Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a bug in gvfs. [Bug 542806] Re: In chat rooms, empathy should not scroll to the bottom whenever a new message is received.
Please fix this in the official repos before Lucid release. Empathy is the default IRC client and #ubuntu is AN EXTREMELY important element of the Ubuntu culture. BTW, when you first start Empathy, the wizard does not let you install IRC. You have to quit it and and go to create account to use IRC. It should definitively be so that when you launch Empathy (or whatever happens to be the distro default for IRC) it shoudl automatically sign you to #ubuntu. Like I guess some other IRC cients do. [Bug 558999] [NEW] 'givenName' LDAP attribute not supported
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution-data-server Evolution does not support the 'givenName' LDAP attribute when using an LDAP addressbook. This renders the use of LDAP-based addressbooks somehow useless, because (1) most other LDAP-Clients support this field and (2) Evolution can't write to an already present LDAP addressbook entry that contains this attribute. This is a real showstopper since Evolution is one of the few FOSS LDAP clients who can also write to LDAP. The solution is, however, a simple one-liner. It has been fixed in upstream for 2.30 already, but I'd like to see this fixed for Lucid as well, since Lucid is an LTS which will be used in organiations for quite a while. ** Affects: evolution-data-server (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: addressbook ldap -- 'givenName' LDAP attribute not supported https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/558999 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution-data-server in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 150690] Re: Can't drag a window to another workspace
This is still present in 9.10. I believe the most important issues are those a) visible to new users out-of-the-box and b) which obviously differ from Windows. Hence this is a very important issue which is very likely to be noticed by new users, who will base their opinion of Ubuntu (and Linux) on first impressions. This discussion has been underway for 2.5 YEARS and from a user perspective NOTHING has happened. If the tooltip is removed or amended to say how to move windows between desktops then the new-user damage is removed. This is a serious reputational damage issue. [Bug 555878] Re: [Lucid] Panel applets have problems
I've been seeing similar behaviour for a few days, various display issues with the indicator-applet and notification-area-applet. I've attached a screenshot I took yesterday where the indicator-applet was showing some rendering issues, and also my Network Manager icon wasn't showing in the notification-area-applet. I fixed it by killing both indicator-applet and notification-area-applet from a Terminal, and asking GNOME to reload them when it brought up the this applet has crashed dialogue. This only affects the workplace switcher applet, which I thought windows didn't have? You can still move windows between desktops using the option menu or the keyboard shortcut (ctr-alt-shift left/right). Or just dragging them to the edge of the screen. Not that I don't think it's important to fix something like this (a thousand paper cuts and all that), but there's no need for the hyperbole. -- Can't drag a window to another workspace https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/150690 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 558952] Re: gvfs-gdu-volume-monitor crashes at frist start up - beta 2
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. [Bug 156169] Re: Cannot change volume while on logon screen
This has annoyed me for a long time, also. It particularly affects first startup of the computer. Steps to reproduce: 1. Set your volume up reasonably high before shutdown, or otherwise ensure the volume levels are high in alsa at boot time 2. Reboot the machine 3. Log in 4. Arggh! The ubuntu login sound is breaking my brain! Smash the volume down or mute key several times Expected result: The volume should reduce or mute, softening or eliminating the din Actual result: The volume controls have no effect while the sound is playing, or for several seconds afterwards. By the time the volume keys work the desktop is already up. This affects volume and mute keys on keyboards, and also soft volume controls on laptops such at the toshiba model my wife uses. This bug may be targeted at the wrong package as noted by an earlier commenter: mixer_applet2 may be the place where this can be fixed. It remains a bug in the 10.04 beta version. -- Cannot change volume while on logon screen https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/156169 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
Re: [Bug 150690] Re: Can't drag a window to another workspace
Something is going wrong when my favourite o/s (of which I am a deeply appreciative long time desktop user and boring evangelist) can have all its window buttons moved top left and the background changed to lurid purple but the desktop switcher does not work (for ordinary mortals) as it should. Still broken in 10.04. Hyperbole? I don't think so. You can still move windows between desktops using the option menu or the keyboard shortcut (ctr-alt-shift left/right). Or just dragging them to the edge of the screen. [Bug 559050] [NEW] unable to unclone external screen with gnome-display-properties
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-control-center === Abstract === In xrandr, VGA and LVDS are renamed to VGA1 and LVDS1, so gnome-display- properties doesnt function anymore May be related to bug #353186 === Details === When I plug my external screen into external the VGA socket, it's well recognized and immediately clones my laptop's screen. But It's a 50 and my laptop only has a 9.8 one. So I want to have a very much more better resolution on my external screen. When I launch gnome-display-properties, everything seems ok. I see both screens. But whatever action I take in the application, it has exactly no effect. If I uncheck the clone screens checkbox, everything stays identical. If I try to change the resolution of my external screen, nothing happens. I've thought it was a side effect of Compiz, so I uninstalled it. Effectively, it solved the problem... until the next reboot. I investigated further and found this page (in french) http://www.matthieuamiguet.ch/actus/karmic_xrandr where Matthieu explains that his screens have been renamed in xrandr. I tried his manipulations and it worked.
