[Bug 310829] [NEW] blank screen screensaver doesn't work

2008-12-23 Thread DaveAbrahams
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

If I select and activate blank screen, after the time elapses, one of
my two monitors begins a gradual dimming progression. The other one
stays on full blast. When the dimming finally finishes, the monitor that
was getting dimmer immediately comes back to full brightness.

This is ubuntu 8.10

  Installed: 2.24.0-0ubuntu2

[Bug 310833] [NEW] gnome-power-manager interface confusing (and undocumented)

2008-12-23 Thread DaveAbrahams
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

I know there are at least several levels of display sleep (available
through xset) and the interface doesn't tell me which one(s) I'm going
to get. Is this the full power saving I really want, or some
intermediate state, or what? Also, the Set display brightness to:
sliders have an unclear effect. Just when does that brightness setting
take place? Is it part of g-p-m's notion of display sleep? What does
Dim display when idle do exactly? How long does the computer have to
be idle before dimming begins? Is the display supposed to undim when I
start using the computer again?

The answers to at least some of these questions should be self-evident
from looking at the UI, but they are not.

This is in Ubuntu Intrepid 8.10

gnome-power-manager:
  Installed: 2.24.0-0ubuntu8.1

Please see also https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/308815 and
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-doc/+bug/310831
Also, note that http://www.shallowsky.com/linux/x-screen-blanking.html makes a
credible claim that screen power management should be handled by screensavers.

[Bug 310850] [NEW] epiphany won't open .torrent files with deluge

2008-12-23 Thread wilk
Public bug reported:

.torrent files are configured to be opened by deluge in nautilus. The relevant
entry is in .local/share/applications/mimeapps.list and double-clicking on a
.torrent file in nautilus launches deluge.
However, clicking on a .torrent link in epiphany launches btdownload. Changing
the order in /usr/local/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache (putting
deluge.torrent in the first place) fixes it but it's periodically changed again
(some mime update i guess). It seems the .local settings are ignored.

[Bug 310869] [NEW] Panels not loading after quick shutdown

2008-12-23 Thread Brennus
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: yelp

I restarted my computer with applications still running, and when my new
session started, my panels didn't load. Applications still open,
everything's running fine. I opened firefox through the help, and can
open Nautilus and my Documentviewer through my desktop. But no panels
sorta makes me screwed. How can I fix it? If I could open my panels, I
could play with the preferences and make sure they open on session
startup I bet. But I can't! Agh!!!

This was also right after installing a new driver for my Broadcom
wireless card; this was the reason for the restart.

I'm using the latest 8.10 Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex.

2008-12-23 Thread Hew McLachlan
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Which version of Ubuntu and Brasero are you using? The
issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live
environment of the Desktop CD of the development release, Jaunty
Jackalope, which contains Brasero 0.8.4. It would help us greatly if you

[Bug 192629] Re: Cannot move file to trash, do you want to delete immediately? on NTFS / VFAT partitions

2008-12-23 Thread YannUbuntu
I still have this bug in Intrepid. I use a NTFS partition for all my
data (pictures, documents, songs) in order to use them both with XP and
Ubuntu.

This bug is really painful for new Ubuntu users: it prevents from deleting
songs in Rhythmbox, pictures in EOG, files in Nautilus...
Please warn the user with a simple message (and why not a security option to
choose in the Administration menu), but DON'T make his first Ubuntu
experience a PAIN !

[Bug 310907] Re: [Intrepid] Dragging in Freecell Crashes XWindows

2008-12-23 Thread Aki Utoslahti
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important
for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. I have classified
this bug as a bug in gnome-games.
It appears that your bug report is missing the version of Ubuntu which is in
your use and the version of gnome. If you could update your report with info
about those version numbers. Ubuntu version number can be seen from System -
About ubuntu, and right after the ubuntu logo from the text.
Gnome version can be found from System - About gnome.
Thank you in advance.

Thank you for your directions. I accidentally installed a partial

Your directions for finding the version number for example doesn't work
since the version number isn't in the help file. After browsing through
the file I have noticed many pieces of missing information that would be
version specific. I can only guess that I have copies of rough drafts of
the help files. Below are the version that I am using to my knowledge.

[Bug 310932] [NEW] Network mounts (smb) stop working after idle time

2008-12-23 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: firefox

I have a two Samba Servers, one on Suse 11 and one on FreeBSD and Ubuntu
Desktop shows the same problems.

I have some Network Resources bookmarked. When I need to access a
certain place, I simply use the bookmark, which works fine and a Shotcut
is created on the desktop, which also works great. After idleing around,
I like to access the network share again but the shortcut on the Desktop
errors out, so does the bookmark - the errors are attached.

I have to unmount the resource and access it then via the bookmark
(abviously as the desktop shortcut gets removed) and can happily access
the network resource.

Desired effect: - I like to access my Samba Server independently of how
much time passed meanwhile

[Bug 77541] Re: After hibernation ekiga says registration failed.

2008-12-23 Thread sim909
No, the bug is still there for me.
Running intrepid and ekiga 2.0.12-0ubuntu5, all packages in my system updated
to latest version.
The same happens after a suspend.

After a couple of minutes from resume the status bar goes from
registration failed: timeout to missed calls: 0 - voice mails:0,
making me think that it has registered with my sip server, when in fact
it hasn't. No need to restart ekiga, disabling and re-enabling the
account is enough.

I only started using ekiga with intrepid, so cannot comment on previus versions.
I'd be happy to provide more info if needed.

[Bug 310978] [NEW] Import of a CD should open the songs in the library

2008-12-23 Thread François Tissandier
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

This is not a bug, but a potential improvement.

The import of a CD is working fine, but it could be even better:

-instead of having to right click on the CD, why not allow to just
click, hold, move the CD on the library, and release? The meaning is
quite obvious, copy this CD into my library. Just on click, even
faster.

-when the import is finished, I didn't see anything telling me that it's
done. Instead of showing a simple message saying import finished, I
think it would make sense to just open the songs from the library, ready
to play. It would show that the album is imported, and allow the person
to do what he probably wanted to do from the beginning, listen to the CD
from a copy in his library.

-once the import is finished, I think it would also make sense to look
for the cover immediately too. Why wait until the user open the songs?

Those are of course non critical improvements, but I don't think they
are very complicated technically speaking, and they would just make the
experience smoother.

[Bug 310981] [NEW] workspace switcher preference window goes wild

2008-12-23 Thread Toni Ruottu
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Workspace switcher preference window goes wild when it fails to
communicate its state with the window manager. I use xmonad and I
realize making gnome-panel applets to work with xmonad is not a high
priority for the gnome team and actually I'm mostly ok with not being
able to use the preferences dialog. What bugs me is that when I
accidentially try to use the dialog it starts opening and closing itself
in a tight loop. When I manage to click on close button of the dialog it
goes away, but usually this take me several minutes during which I have
to look at the insane flickering caused by the window going away and
reappearing.

[Bug 124326] Re: Shrinking to notification area should have its own title bar button

2008-12-23 Thread Maxim Levitsky
I would realy like to see that feature.

You misunderstand the notification bar, it is actually abused for
minimizing of different kind, eg when you want to seperate a window from
the taskbar.

What it really needed is second official taskbar, that contatins only
icons, and put there all applications that user want to.

Notification bar should die as such, it should just turn in another
taskbar for applications, and btw this is exactly mostly the case today,
but it isn't standard.

Real notifications should be shows as just a popup window with no icon.

Controls like volume/brightness, app launchers are already seperate
applets.

[Bug 124326] Re: Shrinking to notification area should have its own title bar button

2008-12-23 Thread Maxim Levitsky
Let me tell again, exactly like you say here, there should be two taskbars,
one main one and a special icon only taskbar for important/background apps.

And there should be two buttons exactly like you say, minimize there and
there.

This is the best feature I would like to have on linux

[Bug 290506] Re: cheese malfunctioning with UVCVIDEO webcams (was cheese doesn't show v4l2 video output and disables output on gstreamer-based apps ran afterwards)

2008-12-23 Thread Noel J. Bergman
Yah! It worked thanks to this:
 http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=6220547postcount=7

You do realize what those instructions do, right? You are installing
from a developer's branch in source control. And depending on when
someone downloads ir, they may get different code from what someone else
got at a different time.

If it works, it works. But what most people will want is an Ubuntu
package with all of the stable upstream content.
