[Bug 295009] [NEW] deleting files in nautilus does not delete the files

2008-11-06 Thread ArbitraryConstant
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

1. Description: Ubuntu 8.10
Release:8.10

2. Version: 1:2.24.1-0ubuntu1

3. When I highlight a file in Nautilus and delete it, I expect it to be
deleted, or moved to some appropriate trash can folder for later
removal.

4. Post-deletion, the file isn't visible in Nautilus, or with the
command prompt, or in the trash can, but continues to take up space. The
file is on a different filesystem than my home directory.

I was able to track the files down to a .Trash-1000 directory. As this
name won't be visible, this removes the ability of normal users to
reclaim the space used by files. Files should be deleted permanently
with a warning, or moved to a trash can that can be emptied with a GUI.

[Bug 294939] Re: Allow Drag&Drop Import without copying files

2008-11-06 Thread weboide
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us and the
upstream bug reports, this appears not to be a bug.

The actual feature is:
If you want your image to be copied, just drag and drop normally.
If you want your image *not* to be copied, drag and while dropping hold the
Shift (or even ALT) key.

Here's the (solved) upstream bug report.

[Bug 294438] Re: Cannot uninstall Evolution

2008-11-06 Thread Fred
Well, if I try to remove evolution-data-server then it removes Ekiga.
I never told it to remove Ekiga, so I think its a bug.

If I try to remove evolution-data-server-common, then it will remove
gnome-panel and cripple my Ubuntu so its broken. I think its a bug. I
never told it to do that.

If I wanted remove gnome-panel, then I would do so. It shouldn't come
and try to remove it, when I want to remove something completely
entirely different.

[Bug 294980] [NEW] /etc/init.d/gdm check for 'text' in /proc/cmdline should not match within words

2008-11-06 Thread Sundar Nagarajan
Public bug reported:

Line 49 of /etc/init.d/gdm checks for 'text' in kernel command line, and if
present, does not start the Display Manager. However, the script does
  grep -qs text /proc/cmdline
which will match anything on the kernel command line that includes 'text'
(including a UUID, kernel image or initrd filename or any other kernel
parameter including the string 'text'. This is probably not what is expected.

I suggest replacing line 49 to read as follows instead:
if grep -qsw text /proc/cmdline; then
This will match 'text' only as a separate word, and is probably what was
intended.

[Bug 219596] Re: Time applet doesn't show weather or temperature

2008-11-06 Thread Josh
I had this problem as well, but mine was due to not having a "home"
location set. I had two locations since Hardy, and I didn't see
temperature/weather until I upgraded to Intrepid, removed one location
and set the other location as home.

Hope that helps.

[Bug 294945] [NEW] Slider doesn't forward if write access isn't given

2008-11-06 Thread Nidoo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Simply put if your playing a file (MP3 in my case) that you only have
read access to, the slider or any other method to forward/reverse in the
song doesn't work. The workaround was easy, I gave myself write access
but not everybody (limited access) could do this. After the workaround I
found that 90% of the files that wouldn't forward/reverse before now did
so. Not sure what's going with the other 10%.

think you'd better open a new bug report with a mention about bug

If I was you, I would also try to umount your MTP device before trying
to access it through rhythmbox, just in case, because in my case, my MTP
device is not mounted by GNOME and rhythmbox is the first thing that
really communicates with it. In case you open a new bug report, please

[Bug 294937] [NEW] iPod problems when iPod full

2008-11-06 Thread SlaughterDog
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

I have an iPod shuffle, and if I try to use Rythmbox to transfer music
on it, it works fine, until the iPod fills up. After I try to transfer a
song and there is not enough space (which is easy to do when it has no
indication of capacity used), the iPod will no longer play in shuffle
mode, and sometimes not even in normal playback mode. When I plug it
back in to Rythmbox, Rythmbox lists it with the default name of Apple
iPod and shows that there is no music on it. It still mounts to the
computer with the label that I gave it, though.

This is on Ubuntu Hardy, and it shows

[Bug 58171] Re: Connection to ICE-unix/.. socket times out so programs take minutes to start

2008-11-06 Thread Smeuuh
As a temporary workaround I have set the limit of open files to a very large
value.
The problem is that gnome-session, for some reason, doesn't close the socket
when it should, which raises an error when the max limit of open files is
reached. I have no idea where this comes from, but since we know approximately
the time at which the bug was introduced in intrepid, it should be easy for
someone knowledgeable to locate the faulty patch.

[Bug 190848] Re: font in terminal does not resemble font in preview

2008-11-06 Thread MichaelM
The workaround for me (I want full subpixel hinting for terminal) is to
do this:

cd /etc/fonts/conf.d
sudo unlink 10-hinting-medium.conf
sudo ln -s ../10-hinting-full.conf .

That fixes it for me. However, it should really be following the font
settings in the Gnome Appearance Preferences dialog.

[Bug 285283] Re: Bluetooth file transfer to phone fails (from both Nautilus and Bluetooth applet)

2008-11-06 Thread kylea
I cannot get "sdptool browse" to work at all - it used to prior to RC of
Intrepid:

Here are my outputs:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~# hcitool scan

00:1B:AF:CA:BE:44 Kyle6110

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~# hcitool inq

Inquiring ...
00:1B:AF:CA:BE:44 clock offset: 0x068cclass: 0x5a020c

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~# sdptool browse 00:1B:AF:CA:BE:44

Failed to connect to SDP server on 00:1B:AF:CA:BE:44: Connection reset
by peer

Now the sdptool browse has previously worked and syncing used to work
fine for the Calendar.

Maybe in all the attempts to get this working something is missing.

[Bug 290506] Re: cheese doesn't show v4l2 video output and disables output on gstreamer-based apps ran afterwards

2008-11-06 Thread bryonak
Confirming on a MacbookPro Santa Rosa on Intrepid.

If I don't start Cheese after booting, gstreamer-properties gives me a picture.
After starting Cheese, /dev/video0 is broken for gstreamer applications.

VLC works when specifying the device interface (/devices/pci:00/...)
of the built-in cam.

Here's my thread on ubuntuforums.org about the issue:

[Bug 294894] [NEW] Problems with podcast playback: seeking, pausing and timer after seeking

2008-11-06 Thread Simon
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

When seeking by dragging the timer bar, the timer stops counting and the
track can no longer be paused. It also does not seem possible to seek
the track again after seeking the first time.

and for the timer to continue working. I would also like to be able to
pause the track.

[Bug 277623] Re: [intrepid] touch pad speed reset when return from suspend

2008-11-06 Thread J. Bruce Fields
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 280148 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/280148

Hm, no actually I was wrong, it's not crashing--it's just using,
according to top, 20% cpu and 22% memory (on a laptop with 4g
installed), and (I assume) failing to respond to anyone, since the
various properties dialogs take a long time to come up, then eventually
give the "unable to start settings manager gnome-settings-daemon" error
when they do.

This happens after a gnome-settings-daemon has been running an hour or
two, without the need for any suspend/resume.

Apologies, this is probably the wrong bug to be commenting on at this
point!

[Bug 294879] [NEW] scaling a display in vinagre shows a blank white screen when connecting to a dual monitor setup from a single monitor computer

2008-11-06 Thread SalsaDoom
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: vinagre

Getting enough information to submit a proper bug report took a bit of
work here because the problem only shows up in certain configurations.
When scaling, connecting to a host with two monitors, from a computer
with a single monitor, the screen scaling shows a blank white screen.
>From what I can tell with my own systems, this only occurs in that
circumstance. Scaling a host with two monitors from a client with two
monitors seems to work fine. Scaling a host with a single monitor from a
client with a single monitor seems to work fine. I wasn't able to test
if scaling a single monitor host from a client with two monitors works
or not yet. A good example of when this comes up is when you connect to
a workstation with two monitors from a laptop.

This only occurs in Vinagre 2.24.1 (what ships with Ubuntu 8.10), and
whether the host runs 8.10, 8.04 doesn't seem to matter. I haven't
tested with any other vnc server but vino, but the problem did happen
with vino on 8.10 and 8.04. It is almost certainly unrelated to the
client anyway.

ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: i386
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 8.10
ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/vinagre
Package: vinagre 2.24.1-0ubuntu1
ProcEnviron:

PATH=/home/username/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games
 LANG=en_CA.UTF-8
 SHELL=/bin/bash
SourcePackage: vinagre
Uname: Linux 2.6.27-7-eeepc i686

[Bug 270777] Re: [SRU] unable to copy music from an MTP device

2008-11-06 Thread Call me Ishmael
Hi Saïvann
After the release upgrade MTP was not checked (it was in the 8.04, because I
used rhythmbox to transfer files to the player)
I checked it but the Creative Zen is not detected. I have a 30GB Ipod (5th
gen), which is correctly handled even in 8.10, but I know is taken by another
plugin.
I'll file a new bug report, thanks!

Thank you, but unfortunately bug report 292523 contains nothing useful to
help me fix the problem. gvfs does not mount my drive, not does smbclient
although I can at least see a directory with it. Since our office relies on
the ability to actually open files on the central server, it looks like I'm
stuck with Windows until either the next update or reformatting and going
back to 8.04 which I'm not inclined to do.
