[Bug 440382] Re: evince crashes immediately after loading a document
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. [Bug 440465] [NEW] [karmic] removing pulseaudio breaks sound control
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-media After removing pulseaudio I've lost sound control. There is no sound applet, mixer or sound hotkey handler. This is a serious blow in modularity, usability and freedom of choice when usability of a system depends on unnecessary package providing bells and whistles. There are reasons for pulseaudio removal: Low cpu resources that should not be uselessly wasted (netbooks and old computers) Pulseaudio, as an additional component, adds noticeable latency. Current alsa can handle multiple sound sources without wasting cpu, without latency and without tweaking. That is the essence of a sound system. anything else should be optional. [Bug 439771] Re: karmic-desktop-amd64.iso (beta6) fails to boot into login window
ubuntu/karmic is used *only* for bugs that the release team has determined need to be fixed in karmic; it does not mean that the bug was found in karmic. Please don't attempt to file bugs there. This bug has so far been assigned to livecd-rootfs, ubiquity, and usplash. I don't think it's any of these. It's certainly not livecd- rootfs because that's just responsible for building the live filesystem and is not usually responsible for bugs in the packages that filesystem contains; there's no indication that the user here was trying to boot the installer rather than just the live system, and so it's unlikely to be ubiquity's fault; and usplash's job is done before the login window is displayed. I'm going to experimentally throw this over to gdm. It would be useful if you could confirm whether this still happens in the recently-released beta; alpha 6 was immediately after a major boot sequence rearrangement and was a bit rough in places. ** Package changed: usplash (Ubuntu) = gdm (Ubuntu) -- karmic-desktop-amd64.iso (beta6) fails to boot into login window https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/439771 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 440500] [NEW] formatting a FAT16 memstick to FAT results to mixed FAT16/FAT32
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-disk-utility I am using small USB memory sticks (up to 2GB) for tests and creation of Ubuntu LiveUSBs. Ubuntu 9.10 beta (+updates 2-Oct-09) gdu-format-tool (gdu version: 2.28.0-0ubuntu2) pc: EeePC 1000H Formating a preformated FAT16 USB memory stick results to a 'mixed' FAT16/FAT32 file system (?) My test: - attach a FAT16 formated USB memory (I used a 2GB kingston DTmini) - run Disk Utility to check that it is FAT16 (attachment fat16usb) - close Disk Utility - right click on USB memory icon, and 'Format' - format it with the default 'FAT' selection - (!) TWO file browsers will appear, close them - run again Disk Utility to see the FAT16/FAT32 mode (attachment FATedUSB) Disk Utility shows on left window: 2.0 GB FAT (32-bit version) at right: FAT (32-bit version) File System Partition 1 (FAT16 (0x06)) /dev/sdb1 mounted at... as shown into Type field: FAT16 (0x06) Also right clicking on drive icon Properties shows 'Filesystem type: msdos' As I know FAT32 and FAT16 are similar but different file systems. In any way if this is not a 'technical issue', the 'confusion' is: 1. it is not clear what the result is 2. IF 'forced' to FAT32 as default option (there is a button to select other formats) the result could be FAT32/FAT32 3. term 'msdos' is not descriptive and cannot match with one gdu option Regards, George ** Affects: gnome-disk-utility (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- formatting a FAT16 memstick to FAT results to mixed FAT16/FAT32 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/440500 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-disk-utility in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Any hopes that this annoying usability bug will get patched in Karmic? At least in Karmic Alpha6 (amd64), this bug is still found at least when using file-roller. How on earth user could possibly know that in order to get his/her files extracted to default location (usually /home/hername) he/she has to go up one directory and then back again? Gtk apps tend to output this whenever I move the mouse from one machine to another: sys:1: GtkWarning: /build/buildd/gtk+2.0-2.18.0/gdk/x11/gdkproperty-x11.c:325 invalid X atom: 39755776 (except they tend to say that or similar things many, many times). As far as I can see, nothing bad happens, it's just a lot of useless warnings. Please turn them off.
