[Bug 278489] [NEW] vinagre local mouse pointer disappears
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: vinagre When you first connect to a VNC session with vinagre, you have both a 'local' mouse pointer, which moves smoothly in concert with your mouse movements (compare with xtightvnc where this local mouse pointer is a circle rather than an arrow), and the 'remote' mouse pointer for the remote computer, which lags behind the local pointer depending on the bandwidth of the connection. This is all as expected. But when you move the local mouse outside the window displaying the remote computer (eg move the mouse into Vinagre's bookmarks column or title bar) and then back into the window displaying the remote computer, the 'local' mouse pointer vanishes. This makes using vinagre quite frustrating because the 'lagging' mouse pointer gives poor feedback and you continuously overshoot menus, etc. Intrepid 8.10 kernel 2.7.26-5 amd64 vinagre 2.24.0-0ubuntu1 This also happens on the Hardy version. ** Affects: vinagre (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- vinagre local mouse pointer disappears https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/278489 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to vinagre in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 237401] Re: totem tries to allocate 4GB
Here is the glib allocation code: gpointer g_malloc (gsize n_bytes) { if (G_UNLIKELY (!g_mem_initialized)) g_mem_init_nomessage(); if (G_LIKELY (n_bytes)) { gpointer mem; mem = glib_mem_vtable.malloc (n_bytes); if (mem) return mem; g_error (%s: failed to allocate %G_GSIZE_FORMAT bytes, G_STRLOC, n_bytes); } return NULL; } Basically, what happened was that the glib_mem_vtable.malloc() freaked out about the huge size requested and as a response it returned NULL. This in turn caused the program to call g_error() which printed the error. Re-running this scenario under gdb with a breakpoint on g_error and then obtaining a backtrace would probably be interesting because the bug is almost certainly in the calling code (possibly in totem). However, if the reporter does not have a specific set of steps that can reproduce this bug then further analysis is not possible. [Bug 278299] Re: Intrepid: arrows in gnome menu?
Thanks for the links Bernhard. The first might well describe a genuine bug. It refers to the top/bottom arrows that appear in menus when they are too long to fit onto the screen; the reported behaviour is that the menu length is fine but the arrows appear and you have to scroll up/down to see all the menu entries. I'll have a hunt around to see if that bug had been reported before. The second refers to the small down arrow you get on the Menu Bar panel applet icon. It is there I assume, to hint that the icon is actually a menu but some folks obviously don't like it. The Audio-CD should be replace by Cdrom-Drive when the drive is ejected. (Cdrom-drive is the initial state when I start the computer with no cd/dvd in the drive). I'm using Intrepid This is already longer than today, and I didn't found a similar bug report, so I wonder if I'm the only one with this problem, or I can't search. ** Affects: gvfs (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- cdrom/dvd names are not correct https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/278598 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gvfs in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 278597] [NEW] High pitch noise under kernel 2.6.27-4-generic
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: yelp This is a continuation of bug #93067 (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/93067). I have continued to experience the high pitch electronic noise under Feisty, Hardy and now Intrepid. Under Hardy, the noise was only present to a small degree. Last night I upgraded to 8.10 Beta and the noise has seemingly become louder. The # echo 2 /sys/module/processor/parameters/max_cstate work around used to work for me under Feisty, but has not worked for some time since this parameter was removed from recent kernel revisions(?). Are there any new work arounds for this issue. Is there additional information which I may provide to help in this situation. [Bug 217997] Re: Incorrect icons displayed for mimetypes installed in hicolor theme only
@Peter: I agree that the current situation isn't great because hicolor mimetype icons in fact never get shown. The proper thing to do would probably be to display the custom mimetype icons when the default theme is used and use the generic fallbacks when a custom theme is in use. Regarding your reductio ad absurdum argument the correct behavior would depend on whether we want to keep style or convey information. If we want to keep the theme consistent the correct thing to do would be to display all files as this icon - this may well be the author's intent. However if we intend to convey information we could use the specific hicolor theme icons. I think this decision would be best left to the theme author, so the solution is to add a flag to the index.theme file, let's call it InheritsMimeTypes, that would determine whether to use hicolor mime icons if they are more specific. If your theme is reasonably tango-like then you set it to true. If it's completely different like Gartoon Redux or BlackWhite, you set it to false so the style is consistent. -- Incorrect icons displayed for mimetypes installed in hicolor theme only https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/217997 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 278078] Re: The key repeat delay for the down-arrow left-arrow keys is longer than the other keys
From the GNOME's bugzilla, a developer says: I cannot reproduce the behaviour you describe, and in any case, key repeat delay is a global X server setting. There is no way for us to define different delays or different keys. So if anything, this is a bug in the X server. I've tested then on Xfce4 and I got the same issue, so the problem is not a GNOME problem. Another way to test the existence of the issue: 1. Go to System-Preferences-Keyboard. 2. Go to Layouts tab. 3. Check Key presses repeat when key is held down chekbox. 4. Move the Delay rule to the very left (near to Short label). 5. Go to Accessibility tab. 6. Check Only accept long keypresses in Slow Keys. 7. Move the Delay rule of the Slow Keys section to the very left (near to Short label). 8. Open a Terminal. Press and hold any printable key (say, for instance, the d key). You can see the d char appearing repeatedly. Now, press and hold the left-arrow key. Expected behavior: The blinking cursor moves repeatedly to the left, traveling all the d chars. Actual behavior: The cursor moves ONLY ONE POSITION to the left, without repetition. You can check that the down-arrow key is affected with this bug, too. However, the up-arrow key and the right-arrow key works as expected. -- The key repeat delay for the down-arrow left-arrow keys is longer than the other keys https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/278078 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 29622] Re: Many web browsers not print the headers and footers.
I am running Kubuntu Intrepid Ibex beta with Firefox 3.0.3. This bug is not only still valid, but Firefox 3.0 has introduced serious regression. To the best of my knowledge, *_all_* HP LaserJet printers (and I have used many, going back to the original ~1986 model) have an unprintable area 0.5 (12.7mm) across the top and bottom of all paper sizes and 0.25 (~6.4mm) along each side of all paper sizes (top, bottom and sides as seen in portrait mode). To get browser headers and footers to print reliably has always taken tweaking of the printable area and margins/headers/footers. The Firefox 3 page setup and printer dialogs have removed all ability to alter these settings. This regression makes Firefox 3 on Linux close to useless for printing Web pages. I am trying to eliminate Windows from my life and considerably prefer Firefox to Konqueror. This regression therefore represents a considerable setback. -- Many web browsers not print the headers and footers. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/29622 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 278709] [NEW] Rhythmbox stops playing new sounds from ices2
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: rhythmbox Player: Rhythmbox 0.115 OS: Ubuntu 8.04 Problem description: I have ices2 and icecast2 working. 4 ogg sounds are in my playlist and ices2 is streaming it. [Bug 36189] Re: Applets do not scale well with changing resolution
Here's a workaround. I did not test it very well. It keeps the objects at the same position. Simple go the the directory ~/.gconf/apps/panel/applets/ and set the %gconf.xml to read-only after setting the position. The Shutdown-Dialog-gconf.xml is located in ~/.gconf/apps/panel/objects/session_dialog_screen0/. To make the applets stick to the right open gconf-editor goto apps/panel/applets/appletOfChoice and set panel_right_stick to 1. To order the applets from right to left set the position in gconf to 0 for the one at the border and 1 for the next one and so on. Right, HAL is showing no batteries, so this isn't a gnome-power-manager bug. Re-assigning to the kernel for now. Please include the following additional information, if you have not already done so (pay attention to lspci's additional options), as required by the Ubuntu Kernel Team: 1. Please include the output of the command uname -a in your next response. It should be one, long line of text which includes the exact kernel version you're running, as well as the CPU architecture. 2. Please run the command dmesg dmesg.log after a fresh boot with the UPS connected and attach the resulting file dmesg.log to this bug report. 3. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a bug in rhythmbox.
