[Bug 273142] Re: screensaver won't release with mouse movement

2009-07-27 Thread Tim Potter
Ramon,

I think that this bug definately fits the description of a usability bug
that a new user can run into very early in his or her introduction to
Ubuntu, since this affects a significant number of screensavers, (all
screen savers that use opengl it seems).

However, I'm not sure if it would be considered "trivally fixable" which
is the kind of bugs that they are looking for.

I have nominated it for the hundred paper cuts project, so that it can
be reviewed. I hope that it is considered to qualify.

[Bug 405146] Re: Evince crashes on document load

2009-07-27 Thread Mauricio López
I'm sorry to tell that apport doesn't do anything when the evince
crashes so I can't submit a .crash file. I followed the process you
describe in your message and apport just doesn't realize that evince
crashed. I'm an experienced GNU/Linux user, but my programming/debugging
skills are limited. If you tell me what information do you need or if
there is another way to generate a .crash file manually, I would gladly
follow the instructions.

[Bug 405620] [NEW] [Karmic] Unable to Drag & Drop folders, files within Tree View

2009-07-27 Thread pdaemon
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Description:Ubuntu karmic (development branch)

Hi,

I am using Karmic Koala, and am unable to drag and drop folders of files
to other folders/subfolders within the tree view. When I try to drag a
folder and drop it, there is no indication that this has tried to occur.

I expected to be able to drag folders and sub-folders around as I would
in Windows Explorer for example.

Could this please be fixed.

Thanks Alot

Regards
Philipp

I would if I could, but I'm running Jaunty. Did I post this to the

Why did you test against Karmic? I don't even see a beta release
announced. If you need more data, just tell me what to do...in Jaunty.
But, it's probably easier to fix if you try it yourself.

[Bug 405148] Re: Laptop battery indicator indicates 0% charge when fully charged

2009-07-27 Thread Richard Cavell
Scott,

I'm adding a screenshot of "Power Statistics - Device Information",
which I can access by right clicking on the power icon.

By the way, my battery has external lights that tell me not only the
charge status of the battery, but whether or not it is currently
charging. Power Statistics always claims that it is charging, even
though it is not charging most of the time.

[Bug 405608] [NEW] Audio CD won't play (from CD or hard-disk files)

2009-07-27 Thread Hernando Torque
The error is caused by the patch 100_load_desired_settings.patch by
adding:

/* return NULL if the file doesn't exist */
if (!g_file_test (filename, G_FILE_TEST_EXISTS))
{
result = NULL;

return result;
}

to the function configurations_read_from_file() in libgnome-desktop
/gnome-rr-config.c, because it leaves the error passed to the function
uninitialized which later causes the error in gnome-settings-deamon's
xrandr-plugin (gsd-xrandr-manager.c, function
apply_configuration_from_filename()).

Removing that part makes the errors go away but for sure that's not a
proper fix. No patch attached since I don't know how useful patching a
patch is...

[Bug 363067] Re: F-Spot crashes during authorization when attempting Facebook export

2009-07-27 Thread Misha Koshelev
So I am trying to utilize F-Spot SVN. I am trying to compile on hardy
but am running into problems:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=7689920#post7689920

Requested 'gtk-sharp-2.0 >= 2.12.2' but version of Gtk is 2.12.1
Requested 'glib-sharp-2.0 >= 2.12.2' but version of GLib is 2.12.1
Requested 'glade-sharp-2.0 >= 2.12.2' but version of Glade is 2.12.1
Requested 'gtk+-2.0 >= 2.14' but version of GTK+ is 2.12.9
Requested 'mono >= 2.0.0' but version of Mono is 1.2.6

Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.

Any help appreciated. Thank you

Misha

[Bug 403555] Re: [i965GM] menu display problem with intel driver

2009-07-27 Thread Bryce Harrington
Rather it sounds like this is a gtk bug, if menus in those non-gtk apps are
working okay.
If you find that you can eliminate the problem by downgrading to a different
version of the video driver, you're welcome to reopen the -intel task, but
please indicate the version and provide additional evidence that it is a driver
bug.

[Bug 403555] [NEW] [i965GM] menu display problem with intel driver

2009-07-27 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

I'm using Ubuntu Karmic and since I'm using intel video driver v2.7.99
(and now v2.8.0 final) menus are not displayed properly on my window
manager (Gnome).

I'll join a screenshot but basically:
- I click on any menu in the system (gnome-taskbar, synaptic, nautilus,
xchat...)
- The grey branckground area of the menu is displayed but not the text (the
entries)
- Waiting does not change anything
- The only way to display the text if to move the cursor over the text and it
will appear one by one once the mouse is over the text.

Compiz is disabled and enabling it does not change anything.

[Bug 405073] Re: epiphany-gecko crashed with SIGSEGV

2009-07-27 Thread José Alburquerque
The epiphany-browser-dbgsym package does not seem to be available. As
soon as it is, I'd be glad to provide a backtrace. In the meanwhile, it
only happens when browsing flash content. If you want to close this
bug, I can always file a new one later when the package is available.

I also noticed that this happens in galeon so it may be something that
both of these browsers use under the hood.

[Bug 405593] [NEW] alt-f2 does not open run menu

2009-07-27 Thread P. Mohseni
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon

After upgrading to karmic (alpha 3) from Jaunty, the follow two short-
cut keys stopped working:

alt-f1 (help)
alt-f2 (used to open the "run" dialog box)

Additional details:

xev | grep -A2 --line-buffered '^KeyRelease' | sed -n '/keycode /s/^.*keycode
\([0-9]*\).* (.*, \(.*\)).*$/\1 \2/p'
64 Alt_L
68 F2
64 Alt_L
67 F1

Laptop info:
TOSHIBA
Satellite U305
PSU30U-05W012

I tried going to Systems->Preferences->Keyboard Shortcuts and put in
different key combinations for "Run dialgo box" like Ctrl-Alt-R, but
that made no difference. The "Run dialog" does not appear.

Alt-f3 which opens up the "search" applet, does work. It is just alt-f1
and alt-f2 that stopped working.

[Bug 390027] Re: Desktop effects could not be enabled

2009-07-27 Thread C de-Avillez
Same. Trying to enable compiz via System/Preferences/Appearance results
in a X restart. Forcing compiz via 'compiz --replace' works.

9.10 up-to-date, Radeon X1250. I am not sure when it started (one week
ago?); to get things back to working state under metacity I was still
forced to 'metacity --replace', since metacity seems to be defaulting to
--composite nowadays.

For me, to reproduce: all I need is to login.

[Bug 359975] Re: evince sometimes yield error "Error printing: Too many failed attempts"

2009-07-27 Thread Martin Schwenke
I'm seeing this too on an up-to-date 32-bit Jaunty install. Printing
works sometimes. Other times, even printing the same PDF from evince it
fails and I see errors like this in /var/log/cups/error_log:

  E [28/Jul/2009:08:45:20 +1000] cupsdReadClient: 10 IPP Read Error!

When printing I run wireshark and I see *no* network traffic (except
some unrelated broadcasts - definitely unrelated, they're for my
Squeezebox). That's very weird considering it is meant to be an IPP
error!

/var/log/lpr.log seems to contain this sort of thing regardless of
whether the job prints:

  Jul 28 09:15:58 hobo foo2hp2600-wrapper: foo2hp2600-wrapper -z1 -b1 -c -p9
-m1 -s7 -ol -d1 -Ghpclj2600n-1.icm
  Jul 28 09:16:05 hobo foo2hp2600-wrapper: gs -sPAPERSIZE=a4 -g4960x7016
-r600x600 -sDEVICE=bitcmyk -dCOLORSCREEN -dMaxBitmap=5
  Jul 28 09:16:05 hobo foo2hp2600-wrapper: foo2hp -r600x600 -g4960x7016 -p9 -m1
-n1 -d1 -s7 -c -b1 -u 88x84 -l 88x84   -B -A

There's plenty of disk space for the spooled job - nearly 6GB free.

Here's a description of my configuration:

* I export *raw* printer queues via IPP from a box running Debian stable. The
box isn't powerful enough to run the
   required filters to avoid this.

* I configure the printer on the client manually. The DeviceURI looks
like this:

 DeviceURI ipp://slinky.ainslie.meltin.net:631/printers/beagle

The printer uses this PPD file:

---8<---8<---8<---8<---8<---8<---8<---8<---8<---8<
*FormatVersion: "4.3"
*FileVersion:   "1.1"
*LanguageVersion: English
*LanguageEncoding: ISOLatin1
*PCFileName:"FOO2HP.PPD"
*Manufacturer:  "HP"
*Product:   "(HP Color LaserJet 1600)"
*cupsVersion:   1.0
*cupsManualCopies: True
*cupsModelNumber:  2
*cupsFilter: "application/vnd.cups-postscript 100 foomatic-rip"
*cupsFilter: "application/vnd.cups-pdf 0 foomatic-rip"
*%pprRIP:foomatic-rip other
*ModelName: "HP Color LaserJet 1600"
*ShortNickName: "HP Color LaserJet 1600 foo2hp"
*NickName: "HP Color LaserJet 1600 Foomatic/foo2hp (recommended)"
---8<---8<---8<---8<---8<---8<---8<---8<---8<---8<

I've tried switching to the very similar "HP Color LaserJet CP1215" PPD
file (since the printer is actually a CP1215) but the same amount of
random failure occurs.  :-(

Is anyone seeing this bug with anything other than an HP printer? I
wonder if foo2hp is randomly segv-ing... although there's nothing in any
logs to suggest this...

Can you please consider increasing the importance of this bug? Not
being able to print seems like a pretty serious issue...

[Bug 405543] [NEW] Unlock window doesn't show; gnome-screensaver-dialog crashes

2009-07-27 Thread Jeremy Nickurak
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

Issue: Gnome-screensaver-dialog doesn't appear

Moving the mouse or typing when the screen is locked shows me the mouse
cursor momentarily, then disappears again, without ever showing the
password dialog.

Attempting to run gnome-screensaver-dialog directly results in:

The program 'gnome-screensaver-dialog' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadClass, invalid event class'.
  (Details: serial 269 error_code 172 request_code 148 minor_code 6)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
   that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
   To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
   option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
   backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

Program exited with code 01.

I'm running gnome-screensaver 2.24.0-0ubuntu6 on jaunty.

I rebuilt the gnome-screensaver with debugging symbols, and ran:

gdb --args gnome-screensaver-daemon --sync

with "break gdk_x_error" as suggested produces the following backtrace:

This was working fine on the machine a couple of weeks ago, but there
was a power outage. Ever since the machine rebooted, locked sessions are
impossible to unlock without logging in on a terminal and manually
killing gnome-screensaver.

[Bug 405542] [NEW] gnome-panel broken patch

2009-07-27 Thread Lukas Hejtmanek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

gnome-panel 2.27.4-0ubuntu3 contains patch
16_compiz_workspace_switcher.patch which is stupid.

It produces code:
static void
pager_update (PagerData *pager)
{
wnck_pager_set_orientation (WNCK_PAGER (pager->pager),
pager->orientation);
wnck_pager_set_n_rows (WNCK_PAGER (pager->pager),
   pager->n_rows);

if (pager->wm == PAGER_WM_METACITY) {
wnck_pager_set_show_all (WNCK_PAGER (pager->pager),
 pager->display_all);
wnck_pager_set_display_mode (WNCK_PAGER (pager->pager),
 pager->display_mode);
} else {
wnck_pager_set_show_all (WNCK_PAGER (pager->pager),
 FALSE);
wnck_pager_set_display_mode (WNCK_PAGER (pager->pager),
 WNCK_PAGER_DISPLAY_CONTENT);
}
}

Every other WM than METACITY is forced to show only the current
workspace, e.g. Openbox WM. This is definitely not what users want. It
should be fixed or completely removed.

[Bug 405515] [NEW] evolution send link not highlighted

2009-07-27 Thread David Oxland
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I've got a problem with Evolution,.
I've been getting comments from people to whom I send links that the links are
not clickable (highlighted recently.)
If I'm at a website if Firefox and go File/Send Link Evolution mail opens
with mail to window as it should
In the body section is pasted the link,but recently, not highlighted as a
clickable link.
RemarkablyPutting a space infront of the link makes it clickable.
Checking Evolution, Preferences, Composer preferences, Forward style setting is
at inline and changing does not help

[Bug 293949] Re: no way to ignore dis/connect messages

2009-07-27 Thread EmmaJane
I tested the GUI option in 0.26.1 in Ubuntu 9.04 and it does now work.

The command still throws up the error that is defined above. I'm not
sure if this is a problem with IRC or with xchat-gnome; however, the bug
was for a GUI option, so I've closed the bug.
