' to go forward one of two things happen; either the
process goes forward correctly or the dialogue just disappears. A
second attempt usually works fine.

I note that when the Copy Disc Dialogue opens up (and after it ungreys),
sometimes the desktop icon for the CD remains on the desktop, sometimes
it disappears. If the icon remains, the copy process fails. If the
icon disappears, the copy process succeeds.

I'm using Hardy Heron, nautillus-cd-burner 2.22.1-0ubuntu1.

Must be a fix in some underlying libraries - for me it's not only solved

[Bug 251947] [NEW] gnome panel incorrect text orientation

2008-07-25 Thread r.stiltskin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

This seems similar to bug #118483 but does not involve compiz.

When I move the main panel to the right edge of the screen either by
dragging with the mouse or by changing Properties/Orientation, the text
"Applications Places System" and the clock's date and time text are
incorrectly oriented (the characters are rotated 90 degrees clockwise) -
see screenshot attached.

When I move the panel to the left edge of the screen, "Applications
Places System" and the clock text are rotated 90 degrees
counterclockwise, but the username characters are still rotated 90
degrees clockwise.

If I create a new panel on the left edge of the screen containing a
userswitcher and a clock, all of these characters are rotated 90 degrees
counterclockwise.

This is in a new installation of Ubuntu 8.04.

[Bug 251936] [NEW] evolution can't authenticate to Exchange 2007 server

2008-07-25 Thread Richard Wilbur
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Tried both 'Plaintext' and 'Secure' password types and can't
authenticate to Exchange 2007 OWA server with the same account
information I use for Firefox access through same URL. Evolution
Exchange access used to work fine before my company's Information
Services upgraded from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007.

Using fully updated Ubuntu 8.04, evolution 2.22.3.1, evolution-exchange
2.22.3, and libexchange-storage1.2-3

I am a software engineer presently employed in C and C++ development
using the Gnu toolchain under Gnu/Linux and Cygwin and would be happy to
assist this effort with logs, testing, or both. I am not acquainted
with the evolution source code but would be happy to get my feet wet if
that would help.

[Bug 251934] [NEW] right clicking selected calendar event acts like clicking on open space

2008-07-25 Thread Bill Gjestvang
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

This only happens in "Week" and "Month" view. It is reproducible.
Possibly related to bug 251930.

If you have selected a calendar event, then right click it, you get a
context menu that looks like you clicked in an open area of the
calendar. There are no options for open, move, delete, etc. Only new
this, new that, etc.

If you have nothing selected, or some other appointment selected, before
right-clicking, you get the correct menu. If you have something else
selected, right-click, and delete, it deletes the correct item (the one
you right clicked). So it's only a problem when you right click what's
already selected.

I'm using an exchange calendar to test this. I'm running the latest hardy
packages:
evolution 2.22.3.1-0ubuntu1
evolution-common 2.22.3.1-0ubuntu1
evolution-data-server 2.22.3-0ubuntu1

[Bug 251930] [NEW] right clicking calendar event partially uses other event

2008-07-25 Thread Bill Gjestvang
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

This only happens in "Day" and "Work Week" view. It is reproducible.

If you have selected a calendar event, then right click a different one,
it gives you the context menu of the selected item, not the one you
right clicked. You can tell because the menus for recurring meetings
are different than those for single-instance meetings.

So, if you select a recurring meeting, and right click a single-instance
meeting, you see "Delete this Occurrence" and "Delete All Occurrences"
in the menu, when you should see only "Delete". The reverse is also
true.

If you then select "Delete this Occurence" for a single-instance
meeting, it fails with the error "The event could not be deleted due to
an error". If you select "Delete All Occurrences" on a single-instance
meeting, it deletes fine.

If you select "Delete" on a recurring meeting, it deletes all
occurrences.

I'm using an exchange calendar to test this. I'm running the latest hardy
packages:
evolution 2.22.3.1-0ubuntu1
evolution-common 2.22.3.1-0ubuntu1

Re: [Bug 39856] Re: Panel in middle of the screen after reboot when not full-sized

2008-07-25 Thread M. Nease
Hi Martin,

Thanks for all your efforts. When I followed the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed , I received this
terminal output:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sh -c 'kill -SEGV $$'
Segmentation fault
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$

I'm running Ubuntu 9.04--do you need any more info? Have I missed
something obvious?

Thanks Again,

Mike Nease

[Bug 251917] [NEW] can not access File menu with Alt-F key combo

2008-07-25 Thread Tormod Volden
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: eog

Steps to reproduce: Start eog and press Alt-F (in English the _File menu has an
underscore under the F in File.)
Expected: The File menu should unfold.
Happens: Nothing. Actually if you have an image opened, and it has been zoomed
in or out, it will zoom to fit. So it seems the _View -> Zoom to _fit is
activated instead.

Workaround: Press Alt-E to unfold the _Edit menu, then the left arrow
key.

ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: i386
Date: Fri Jul 25 19:17:14 2008
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 8.04
ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/eog

[Bug 251836] Re: Rhythmbox crashed when radio station Couldn't start playback

2008-07-25 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal
with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report
a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport
in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.
I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 251902] [NEW] gnome-search-tool: Alt-H don't work correct

2008-07-25 Thread Grek-336
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-utils

Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon 7.10
gnom-utils 2.20.0.1-0ubuntu1

I use the "Ordner durchsuchen" (think Folder search in en) to search for
"Andere" (think other in en).

When the Option "Verborgene Datein anzeigen" (think Show hiddenfiles in
en) is on and i turn they off the Files/Folder like .xyz wil not remove
from the list. When I turn the Option on I show every File/Folder twice.

I can **not** reproduce this bug in my VirtualBox VM for Hardy and
Gutsy.

So I not now is it a bug or a Problem of my real machine.

A Screencast to document the Bug (recorded with gtk-RecordMyDesktop)

[Bug 251697] Re: Exit/Shutdown Not Focused

2008-07-25 Thread Brian Murray
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this
bug as a bug in gdm.

For future reference you might be interested to know that a lot of
applications have bug reporting functionality built in to them. This
can be accessed via the Report a Problem option in the Help menu for the
application with which you are having an issue. You can learn more
about this feature at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.
