[Bug 378873] Re: Network shares unmount during file transfer
* Yes, I've attempted such a transfer several times and each time has always gotten hung up at some point. To my knowledge, I've never had a transfer of such a size complete normally - I must either copy the files in smaller groups, or manually mount the share from the command line in order to transfer everything at once. * Ultimately I'm not aware of anything special I did to trigger the hang. I just browsed to a Windows network share (this one happens to be hosted on Windows XP, but I will check to see if the same thing occurs on shares hosted by other OS's) via Places->Network and attempted to copy a large amount of data to a local directory. After some time (I've never seen a transfer successfully continue past 45 minutes (or roughly 20GB with our network speed)) the transfer will just hang, not making any progress and impossible to cancel without logging out. Further investigation reveals that the share is no longer mounted in ~/.gvfs. I've checked other distros to see if this is a generic problem, but not even Debian has had this issue when transferring the same files from the same share, so this appears to be unique to Ubuntu. -- Network shares unmount during file transfer https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/378873 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 382551] Re: Evolution 2.26.1 on 9.04 connecting to Exchange 2003 - crashes when you delete a document
Hello Marc, thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better! This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this bug as a bug in evolution. For future reference you might be interested to know that a lot of applications have bug reporting functionality built in to them. This can be accessed via the Report a Problem option in the Help menu for the application with which you are having an issue. [Bug 378499] Re: can not forward with keys when watching a movie in Totem
Yes, it is reproducible. and it still happening. I have ubuntu karmic koala 32-bit alpha 2 installed in a Compaq Presario F730 US, AMD Athlon X2, nVidia Go6100 ...etc, compiz fusion... etc. Steps to reproduce it. 1) Navigate in nautilus to a folder containing movies... my case 700MB AVI movies. 2) click (default open wiyth Movie Player in Gnome... Totem) 3) When starts to reproduce it, press the right arrow and hold on to forward in the movie 4) stop pressing the right key when the cursor indicator is in desired time position the bug ---> now the movie starts from the beginning again... Note: i noticed that keeping pressed the right key in order to forward the whole movie (the cursor reached the end of timeline) press "play" again because the movie stops it self when reached teh end... and now you can "in most of cases" repeat steps 1 to 4 avobe and obtain the expected result ---> movie shown from the desired cursor position. But this may be not result in all cases may be due to high CPU load or something hope it helps... someone else noticed this? may be compiz? -- can not forward with keys when watching a movie in Totem https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/378499 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 214370] Re: Logout/Shutdown Sound Not Working
This is not a pulseaudio bug. The underlying issue is that gnome- session does not run the shutdown scripts in /usr/share/gnome/shutdown. gnome-session-canberra puts a script in that directory that plays the logout sound. It just never gets run. I've filed a patch in the linked GNOME bug to fix this. [Bug 315970] Re: g-p-m keeps disk spinning
>> and may lead to early hard drive failure. > Not true. HDD are made for constant spinning. They can spin for several many > month constantly without problems. Actually I misspoke: in my case, g-p-m is causing excessive spin-down & spin-up cycles, not preventing it from spinning down. On battery, my HDD spins down after about 20 seconds of inactivity. Then 60 seconds later g-p-m writes to disk and causes it to spin up. Then 20 seconds later it spins down again... and repeat. Therefore, for me the title of this bug should be "g-p-m causing excessive HDD spin cycles". The bug is the same as you observed, but the effect seems to be different depending on your HDPARM or other HDD settings while on battery. -- g-p-m keeps disk spinning https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/315970 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

m4cph1sto, thanks for the information. I - reporter - already have removed g-p-m from my system so couldn't provide the info. > personally I think this is a bug because this behavior prevents the hard drive from spinning down and thus shortens battery life Very true. > and may lead to early hard drive failure. Not true. HDD are made for constant spinning. They can spin for several many month constantly without problems. In fact, spin-down & spin-up cycle is limited "resource" and does shorten life of HDDs. Negligibly, yet it does. (I heard laptop HDDs are tested for something like 100K spin-down-spin-up cycles.) But of course in context of laptops, this is clear bug. My personal problems are: battery life and heat. In fact, I'd say heat is bigger issue than battery life. As hard drive spins constantly, my notebook (namely the part where HDD is) heats up so much that I cannot keep it on my lap anymore. -- g-p-m keeps disk spinning https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/315970 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 382237] Re: Visual corruption of text in irc chat
I was using Consolas 8 in xchat-gnome, and other apps that use a fixed width font. gnome-terminal, which I use regularly with Consolas 8, does not exhibit this problem - ever, even when using irssi (another irc application).
