Using patched xorg from Oded ppa fixes my problem. Keboard layout
changes on release and works like a charm. No side-effects affects to
me. When this patch will be included in official source tree and when it
will be available in repositories?

[Bug 666622] [NEW] gnome-dictionary doesn't look up words

2010-10-26 Thread danko10
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-utils

Ubuntu 10.10 - Documentation browser states

You can start Dictionary in the following ways:

Applications menu

Choose Accessories ▸ Dictionary

It's not there by default, when I manual add it via Edit Menus or by
manually running alacarte I can't find the Icon for the application.

When searching for any English word, the application fails to lookup any
word whatsoever even when I have an active internet connection.

Dictionary worked fine prior to upgrading from Ubuntu 10.04 to Ubuntu
10.10 - Note this is an updated distribution and not a fresh installed
one.

[Bug 643153] Re: maverick - 'user settings' hangs being root

2010-10-26 Thread Jeff Ebert
Reverting to gnome-system-tools 2.30.0-0ubuntu2 (from Lucid) does make a
difference. I also needed to install liboobs-1-4 2.30.0-0ubuntu1.

It eventually works, but outputs this warning:
(users-admin:3551): Liboobs-WARNING **: There was an unknown error
communicating asynchronously with the backends: Did not receive a reply.
Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the
message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or
the network connection was broken.

That may be unrelated, however.

[Bug 666637] [NEW] Vorbis stream not seekable in Totem

2010-10-26 Thread Jani Uusitalo
Public bug reported:

After recent changes in Jamendo's streaming service, it's no longer
possible to seek forward nor backward in playing time of their Vorbis
streams using Totem. VLC however lets me seek just as before. Also,
seeking does work if I opt the stream as MP3.

My main desktop is an up-to-date Lucid, and I've also reproduced this in
a virtual Maverick.

Set up: have Jamendo stream using external player, with Vorbis+m3u or
Vorbis+xspf. Associate said playlist format with Totem. Start streaming,
try to skip time within the playing track.

I've found an upstream bug which seems related:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=629212#. I didn't link it
straight away because I'm not sure if it's the exact same one as this.

[Bug 659695] Re: emails are not automatically marked as read after opening them

2010-10-26 Thread Fulvio
Same problem from me. I'm using IMAP over gmail and I'm using also my Nokia
phone in order to read the mail.
When I'm reading them from the mobile and Evolution is off, then the mail are
correctly marked otherwise the mail is still marked as unread also on the
mobile. Seems that Evolution will change the internal flag to unread when
he'it running.

[Bug 629258] Re: Battery life estimation never comes around

2010-10-26 Thread Thom Philips
Brian, you are amazing!

I've been through some early and difficult linux installs, many flavors,
a few savers.

Ubuntu has really been getting the hardware.

This is the deal changer for me and the growing amount of people I
convince to leave ms while they clutch at it with insecurity.

This first piece of hardware that's not recognized is either the deal
breaker or the many hour challenge for the tech.

Your power percentage is a sweet swirl of frosting on the cake. They
will eat cake too ;-)

I added your repository to the sources in synaptic, reloaded, then
marked install for the generic kernal header and update for the
(replacement) gnome-power-manager from you and whalla!

A working percentage display when clicking on the battery icon.

Public bug reported:

As the author of VIneyard, I can confirm that one of the extensions installed

For now a simple: sudo rm

 Bug description:
 Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

In Ubuntu 10.04, the gnome-power-manager seems to have no effect on my
laptop. I am running my Toshiba laptop with an external monitor and the
laptop LCD disabled. I've set the gnome-power manager to turn the screen off
after 10 minutes (the time is actually irrelevant), but the screen will
never turn off. It doesn't matter if I have the screensaver set to activate
or not. It also doesn't matter how much time I tell the manager to wait
before powering down the monitor. The monitor stays on no matter what.

[Bug 666719] [NEW] gnome-network-properties input boxes do not accept IPv6 addresses

2010-10-26 Thread Pieter Hoekstra
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

When entering proxy fields (for example HTTP-proxy) the input boxes do
not accept the : character. This character is needed for entering an
IPv6-address. (Entering a hostname wich resolves to IPv6 works fine!)

happens when copy-pasting an IPv6 address)

[Bug 606756] Re: GUI setting needed to disable or enable wake from suspend via mouse (or keyboard)

2010-10-26 Thread Glenn Coombs
Has anything been added to the new Power Manager version with respect to
this bug ?

I have only installed Maverick inside VirtualBox so far but I didn't see
any additional options inside the Power Manager application to
enable/disable wakeup using the keyboard and/or mouse. I guess it is
possible that they aren't visible when running inside a VM as opposed to
running on real hardware.

I plan to do a proper install this weekend and will recheck and confirm,
but at the moment I'm not seeing any change in this bug.

I'd vote for the addition of a border width control to the configuration
UI. Seems like Appearance/Theme/Customize.../Window Border would be a
natural place for it. Maybe something like the Pointer Size control.

[Bug 160311] Re: Resizing windows by grabbing window borders is difficult [please no more comments; patches welcome]

2010-10-26 Thread Jason Rennie
Hmm... I was able to increase border size for left, right, bottom
borders by editing the XML config as described by Troy James Sobotka
(comment #11). But, like Scaine (comment #58), I was not able to change
the top border, even after changing every value in the normal
frame_geometry block that looked like it might relate to the top border.
The 5px width borders on left/right/bottom is a huge improvement, but
the thin top border is still a bother. Does anyone know how to change
the top border via the XML config? Thx.

[Bug 666746] [NEW] Screen locked after hibernate

2010-10-26 Thread tsg1zzn
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

I unchecked lock screen when screensaver is active.
I set my user to log in automatically.
And I checked don't ask for password on login in user settings.

When I boot up normally I get logged in without any password. But, if I
resume from hibernation, the screen is locked and I need to enter the
password.

I hope you understand that this is annoying, and that it is not much of a
security feature since no password is asked if I start normally.

not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see

[Bug 666806] [NEW] [Maverick] APPINDICATOR automake-fu is broken

2010-10-26 Thread Maciej Katafiasz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon

As of 2.32.0-0ubuntu3, the automake-fu, as listed on
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DesktopExperienceTeam/ApplicationIndicators#Automake%20fu,
has been applied wrongly, for no visible reason. Namely, the original
bit:

AC_ARG_ENABLE(appindicator,

AS_HELP_STRING([--enable-appindicator[=@:@no/auto/yes@:@]],[Build support for
application indicators ]),
[enable_appindicator=$enableval],
[enable_appindicator=auto])

has been instead changed to:

AC_ARG_ENABLE([appindicator],
AS_HELP_STRING([--enable-appindicator[=@:@no/auto/yes@:@]],[Build
support for application indicators]),
[enable_appindicator=yes],
[enable_appindicator=auto])

Due to the way automake snippets are expanded and organised, this has
the effect of ignoring the actual value supplied to --enable-
appindicator and always substituting yes instead. The original form of
'[enable_appindicator=$enableval]' should be restored to fix it.

[Bug 666803] [NEW] update-desktop-database ignores defaults.list

2010-10-26 Thread Rumpeltux
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: desktop-file-utils

After uninstalling an acroread package, several programs (i.e. firefox
or thunderbird) open pdf files with gimp rather than evince although I
set up evince to be the default opener in nautilus which consequently
handles files fine.

Apparently the other programs start the opener which comes first in the
/usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache list, which is gimp.desktop. If I change
the entry to have evince.desktop at first, firefox handles the file just fine.
Each time, the update-desktop-database file is run though, the entries get
swapped again and gimp starts to open pdf files.
Consequently either firefox (or whatever mechanism they use to launch the
program) ignores the defaults.list or the update-desktop-database does.

This has been previously discussed at Fedora:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=496237

 Bug description:
Binary package hint: gnome-panel, nm-applet, etc...

 SUMMARY:

After graphical logon notification area gets scrambled. Icons are in
terrible mess. Some of them are overlapping others. Sometimes network
manager icon is missing. Sometimes phantom icons show up. They can be clones
of any other icons in the notification area. Bug affects any graphics card:
ATI, nVidia, Intel...

 WORKAROUND 1:

Run 'killall gnome-panel' from the terminal or Gnome's Run dialog. The
panels will automatically respawn correctly.

 WORKAROUND 2:

When you get your icons distorted right-click on the affected panel (not
icons) click Properties. In Panel Properties change panel orientation to
Left or Right and back to Top or Bottom. In my case all icons are
displayed properly, but one (nm-applet) is missing.

 WORKAROUND 3:

Right click the Gnome panel and remove the offending applets and re-add
them, i.e. Indicator Applet, etc.

[Bug 666833] [NEW] gnome-terminal background gets transparent when switching to profile w/o transparency

2010-10-26 Thread Benjamin Rampe
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

1) lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS
Release:10.04

2) gnome-terminal:
  Installiert: 2.30.2-0ubuntu1
  Kandidat: 2.30.2-0ubuntu1
  Versions-Tabelle:
 *** 2.30.2-0ubuntu1 0

100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 2.29.6-0ubuntu5 0
500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages

3) I wanted to switch the current gnome-terminal profile to one with another
color. Both of them have no transparency defined -- one colored background.
4) The profile gets switched -- all colors correct -- but with a transparent
background. Opening a new instance from this defect window does result in a
correct instance. To put it another way: only the first instance after profile
switching has unwanted transparency.

[Bug 666846] [NEW] Keyring unlock asks for password twice despite auto-unlock via pam_gnome_keyring

2010-10-26 Thread Robin Roth
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-keyring

I'm running ubuntu 10.10, with all updates as of today, especially
gnome-keyring 2.92.92.is.2.31.91-0ubuntu4

I have two keyrings: default and login, which were automatically created
and filled with passwords by applications (empathy, networkmanager,
etc). After changing my password some time ago, I had the problem that
the keyring passwords were not changed, so I did that manually to make
sure they are the same as the login password.

When I now login using gdm, the login keyring gets unlocked, but the
default keyring does not. I'm asked twice to enter it's password, before
networkmanager is able to use it.
I tried apt-get install --reinstall --purge gnome-keyring libpam-gnome-keyring,
but didn't solve it.

Because it worked in the past I assumed that the auto-unlock should try
unlocking all keyrings.
- If it should unlock all keyrings: Why does it not? Which logs should I
attach?
- If it's only supposed so unlock the login keyring: Can this be changed? Why
then do programs use two different keyrings at all?

Thanks a lot

[Bug 643153] Re: maverick - 'user settings' hangs being root

2010-10-26 Thread Milan Bouchet-Valat
Sorry, but we don't support logging in as the root user. This is highly
unsecure and strongly discouraged. I'm not sure what may be happening,
but it's possible something like a D-Bus policy is blocking messages
from being sent to root. You may want to have a look at
/var/log/auth.log for such errors, but nobody will fix the program for
this to work - and I really don't see the need for such a usage...

[Bug 666746] Re: Screen locked after hibernate

2010-10-26 Thread rohit (drcooper)
Setting

gconf key /desktop/gnome/lockdown/disable_lock_screen=true

along with password not asked on login in SystemUsers and Groups and
disabling lock screen when screensaver is active in Screensaver solved
the problem.

But setting the gconf key to true completely disables the feature of
lock screen.

@Brian thank you for your contribution. Seeing the % left for charging

reported here. It also highlight this bug was initially the indicator
applet not knowing how to deal with the time values not being there, not
sure where to assign this now.

I am attaching a screenshot taken after applying Brian's PPA update,
still showing time to full and time to empty as 0.

[Bug 644303] [NEW] Can't shut down. System does nothing when I click Shut Down...

2010-10-26 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: indicator-applet

Simply put, I click Shut Down... from the menu, nothing happens. I
have to go to the command line and enter in sudo halt to get my system
to turn off. This bug has only ever occurred with Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid
Lynx. I am currently running the 64-bit version of Lucid, and my system
is using the NVIDIA and Broadcom-STA proprietary drivers.

The bug seems to happen usually when I've been running the system for an
hour or longer. I'm sure you can see how big a problem this is - rarely
can I shut down via GUI. This is extremely frustrating, and as far as I
can tell, a very severe bug.

[Bug 666863] [NEW] Nautilus sftp suspend

2010-10-26 Thread Jonas
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

When connected to sftp, nautilus behaves unpredictable after a suspend/wakeup
cycle. Just now I was connected to a sftp-server at work. I put the laptop in
suspend, went home, and then woke the computer again. The sftp-connection is
displayed as still active. When I press the reload-button in nautilus, the
file-manager hangs for approx 60 seconds. Then it fails to reload, with the
following two error-messages:
- The folder contents could not be displayed.
Sorry, could not display all the contents of category: DBus error
org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes
include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security
policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection
was broken.

... and ...

- Could not display
sftp://utv...@utvikling.arcg...ner/html/com_content/category;.
Error: DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply.
Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the
message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or
the network connection was broken.
Please select another viewer and try again.

Clicking the unmount-icon in nautilus, and the reconnecting, nautilus
connects without problems.

However, I have experienced that a shorter/different suspend/awake-cycle
might give a different result.

Expected result: Trying to reload a folder should ultimately try to
disconnect and reconnect the connection if the connection is broken.
Alternatively, nautilus should fail gracefully with a single,
understandable error message.
