[Bug 382634] [NEW] rhythmbox plugins missing - Karmic

2009-06-01 Thread greatday
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

With the latest rhythmbox update in Karmic, I restarted the program and
found that some of the plugins were missing, such as the Jamendo and
magnatune plugins, among others. Was this intended, or does it happen
every time rhythmbox is updated?

2009-06-01 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

Received the following error when connecting the camera with USB - this
has worked previously:

Error connecting to camera
Received error "Could not lock the device" while connecting to camera

Also received the following error:

Error connecting to camera
Received error "Unspecified error" while connecting to camera

Camera usually does not mount. Cannot import using F-Spot. Occasionaly
camera will mount, but still cannot import. Unmounting camera and
starting F-Spot does not correct the problem.

This is a repeatable error.

bug that needs to be addressed, since the average user won't know to use
gconf-editor or read through bug reports to fix it.

2009-06-01 Thread kylea
I can also confirm this behaviour in 64bit Jaunty, I have turned off the
loading of images and the Exchange connector.

I'll try a few combinations and see what (if anything) causes a repeat
of the problem)

Not sure if its related - but when I have a message open and select
"Load Images" - the display window does not visibly render anything -
although the mouse-over events fire as the status line changes as the
mouse is moved around the window.

[Bug 382626] Re: Nautilus location bar toggle icon implies unrelated function

2009-06-01 Thread Murat Güneş
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: human-icon-theme

(Filed as per the UDS-Karmic "Death by a 100 paper cuts" session, where
the issue was cited as and agreed to be an example of a design "paper
  cut".)

- The icon used in the button that toggles the Nautilus address bar (in
- browser mode) between icon and text modes does not illustrate the
- function of the button. Instead, it suggests that the function may be
- something related to writing things on paper, the digital analogues of
- which would be text editing or word processing, for which we have
- preinstalled software that is to be launched in a different way (i.e.
- going to the "Applications" menu), and (it was cited that) user testing
- has shown people tend to click this button when prompted to write
- something. It's also worth noting that The "Designing Effective Icons"
- article of the GNOME HIG [1] refers to an effectively identical
- variation of this icon as "A functionally suggestive icon for a word
- processor".

A toggle button with pressed / not pressed states is not ideal for
conveying the information required of the button in this case. We don't
want to convey whether the bar is "in text mode or not"; we want to
convey precisely which of the two available modes it is in. The GNOME
HIG also recommends against using a single toggle button in isolation
  [2].

The solution would be to either modify Nautilus, preferably upstream, to
have a regular stateless button that displays a "Switch to text mode"
icon when in button mode, and vice versa, and design those respective
icons, and/or (maybe as a temporary measure until that happens) design a
replacement icon that does not suggest word processing functionality and
  better illustrates the current one.

menu), and (it was cited that) user testing has shown people tend to
click this button when prompted to write something. It's also worth
noting that The "Designing Effective Icons" article of the GNOME HIG [1]
refers to an effectively identical variation of this icon as "A
functionally suggestive icon for a word processor".

[Bug 382565] [NEW] The word "PLAY" should change to "STOP" when tune is playing.

2009-06-01 Thread Davedog
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

About Rhythmbox 0.12.0

1. This isn't really a bug - just a usability issue.

I reckon when one clicks on the PLAY icon (and the tune starts playing),
the image and text of the icon should change to reflect the fact that it
has become a STOP icon.

2. It crashes when I click on "Visualisations". May be something to do
with needing a Graphics Plug=in. I am a new user of Ubuntu and on a
steep learning curve.

Many thanks for the App - it is terrific.

[Bug 378873] Re: Network shares unmount during file transfer

2009-06-01 Thread nonoitall
* Yes, I've attempted such a transfer several times and each time has
always gotten hung up at some point. To my knowledge, I've never had a
transfer of such a size complete normally - I must either copy the files
in smaller groups, or manually mount the share from the command line in
order to transfer everything at once.

* Ultimately I'm not aware of anything special I did to trigger the
hang. I just browsed to a Windows network share (this one happens to be
hosted on Windows XP, but I will check to see if the same thing occurs
on shares hosted by other OS's) via Places->Network and attempted to
copy a large amount of data to a local directory. After some time (I've
never seen a transfer successfully continue past 45 minutes (or roughly
20GB with our network speed)) the transfer will just hang, not making
any progress and impossible to cancel without logging out. Further
investigation reveals that the share is no longer mounted in ~/.gvfs.

I've checked other distros to see if this is a generic problem, but not
even Debian has had this issue when transferring the same files from the
same share, so this appears to be unique to Ubuntu.

2009-06-01 Thread HavocXphere
>What is 'interesting' is that I don't see any gnome program except
>gnome-terminal that needs that workaround
Not 100% convinced about this. I've had lots of "gksu nautilus" commands
mysteriously failing lately (from ALT-F2). Exact same behaviourrequests
password and then nothing. The annoying thing is that it happens randomly & I
can't duplicate it right now. :(

Might just be a co-incidence...but its been annoying me for some time
now.

[Bug 382551] Re: Evolution 2.26.1 on 9.04 connecting to Exchange 2003 - crashes when you delete a document

2009-06-01 Thread Michael Rooney
Hello Marc, thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping
to make Ubuntu better! This bug did not have a package associated with
it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this
bug as a bug in evolution.

For future reference you might be interested to know that a lot of
applications have bug reporting functionality built in to them. This
can be accessed via the Report a Problem option in the Help menu for the
application with which you are having an issue. You can learn more
about this feature at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 378499] Re: can not forward with keys when watching a movie in Totem

2009-06-01 Thread Santiago
Yes, it is reproducible. and it still happening. I have ubuntu karmic
koala 32-bit alpha 2 installed in a Compaq Presario F730 US, AMD Athlon
X2, nVidia Go6100 ...etc, compiz fusion... etc.

Steps to reproduce it.

1) Navigate in nautilus to a folder containing movies... my case 700MB AVI
movies.
2) click (default open wiyth Movie Player in Gnome... Totem)
3) When starts to reproduce it, press the right arrow and hold on to forward in
the movie
4) stop pressing the right key when the cursor indicator is in desired time
position

the bug ---> now the movie starts from the beginning again...

Note: i noticed that keeping pressed the right key in order to forward
the whole movie (the cursor reached the end of timeline) press "play"
again because the movie stops it self when reached teh end... and now
you can "in most of cases" repeat steps 1 to 4 avobe and obtain the
expected result ---> movie shown from the desired cursor position. But
this may be not result in all cases may be due to high CPU load or
something

hope it helps...
someone else noticed this? may be compiz?

Yes, it's reproducible
1- Setup more then one email account in Evolution.
2- When you click on Send/Receive, notice no option to do Send/Receive for a
specific account, the action Send/Receive will apply for all email accounts,
user should have the choice to do this action for all account or specific
account(s).

[Bug 382523] Re: gstreamer library error

2009-06-01 Thread rhb
This may be a duplicate of Bug #368763.

Instead of totem, I use swfdec to play .swf's in firefox.

Swfdec (as a firefox plugin) shows it's starting to play. Nothing happens.
Gnash (playing downloaded file) a similar startup image. Again nothing happens.

Only Totem gave a distinct error message.

[Bug 214370] Re: Logout/Shutdown Sound Not Working

2009-06-01 Thread Michael Terry
This is not a pulseaudio bug. The underlying issue is that gnome-
session does not run the shutdown scripts in /usr/share/gnome/shutdown.
gnome-session-canberra puts a script in that directory that plays the
logout sound. It just never gets run.

I've filed a patch in the linked GNOME bug to fix this. Will put up a
debdiff here if they like it.

Uhm. And fixed ASAP for Jaunty. That's what most of the leading edge

2009-06-01 Thread Peter Belmont
The description is not clear?
OK, let me try again.
What I WANT is to locate a folder in the file system, and then
RIGHT-CLICK "TERMINAL" and as a result find myself with a NEW TERMINAL
WINDOW OPEN "at" the designated folder ("at" in the sense of "cd").

This is not what happens. Right-click on "terminal" merely opens a
"terminal" window "at" "~".

[Bug 377475] Re: Nautilus cancels file copy process

I have the same problem. It first occured with the Netbook Remix
(Jaunty). Now i have formatted my my disk and re-installed Jaunty with
the alternate CD (with full disk encryption). Then i installed the
netbook-remix package to get this nice netbook-launcher.

I reproduced the bug several times. Here is what i did:

I opened a terminal

$ mkdir mydir && cd mydir
$ dd if=/dev/zero of=blob bs=1G count=1
$ nautilus

Now i changed to 'mydir', highlighted the file 'blob', pressed CTRL+c,
then CTRL-v, i waited untill the file operation window appeared and
closed the nautilus window before the file operation has finished.

Here is the terminal output of nautilus:

I hope this is enough information to reopen this bug. Oh, and you should

[Bug 315970] Re: g-p-m keeps disk spinning

2009-06-01 Thread m4cph1sto
>> and may lead to early hard drive failure.
> Not true. HDD are made for constant spinning. They can spin for several many

Actually I misspoke: in my case, g-p-m is causing excessive spin-down &
spin-up cycles, not preventing it from spinning down. On battery, my
HDD spins down after about 20 seconds of inactivity. Then 60 seconds
later g-p-m writes to disk and causes it to spin up. Then 20 seconds
later it spins down again... and repeat.

Therefore, for me the title of this bug should be "g-p-m causing
excessive HDD spin cycles". The bug is the same as you observed, but
the effect seems to be different depending on your HDPARM or other HDD
settings while on battery.

> personally I think this is a bug because this behavior prevents the

Very true.

> and may lead to early hard drive failure.

Not true. HDD are made for constant spinning. They can spin for several many
month constantly without problems.
In fact, spin-down & spin-up cycle is limited "resource" and does shorten life
of HDDs. Negligibly, yet it does. (I heard laptop HDDs are tested for something
like 100K spin-down-spin-up cycles.)

But of course in context of laptops, this is clear bug.

My personal problems are: battery life and heat. In fact, I'd say heat
is bigger issue than battery life. As hard drive spins constantly, my
notebook (namely the part where HDD is) heats up so much that I cannot
keep it on my lap anymore.

$/HOME/.gnome2/gnome-power-manager/profile-

While it may be nice for some people to have g-p-m provide a battery
discharging graph, personally I think this is a bug because this
behavior prevents the hard drive from spinning down and thus shortens
battery life and may lead to early hard drive failure.

[Bug 382203] Re: Evince flashes wildly when hovering mouse over hyperlink in fullscreen mode

2009-06-01 Thread Olivers De Abreu
To recreate this bug you must follow the next steps:

1. Open any PDF with hyperlinks
2. Select in the menu Edit>Fullscreen or press the F11 key
3. Hover the mouse over any hyperlink in the text

Result: the screen start flashing

After a couple of test I discover that the problem is not evince but the
Compiz Effects, when I deactivate Compiz the bug dissapear.

I hope this helps
