[Bug 309894] Re: baobab segfault on start after upgrade to 2.6.27.11

2009-01-08 Thread Hew McLachlan
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.
If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 314225] Re: Evince very long load time with complex document

2009-01-08 Thread Chris Crisafulli
I confirm that it does take a lot longer to open the same document in
evince, but even so it downloaded (all 25 MB) and opened fully rendered
in less than a minute. Opening it after saving it took about 40 seconds
to fully render. Acrobat took approximately 10 seconds, I don't believe
this is an evince issue, I think they are just taking advantage of some
proprietary shortcuts when rendering/caching that file through acrobat.
If I were you I would continue opening documents of this calibre with
the Acrobat reader instead. With that being said I am going to mark this
as invalid.

Poppler is the rendering library that evince uses for pdf files. They
have a bugzilla link at the bottom of the page. I would recommend that
you register and submit a bug there if you would like to give the
poppler developers feedback. I would make sure you put the link there as
well so that they can pull down the file and see the issue firsthand.

Thanks for sumbitting this regardless!

Chris

[Bug 315353] [NEW] gnome-volume-manager broken

2009-01-08 Thread John McHugh
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-volume-manager

Before gnome volume manager would give you several options in the
preferences pane, oss, alsa and a load of pulse audio options. Now only
one soundcard using pulse audio and my usb mic on my webcam are shown in
the preferences dialog. At least I think its using pulseaudio, the name
of the card is HDA Nvdia(Alsa Mixer) but I am able to view the audio
streams for individual apps from gnome-volume-control. It looks like
pulse audio is being used also when troubleshooting in pavcontrol.

Here in lies the first problem, its reporting it as alsa is the mixer
when its really using the pulse audio mixer, that's insane :(

Second problem : So for some odd reason pulse audio still doesn't detect
the right amount of channels to use instead defaulting to two even when
using a 7.1 speaker system. After manually changing settings in a config
file(why is this problem still here after several releases with
pulseaudio included in ubuntu) the settings work with pavcontrol but
with gnome-volume-manager I still only have control of the master
output, no control over any of the speakers or the subwoofer.

[Bug 315331] [NEW] Won't eject after DataDVD burn

2009-01-08 Thread Paul Messier
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: brasero

I'm using Basero 0.8.2 on Ubuntu 8.10 with Ubuntu Studio.

I expect the disc to eject after the DataDVD burn.

I have the eject disc option selected, but the DataDVD will not eject
after it burns. When the task is complete the drive - an external USB
Drive (Sony - DRX800UL) - picks up speed and reads the disk as though I
had just inserted it, and then it gives me an error - can't remember
exactly what it says, though.

The disc always burns correctly so there's no problem there.

If I burn an Audio CD it ejects just fine, and stays open till I close
the tray.

That's it, I think.

Thanks

I think this bug is related with LP: #225615, supposedly fixed in Jaunty
but not (yet?) in Intrepid and Hardy.

Re: [Bug 312078] Re: I insert a DVD which contains several pdfs, but the the File browser cannot display the contents of the DVD.

2009-01-08 Thread jfrr
1. The DVD disc was inserted in two different DVD drives. One in a old
machine (Pentoium III) and another in a new machine (Athlon X2 64bit).

2. Yes, I can see other DVDs. I know the DVD player is good. The point is
that this particular DVD with so many pdfs in the root of the DVD can be
read it by WinXP, but not by Linux and to me that is a bug in Linux.

3. I suppose I can move the data to another media, like a USB drive but I
don't see the point to do that because I can see the contents in Windows.
Really I'm only reporting a bug in Linux.

Yes, the DVD is a new drive.

Really, the problem is the same in different machines, one old with a
Pentium III and another with a Athlon X2 64bit.

2009-01-08 Thread jfrr
No, I can't.

$ cd /media/cdrom0
bash: cd: /media/cdrom0: Permission denied

However, I can hear music in a CD inserted in the same drive. Too, I can
hear music of a movie, but Totem cannot display it (this is another
problem.)

[Bug 306557] [NEW] won't open an http uri

2009-01-08 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: totem

Release: Intrepid, x86 (i.e. 32bit)

Maybe this is a PEBKAC and I'm just expecting things to be too
intuitive, but trying something as simple as:

totem http://site/path/to/video.mp4

doesn't actually stream and play the video. Totem reports:

$ totem http://site/path/to/video.mp4
** (totem:5083): DEBUG: Init of Python module

It would appear that totem is stripping off the http://site portion of
the URI and expecting the file to exist locally.

[Bug 315255] Re: screen brightness control stopped working with 2.6.27-11

2009-01-08 Thread frapell
mmmhh... i think this is a problem related to the kernel and not to
"gnome-power-manager" as:
1) i do not use it, i'm using Kubuntu 8.10 (KDE 4.2)
2) the problem appeared when i upgraded my kernel version to 2.6.27-11, with
2.6.27-10 works fine

I will try to download a fresh new kubuntu live cd and try what you're
suggesting.

[Bug 296673] Re: Nautilus failes connecting to IOMEGA NAS Drives!

2009-01-08 Thread craigb
Hi...I'm also having the same issue on Ubuntu 8.10 but it only seems to
occur when I try to open one particular folder on the samba share (my
iTunes music folder on a USB disk attached to an Airport Extreme router)
it unmounts immediately and returns me to my home folder, posting the
same segfault error as in the first post above. All other folders on
this share work ok and it was all working fine until a week or so ago,
but not sure which update (if any) may have triggered it.

I've also tried mounting the share manually through fstab but this seems
to make things worse. The share will mount ok but when I browse any of
the folders on the share then Ubuntu randomly locks up completely.
However this could be just my inexperience with fstab, but I would
prefer not to have to mount the share manually anyway :D

[Bug 315305] [NEW] battery won't charge until critically low - dell XPS M1210

2009-01-08 Thread bob6.0
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

I have a dual-boot ubuntu/XP system running mostly in linux.
When running Ubuntu (intrepid) I plug-in my AC adapter and it runs strictly on
the AC not charging the laptop battery... it will say "Computer is running on
AC Power, Laptop battery charging (23.1%), Battery charge time is currently
unknown" Best part is... this message never changes and the battery doesn't get
charged at all.

I have checked the battery on XP and as soon as I plug the AC in the
battery begins charging.

What exactly is going on here? I can only charge this laptop in Windows
which is a nightmare, I hate having to switch OS for the battery.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

[Bug 315302] [NEW] audio shortly distorted after unpausing .mov file

2009-01-08 Thread Anton Kraus
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

Whenever I unpause .mov files in totem (gstreamer), the audio pitch
jumps for a second before returning to normal.

This doesn't happen using VLC or mplayer.

Totem reports that the affected files use QDesign Music v.2 as their
audio codec. Some in stereo at 22050 Hz, others in mono at 32000 Hz.

I'm running Intrepid with the latest updates (as of 2009/01/09). Totem

[Bug 315120] Re: Screen wont dim

2009-01-08 Thread Lupine
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this
bug as a bug in gnome-power-manager.

For future reference you might be interested to know that a lot of
applications have bug reporting functionality built in to them. This can
be accessed via the Report a Problem option in the Help menu for the
application with which you are having an issue. You can learn more about
this feature at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

Also, I've been unable to reproduce your issue on Ubuntu 8.10. Can you
reproduce this issue with an Ubuntu LIVE CD and report back if the
problem still exists on Ubuntu 8.10 LIVE CD?

[Bug 315301] [NEW] Tab names can't always be set via --title

2009-01-08 Thread Bryce Harrington
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

If I run gnome-terminal like this:

 cp ~/.bashrc ~/.bashrc-orig
 cp /etc/skel/.bashrc ~
gnome-terminal --active --title "Default" --tab --title "Bash" -e "bash" --tab
--title "Emacs" -e "emacs" --tab --title "NoRC" -e "bash --norc"

The third and fourth tabs show up named correctly, "Emacs" and "NoRC".

If I append "unset PS1" to the end of the .bashrc, it makes all the tabs
show up properly. Of course, then I only get the default command line
prompts in the session.

The expected behavior (IMHO) is that if --title is explicitly set on the
command line, then it should be used preferentially to the prompt.

My use case is I start up gnome-terminal from ~/.xsession pre-seeded
with multiple tabs each running a different command, and I like to name
each tab to differentiate them.

2009-01-08 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Ubuntu 8.10

This bug is for the workspace switcher that is installed by default and
sits in the lower right of the screen. When I go to "About" it tells me
it is called "Workspace Switcher 2.24.1".

Trigger: Clicking on a workspace in the switcher.
What I expected to happen: The system would change to that workspace.
What happened instead: The system did nothing - almost like it didn't even
register the click.
Work-around: Inside CompizConfig I did not have Desktop Wall enabled. Enabling
Desktop Wall makes the Workspace Switcher behave how I expect it should.
Disabling Desktop Wall stops Workspace Switcher from working again.

I have this too. Ubuntu 8.10
I tried disabling compiz, but that did not help.

Steps to reproduce:
1) Places -> connect to server
2) Choose Windows share, connect to a windows share
3) A folder will appear on the desktop for the mounted share
4) Right click on the folder, the "Paste Into Folder" option flickers.

I have attached a video of this. It's mpg inside avi, sorry I don't
have anything to encode better yet.

This problem went away for me after upgrading the video card from a 64MB

Didier,

I think that the "everyone" agreeing that it would be better to switch
user groups dynamically probably didn't include many security people,
since all the security people I know would run screaming at the
suggestion of allowing external modification of the group privileges of
a running process. ;)

be displayed four times.

Similar to bug 305162, this is easy to fix by changing a few constants
in the .glade files. The attached debdiff gets rid of the warnings. See

[Bug 302017] Re: evince didn't respond when changing page in PDF

2009-01-08 Thread Martin Zuther
Hi Pedro,

unfortunately I'm not able to reproduce the problem. I chose to report
it anyway, as I thought maybe you could make something of it or that it
might be the missing link to an already known problem.

If it happens again I'll try a backtrace, but to be honest, chances are
pretty low.

This may be down to me installing 7zip support since the last bug

[Bug 315221] [NEW] evolution 2.24.2 add google cal-type, then delete that google calendar, get `CAMEL_IS_STORE (store)' failed

2009-01-08 Thread clarkkentjt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Was trying to setup a calendar sync to my google calendar, wasn't
sync'ing. I deleted the Evo calendar google-type, then noticed any ical
calendar invites no longer get added to my Evo calendar. Tried to do an
import, single file type, no error and no calendar entry. The ical no
longer shows up as an attachment either.

It's possible I left the new Evo Google calendar as the default. My suspicion
is Evolution set the new calendar as the default, I deleted it, now the issue.
I tried to create the google-cal again in Evo, setting my personal calendar as
default, thinking that would help, but nope.
I tried removing my local folder db file (after a backup), but did not fix.

The error debug is:

Tried using evo's 'report a problem' but the webpage reported error:
