[Bug 614224] [NEW] hangs forever scanning afs

2010-08-06 Thread pat.pannuto
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-utils

I have an afs mount on my machine, and baobab ambitiously
started trying to scan the entirety of the afs network. This
will obviously not work and baobab needs to ignore afs mounts.

This is similar to #585314, but is opened as a separate bug to
bring attention to the fact that afs must be considered as well.

Description:Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS
Release:10.04

gnome-utils:
  Installed: 2.30.0-0ubuntu1

[Bug 588328] Re: Nautilus is not honoring the system-wide LC_COLLATE

2010-08-06 Thread Uqbar
Cedric, LC_COLLATE (as well as all LC_* settings) are environment variables
when they are defined, and not settings in a configuration file.
Nautilus should inspect its environment for localization variables like
$LANGUAGE and, of course, $LC_*.

[Bug 305546] Re: Nautilus crashing/freezing when opening folder with svg file

2010-08-06 Thread Lars
We must fix this somehow, but to get access to a frozen home folder:

edit---preferencesviews-'view new folders using:' and change from
'icon view' to 'list view'
(of course do this in a folder that are not frozen eg 'pictures' or something)

this will NOT solve anything else than that the home folder doesnt
freeze. until you do something with the SVG file...

I DONT want to go back to Windows, please!

[Bug 581618] Re: Restart session unexpected 10.04

2010-08-06 Thread Nils Fredrik Gjerull
I have also experienced this when surfing with firefox. I guess the
relevant lines in my messages log are:

Aug 6 08:47:08 gandalf pulseaudio[18588]: pid.c: Stale PID file, overwriting.
Aug 6 08:47:12 gandalf pulseaudio[18588]: main.c: Unable to contact D-Bus:
org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoServer: Failed to connect to socket
/tmp/dbus-hPAdop8fkv: Connection refused

associate with desktop session: Failed to connect to socket
/tmp/dbus-hPAdop8fkv: Connection refused

I don't know if this is the consequence of Firefox killing the xsession
(or dbus). I have attatched my syslog so you can see what happened
around 08:47.

[Bug 580961] Re: unzip fails to deal correctly with filename encodings

2010-08-06 Thread Adrien Cunin
Hi,

From the tests that I've done, there are two different bugs about non-ASCII
characters in filenames:
 * One reproducible with files created with zip on Linux: unzip shows broken
encoding filenames but correctly extracts the files
 * Another reproducible with files created on Windows, probably due to the use
if ISO encoding: unzip shows broken encoding filenames and extracted files have
a broken encoding as well

I've managed to fixing the first one by compiling unzip with -DNATIVE.

Looks safe, trying patch now that replaces g_malloc/memset with

[Bug 613650] Re: docking station and closed lid does not disable notebook screen

I found out additional details: Occassionally it was TV1 recognized to

the mouse completely out of sight on the right side was possible).

See updated blog post which describes the issue and offers a workaround

[Bug 488244] Re: Evolution netbook resizing goes wrong

2010-08-06 Thread Jacques
I did some experiment by using different translations for the Calendar
Toolbar, in particular for the long Work week that turns into Semaine
de travail in French and it solves the issue. So my conclusion is that
it is the fact that the toolbar extends beyond the displayable area that
causes the problem. All we can expect is tighter translations, I guess!
Alternatively, we can get wider screens... Mine is 1024x600 and one
could think the reduced height could be causing trouble, but not so
here!

In practice, I don't know how to suggest a change in translation to the
appropriate team. I would propose using Semainier instead of Semaine
de travail in French and that would do the trick.

Anyone knows who deals with translations of Evolution into French?

[Bug 494096] Re: Clicking the title of a window is bringing a window underneath it into focus

2010-08-06 Thread Farenji
Still (or again?) present in 10.04.
This bug has affected me since a month or two, maybe longer, not sure. This is
a nasty issue - multiple times I have closed a window that should not be
closed, due to this bug. Very irritating. It also happens when I try to move a
window. It is easily reproducable, every time. Why is it taking so long for the
fix to make it into the repository?

Ubuntu 10.04, no compiz, dual monitor, Human-Clearlooks theme.

[Bug 445084] Re: click-to-focus window is too sensitive

2010-08-06 Thread nomike
I'm runing Ubuntu 10.04 with latest updates (as for yesterday 18:00 UTC)
and gnome-terminal 2.29.6.

Here the problem is as following:

When you click on text in the deactivated window and move the cursor
around a few pixels, text gets selected. While this is not very
userfriendly it is at least expectable.

However when you click on a line end (area past the last character on a
line) the line end gets selected. To confirm I'm not moving by any
subpixel i used the Keyboard-Controlled mouse (from accessibility
settings) to perform the click.

Once the window is active this doesn't happen and you can click on the
same spot than before without any text being selected.

[Bug 614294] [NEW] Rhythmbox Unable to Play Music from daap share that requires passwor

2010-08-06 Thread Colin Perry
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Ubuntu 10.04 - Rhythmbox Unable to Play Music from daap share that
requires password

Clean install of Ubuntu 10.04.

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS
Release:10.0

Installed mp3 plugin (at I believe Rhythmbox prompt) when trying to
first play an mp3 file. File played fine.

Two NAS boxes on network:

 1) NAS1 - Dlink DNS-323, firmware 1.08

 2) WD1 - Western Digitial MyBook World Edition - firmware 01.01.16 with
MioNet 4.1.1.9

Both have built in daap (itune) servers. Both of these servers and their
music files can be seen and played under Windows Vista and Windows 7
using either itunes or songbird (with the daap plugin). The NAS1 daap
server is setup so that it requires a password to access the server.
Both itunes and songbird prompt for this password. WD1 does not require
a password.

In Ubuntu 10.04 both NAS1 and WD1 appear in Rhythmbox under Shared.
However, Rhythmbox could only list and play tracks from WD1. There was
no password prompt box when connecting to NAS1. No error message was
reported when trying to open NAS1 just no tracks appeared.

Q1) How can I get Rhythmbox to prompt for the NAS1 daap share password?

To investigate further I installed the Banshee music player. Initially
this could not see either NAS1 or WD1.

After a google search I edited the file: /etc/samba/smb.conf

and adding in the [global] section after the line server string = %h
server (Samba, Ubuntu)

  client ntlmv2 auth = no

Now Banshee was able see and connect to both WD1 and the DNS-323 daap
server, it prompted for the password when connecting to NAS1. I was able
to play music from both WD1 and NAS1.

The behaviour with Rhythmbox was unchanged, still no password prompt
when connecting the NAS1 daap share.

Could be very similar to:
#230583 connecting to daap share fails to ask for required password
reported for Ubuntu 8.04. The problem here was on 10.04 and the daap share was
automatically found by Rhythmbox, but it could not connect to it, apparently
due the lack of password prompt.

I will also report the Banshee samba issue as a separate bug.

[Bug 614080] Re: Did not notice anything wrong

2010-08-06 Thread Mitch Towner
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs
effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the
appropriate application's Help - Report a Problem menu or using
'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more
about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

Unfortunately, this bug report does not show anything that is
wrong I do really like Linux's WSOL (Working Screen of
Life/Linux) :)

If you are unable to reproduce, please change the status to invalid to
close this bug report. Thanks in advance!

[Bug 445084] Re: click-to-focus window is too sensitive

2010-08-06 Thread nomike
I'm using recent Ubuntu 10.04 with all updates up to yesterday 18:00
UTC. My gnome-terminal version is 2.29.6.

I tried to reproduce this bug using the keyboard controlled mouse from
accessibility settings. With that I could make clicks whilst ensuring
absolutely no mouse movement.

When the gnome-terminal window is deactivated and you click on some text
in the terminal nothing gets selected unless you move the mouse cursor
by at least one pixel.

However if you click on an area past the last character in a line, the
line-ending gets selected even without moving the mouse.

My workaround is to click the window-title or some part of the menu
bar to activate the window. Once it is activated you could click
anywhere without text getting selected.

However this is so annoying I'm going to switch to xterm, aterm, rxvt or
something similar by now.

[Bug 614303] [NEW] Totem Movie Player cannot Play MP4 Files - It Should at least tell the user this

2010-08-06 Thread PC
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

Clean install of Ubuntu 10.04.

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS
Release:10.0

The Totem Movie Player cannot play MP4 files. It lets one browse and select one:
  Movie - Open...
However, after selecting an mp4 file and pressing Add the dialogue box closes
and nothing further happens. There is no message at all.
The only thing that may appear to change is that that at the bottom of the
totem window it says:
  Stopped 0:00 / 0:/00

If it cannot play a particular file format it ought to at least inform
the user if i cannot play a particular file format.

I installed VLC (reports itself as 1.0.6) from Synaptic and this was
able to open and play the mp4 file.

[Bug 614240] Re: libglib2.0-0 2.25.12-1ubuntu1 failed to install: *** buffer overflow detected ***: /usr/lib/glib-2.0/gio-querymodules terminated

2010-08-06 Thread John Sergeant
By the looks of the bug reports on Debian, it seems that this is caused
by an over-eager compiler optimization (which probably explains why the
amd64 works whilst the i386 doesn't). It ought to be possible to bypass
this optimization for the one section of the code so I would expect a
pretty quick fix. Fingers crossed in any case...

[Bug 594571] Re: my screensaver asks password twice

2010-08-06 Thread Tommy Trussell
My system has stopped asking for passwords twice -- the original
behavior has returned sometime in the past week or two. Interestingly,
the only packages I can see that have had updates in that time period
have been:

xulrunner
firefox_3.6.x
firefox_gnome_support
firefox_branding

there have also been some updates to other packages lately, and I don't
know exactly when I applied them, but I suppose it's possible there is
some strange interaction among other packages. For example, there has
been a recent update to gdm, but I don't see an update from about the
time I STARTED having the problem.

[Bug 614266] Re: Empathy crashed Ubuntu while connecting

2010-08-06 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.
If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

I'd prefer a thorough fix for the release than a quick hack!
I'm sure that we all agree with that... *If* the problem is that the compiler

compiler fix.

[Bug 445084] Re: click-to-focus window is too sensitive

2010-08-06 Thread Egmont Koblinger
@nomike: Many people can reproduce this bug, while many other (incl. me)
cannot. You mention that the bug only occurs when the window is given
focus, not when it already has it.

Just wondering: is it possible that you're using a theme where the
window itself moves when getting focus? (I mean the inner content of the
window, not the decoration.) What window manager and which theme are you
using? Could you maybe please test the behavior with other graphical
themes, and with both metacity compiz, and with different focus models
(focus follows vs. click to focus)?

This might be a stpuid idea, but it'd really nice to catch the
difference between the good bad settings.

[Bug 195483] Re: Sound Juicer - MP3 quality doesn't change

2010-08-06 Thread Bruce R
Wow, just updating from a LiveDVD session of Maverick Alpha3 to let folk know
that, after adding sound-juicer and ubuntu-restricted-extras, 'Audio CD
Extractor', aka Sound Juicer's default Quality MP3 profile is now
audio/x-raw-int,rate=44100,channels=2 ! lamemp3enc name=enc target=0 quality=6
! xingmux ! id3v2mux, which then defaults to creation of 32K-320K VBR instead
of 128K CBR MP3s.
After applying sudo apt-get install gstreamer-tools and running gst-inspect
lame to consult the LAME settings, I then changed quality=6 to quality=2, which
sounds subtly better to my reduced frequency response ears and a lot better to
those with keener hearing !
I may now consult a forum genuine audio expert to see whether further 'tweaks'
should be made, but it looks like positive progress is now being made.

[Bug 614362] [NEW] Evolution does not update messaging indicator highlight if message status changes to read

2010-08-06 Thread Stuart Langridge
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

When I receive mail, Evolution highlights the messaging indicator
(correctly). However, if the unread status of that email changes to
read by some means other than me reading the email in Evolution itself
(for example, if I have Evolution showing GMail via IMAP, and then I
read the email in the GMail web interface), the messaging indicator
stays highlighted. This means that even though I've already read the
email (in the GMail web interface) and the email's status in Evolution
is read (i.e., Evolution *knows* that I've read the email, and no
longer displays it in bold), I still have to click on the messaging
indicator and then choose Evolution, to make the messaging indicator
realise that the email is read. Evolution should update the indicator if
a previously-unread email changes to read so that the indicator is no
longer highlighted.

terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 613409] Re: browser crashes
