[Bug 437489] Re: main window deformed by cover art

2009-09-26 Thread Dale Jefferson
I've just tested this with Ubuntu 9.10 and Rhythbox 0.12.5 and I can not
reproduce the issue, the album art gets to a max size of ~300px and does
not grow any bigger. Attached is a screenshot.

[Bug 437505] [NEW] man page of gnome-volume-control is not updated

2009-09-26 Thread David Henningsson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-media

according to man page, there is a switch "gnome-volume-control
--device=", but when I try to use that switch, gnome-volume-
control tells me that there is no such switch, so apparently the man
page is not updated.

[Bug 437478] [NEW] can't resize file name field

2009-09-26 Thread etxkesa
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I have opened the file explorer, but the size of the file name field
seems to be fixed as a proportion of the window size. The directory in
question contains image files imported from a digital camera, so they
are all named imgxxx.jpg but I can't shorten the file name part of the
window to be able to more clearly see the other parts of the file list
view.

[Bug 97158] Re: window title doesn't show a CD's volume name

2009-09-26 Thread psarhjinian
This happens with other removable media as well. Insert a FAT-formatted
flashdrive without a volume label; the side pane and desktop icons read
"1.0 GB Filesystem" or suchlike, while nautilus pulls the name from
/media as it's window title (eg "330B-5F85 File Browser"). Nautilus
should pull the "friendlier" window title, not the raw name from
/media/mount

Happens in Karmic alpha 6, updated to 20090926

[Bug 417491] Re: Rhythmbox fails to stop suspend process in karmic

2009-09-26 Thread Jean-François Fortin Tam
Upstream gnome has a patch for this, but they seem unsure about applying
it. Maybe Ubuntu can help here, either by refining the patch so that it
satisfies upstream, or by servicing the ubuntu user base by applying the
patch to the ubuntu packages, so that there are no "bad surprises" when
Karmic final is released.

I would really hate to loose this feature, I depend on this to use my
laptop as a music player in the public transit.

[Bug 203527] Re: Clicking on clock applet hangs gnome-panel

2009-09-26 Thread Dhruva Sagar
I have the same error. I have realized that the error is related to evolution
data center.
I have found this solution to un-hang gnome-panel :

evolution --force-shutdown

Once you execute that command the gnome-panel comes back to normal.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be
reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the
development release - Karmic Koala. It would help us greatly if you
could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next
release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release
at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/. Thanks again and we appreciate your

Users may mistakenly think that they or Ubuntu has misconfigured

1) The reasons desktop effects can not be enabled is that their hardware is

[Bug 437415] [NEW] cdrom0 and floppy0 not physically present

2009-09-26 Thread David Coggins
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I am running Karmic UNR Alpha 5 on an Asus EEE PC 701. When I ran update
manager yesterday a distribution update occurred. After rebooting I
clicked on files and folders in the UNR menu. Volumes cdrom0 and floppy0
appeared. Who put these into the linux kernel? Dell, for example,
obsoleted floppy drives in 2004. Why has ubuntu 5 years later
resurrected them? Obviously they are not present on my system because
when I click on them nothing happens. It is unacceptable to rely solely
on a closed source BIOS for information about connected devices. Linux
needs to probe the devices to see that their registers etc are active
and that the devices can be viewed by the user before making icons for
them. My EEE PC can potentially have a lot of storage devices and
phantom devices make the situation unmanageable. My current system has
sda, the SILICONMOTION 4GB internal flash with Xandros on it, a 320GB
Western Digital passport sdb with karmic on it, sdc which is an SD card
reader and sdd when I plug in a USB flash key as well as the external
Samsung USB CD burner which I use to make Linux live CDs.

[Bug 437405] [NEW] gnome panel and nautilus crash after Hibernate/Suspend during connection through sftp

2009-09-26 Thread glass.dimly
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Gnome panel, nautilus, and gedit crash when Nautilus and Gedit are
browsing text files through sftp connection and computer is hibernated
or suspended.

Not much else to report. This is a consistent problem for me. My system
information should be attached because I used the "Report a bug" feature
in Nautilus.

This is a serious problem that makes it rather pointless for me to
utilize suspend or hibernate. Suspend and hibernate are supposed to
save time, but when I encounter this problem I end up wasting about 15
minutes and losing all my settings, which defeats the purpose of suspend
or hibernate. I'd be glad to report more info, just tell me what.

[Bug 437402] [NEW] F-Spot crashes

Public bug reported:

The program 'f-spot' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'.
  (Details: serial 4506 error_code 11 request_code 53 minor_code 0)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

[Bug 314171] Re: Can't select Asturian language in gnome

2009-09-26 Thread Marcos
Hi Sebastien!
This bug is fixed for Ubuntu 9.10 karmic alpha 6 :D
Thanks very much for your work!! We're very happy!

I find 2 littles bugs:
  1. We must have installed the Asturian & Spanish language in Ubuntu. By
example:
  a. Asturian & Spanish & English languages installed: If I choose the
Asturian language in GDM, Ubuntu appears in Asturian.
  b. Asturian & English languages installed: I can choose the Asturian
language in the GDM, but Ubuntu appears in english.
This is a little bug, because it isn't normal has installed only English &
Asturian. Do you know something about this issue? :)

  2. Never appears the Asturian keyboard variant in the GDM. If the
Asturian keyboard variant is choosed in System/Administration/Keyboard,
in the GDM appears "Spain" variant, not "Spain (Asturian variant with
bottom-dot H and bottom-dot L)" variant.

Do you like that we create another bug for this littles issues?
You can close as solved this bug!
THANKS VERY MUCH FOR YOUR HELP!!!
Cheers! Marcos.

As of today's Karmic, they shouldn't be tampering with the main volume

apport report does not go to the VAR/crash file and the apport file
cannot be channelized to a bug report such as this one that is already

Suggest for higher ups that bug reporting mechanism be overhauled to
edit apport report (select all, copy, etc) and enable appending bug
reports to bug reports by bug report number, e.g., in our case here,

[Bug 305428] Re: evolution-data-server eats memory like crazy

2009-09-26 Thread Radu C
I'm not sure if this helps anyone, but I landed here after running out
of RAM and swap space. I'm not using Evolution at all, but I am using
Pidgin. The gang of three, made up by Pidgin, Notify-OSD, and Evolution-
Data-Server, were eating all my RAM. Now, I see that Notify-OSD has been
fixed in Karmic. I can blame myself for Pidgin's memory, since I use it
for IRC without closing the windows for weeks in a row. The only thing
left is explain EDS's memory usage without me using any Evolution.

When I boot the computer, and start Pidgin, EDS uses a bit less than 10
MB of RAM. When I ran out of memory, it was using 169 MB. I've been
running my system for two weeks to a month (didn't check the uptime)
without rebooting (just putting it to sleep) to get this.

Distro: Ubuntu 9.04 (i386)
Memory: 1.25 GB
Swap: 1 GB
System type: laptop

[Bug 437327] Re: Rhythmbox freezes when playing mp3s - Futex_wait

2009-09-26 Thread TheSurfer
When I start the program from terminal it gives this:

rhythmbox

  File "/usr/lib/rhythmbox/plugins/rb/Loader.py", line 43, in _contents_cb
(contents, length, etag) = file.load_contents_finish(result)
glib.GError: Bad Request

everytime I change a song.

I can't see the backtrack because when installing the package it says
"gpg server error".

[Bug 437327] [NEW] Rhythmbox freezes when playing mp3s - Futex_wait

2009-09-26 Thread TheSurfer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

I have a shared disk FAT32 with my music onto (.ogg - .mp3 - .wav).
I associated the folder to Rhythmbox so that when it starts it looks for new
entries.
The program starts correctly but after changing manually 3/4 songs it freezes;
I checked the System Monitor and it actually says Futex_wait.

I dunno if the problem is related to the search functionality of the
program because even when I search something and click on the result to
start playing the program goes "futex_wait" and so I need to kill the
process.

Thanks for your time.

[Bug 298651] Re: Using extended desktop, application disapears from taskbar.

2009-09-26 Thread chilihead
I just ran into the same problem after adding a displaylink device (EVGA
UV+).

Previous configuration:
9.04
Ati card with 2 monitors running an extended desktop. Moving a window to the
right monitor did not make it disappear from the taskbar on the left monitor.

setup: xrandr --output CRT1 --auto --right-of DFP1

Now i tried adding a 3rd independent screen using the USB converter, and
while everything else works fine i suddenly have the same problem:
moving a window from the left to the right monitor makes it disappear in
the taskbar.

[Bug 201291] Re: Add ogv (video) and oga (audio) as recognized extension for Ogg Theora and Ogg Vorbis, respectively

2009-09-26 Thread Benjamin Drung
The bug is fixed in audacity 1.3.9-3. It can open .oga files. It is
correct, that Audacity complains that Ogg Vorbis files normally end in
.ogg on saving. According to [1] it is recommend to use .ogg for Vorbis:
"Vorbis and Speex may use .oga, but it is not the prefered method of
distributing these files because of backwards-compatibility issues. "
