[Bug 372132] Re: Create Document Templates difficult to use

2009-07-14 Thread Scott Ritchie
Might I suggest this:

Create a ~/Templates folder by default (by placing it in /etc/skel), and
populate it with symbolic links to new template files located at
/usr/share/default-templates (this is a new directory, and files in
here do not show up as templates by default, unlike
/usr/share/templates).

This can be done entirely with a separate package (default-templates)
and shouldn't bother upstream. It will allow the user to remove a
template (by deleting the symbolic link), and allow us to update a
template (by updating the package).

The downside is that we can't add any new templates to an existing
user's folder when they upgrade, but that's also the situation today. I
don't see an easy way of allowing users to delete templates while also
shipping a default set, not without upstream code changes.

Re: [Bug 396459] Re: auto-login settings not migrated

2009-07-14 Thread Martin Pitt
Hello Dave,

Dave Stroud [2009-07-13 11:19 -]:
I used the login window utility from system/administration/login
window. This is not here anymore.

Indeed, there's a separate bug for that. Robert Ancell wants to look
into writing a replacement.

I have now gone into all of gdm conf. AutomaticLoginEnable=true
 AutomaticLogin=bigdavesr files
  # Timed
login, useful for kiosks. Log in a certain user after a certain amount
 # of time.
 TimedLoginEnable=true
 TimedLogin=bigdavesr
 TimedLoginDelay=10
They all look like above now. They still dont
 work. thanks

They need to be in custom.conf now (which is what above migration code
does).

[Bug 150177] Re: Deskbar applet freezes any time whatever I ask

2009-07-14 Thread hnrkg
It seems like I might have the same problem. Whenever I type something,
let's say 'Documnts'. And because it's misspelled I hit backspace to
correct it, but then Deskbar freezes.

Similarly, I have to kill deskbar-applet to make it reload. One other
thing is that when I move the cursor over the input field it
'disappears' -- very strange.

I have tried to run it from CLI to get any errors messages, but no luck.
It doesn't tell me anything.

[Bug 397734] Re: can't eject unmounted cdrom with hardware button

2009-07-14 Thread anatoly techtonik
Pretty much reproducible. Nothing specific is required - just insert the
disk, unmount it from computer location and push eject button to see
that nothing happens. Additional annoyance is that unmount requires
authorization. Anything else I can turn on to debug this misbehaviour?

Ok, I will do that. I am currently working on a redo of the xml help

believe help files need to be up-to-date before Ubuntu can truly be
ready for the desktop and don't mind lending a hand.

Because the Open verb needs to be treated as a noun , since we are describing

But there is *no* Open in the Startup Applications, rather only names of

Also simply expanding a name Long name , wouldnt be a description.

[Bug 192579] Re: shares-admin sometimes doesnt synch with smb.conf

2009-07-14 Thread freakalad
Still seeing this issue in Jaunty-64, including mint

When creating a samba share via shared-admin or webmin (quick easy),
share details show up in /etc/samba/smb.conf

When creating the share(s) via nautilus, right-click, sharing options
(File Manager: Folder Sharing), the shares don't feature in smb.conf of
share-admin utility. Not sure at all where the latter settings are
stored or how it's accessed (no leads from smb.conf).

On mint system, shares created in one utility do not show up in any of
the others (may have to confirm this again on other systems @ work)

Seems to point to a inconsistency in samba configuration sharing

[Bug 399189] [NEW] [karmic] fullscreen does not work in f-spot

2009-07-14 Thread Chris Jones
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: f-spot

When I select to view a photo in fullscreen, or use a slideshow view, I
see a taskbar entry for the fullscreen window, but it doesn't actually
appear. It seems to grab keyboard focus though, because pressing Escape
makes it go away.

[Bug 379799] Re: Video freezes at pass in a full-screen mode

2009-07-14 Thread andre
Sorry for posting again, I should have tried this first:

this only happens with visual effects enabled, so it seems to be a
Compiz issue. When disabling visual effects, everything works fine.

I found some bug reports which reported similar but mentioned that the
computer freezes. In my case, only the video output on the external
screen freezes. Everything else works as usual.

[Bug 372132] Re: Create Document Templates difficult to use

2009-07-14 Thread Sebastien Bacher
we discussed the topic on IRC again yesterday, some notes:

 * where to ship the templates?
- in each application? in which case you can easily have duplicate office
templates for openoffice and abiword for example
- in a template package? it's easy to install but lack granularity, what to do
if the corresponding application is not installed?
- in a extra binary for each application, texteditor-template?

* in what directory to install those? using a cross desktop one or a
GNOME specific dir? some people use non GNOME applications on GNOME

* do we need a way for users to mask system templates they are not
using? how do we do that? do we need a template editor?

I did some experimenting with the test file last night. I see the same

whatnot at the GStreamer level. That makes me think it's a Rhythmbox

Re: [Bug 397980] Re: evolution deletes all e-mails in a folder after renaming

2009-07-14 Thread Wim Boon
Thanks for your quick response.

The problem is reproducible:
Steps:
-create a new main folder with name 'test1'
-in folder 'test1' create subfolder 'test2'
-move some messages e.g. from the 'removed messages' folder into folder
'test1'
-move a message from folder 'test1' into folder 'test2'
-rename folder 'test1' to 'test3'.
-move one message from folder 'test3' into subfolder 'test2'. after
completion of this action folder 'test3' contains no messages. only the
subfolder 'test2' is present.
-subfolder 'test2' contains only the message that was moved into this
subfolder in the previous step.the message move earlier into this
subfolder has disappeared.

I repeated this test as follows:
-create a new main folder with name 'test1'.
-in folder 'test1' create subfolder 'test2'.
-in subfolder 'test2' create subsubfolder 'testx'.
-move messages into 'test1', 'test2' and testx'.
-rename 'test1' to 'test3'.
-move a message from 'test1' into 'testx'. : 'test3' lost all messages,
the messages in 'test2' survived, 'testx' contained only the message
moved just into this subsubfolder.

Hope this helps to solve the problem.
Best regards

Wim Boon

[Bug 372132] Re: Create Document Templates difficult to use

That's what I wanted to say in a comment on a duplicate of this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/hundredpapercuts/+bug/387655/comments/12
The top bar of nautilus (like used in Trash) should explain what this folder is
about.

Status in “gnome-power-manager” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete

 gnome-power-manager

I know most reports of this nature concern notebooks, but this is a desktop.
gpm screen opens OK, but immediately after trying to move sliders system goes
 to hard freeze,
must reboot. This is a fresh install.  Able to edit screen blank/sleep
options with gconf which worked OK.
System: Zotac GF9300-A-E (nvidia 730i/9300) integrated graphics

The following is from another poster with the same motherboard chipset:

System: Asus P5N7A-VM (nvidia 730i/9300) integrated graphics motherboard.

 ubuntu 9.04 + nvidia 180 driver
Opening power management from the system - preferences menu causes the
computer to hang 100% of the time. The mouse pointer moves, but nothing is
selectable and the computer has to be reset via the power switch.

 ubuntu 9.04 + nvidia 173 driver
Power management will open but appears as a completely blank window.
Minimising reopening a few times gets the sleep time slider bars to appear,
but nothing appears to work. However dragging the sliders with the mouse does
change the setting - it just isn't visible until you minimise and reopen the
window again. N.B. The 173 graphics driver is no good for me, lots of
corruption and web pages don't show properly

 ubuntu 8.10 + nvidia 177 driver
Opening power management causes a system freeze and the sliders don't work,
 or the window appears blank

[Bug 343219] Re: Adding Fast User Switcher applet causes shut down options to disappear from System menu

2009-07-14 Thread marmuta
I hate to have to decide between shutdown entries in the system menu and using
the FUSA. It just had to be be done again as I installed Jaunty for a friend.
She expected to be able to shutdown by menu and couldn't figure out how to do
it on her own. She does switch accounts for the family occasionally but values
shutting down by keyboard more.
In the end we deleted FUSA. Why on earth does one have to choose one or the
other?

Design decision or not, IMO this fits exactly the above description of a
paper cut.
