[Bug 561622] Re: No video thumbnail after thumbnailing timeout

2010-12-27 Thread Tim Froidcoeur
I have verified on Maverick, nautilus --version GNOME nautilus 2.32.0, and the
bug can still be reproduced as described.
Although the method proposed to reproduce is artificial, the bug occurs often
during slow copies or transcoding.

[Bug 693337] Re: Menus for choosing language should have one option per available translation

2010-12-27 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Hi David,

The idea is about _refraining_ from showing all the locales, both in GDM
and in language-selector's Language tab. (The tab in language-selector
for other locale settings is the place for showing all the locales.) At
the same time, the variants should be added to the GDM options as per
bug 408474.

Right now I have four installed languages: English, Swedish, German and
Catalan. While 'locale -a | grep \.utf8' lists 29 locales, running the
lang-list.pl script gives me:

caCatalan
ca...@valenciaCatalan (Spain - Valencia)
enEnglish
en_AU English (Australia)
en_CA English (Canada)
en_NZ English (New Zealand)
en_GB English (United Kingdom)
en_US English (United States)
deGerman
svSwedish

These are some of my questions for the time being:

* Would this be a suitable approach for determining available languages
  for message translation?

* Is listing the /usr/share/locale-langpack directory a safe way to
find available translations, or is there more into it?

* As regards languages with more than one translation: When the country
is not specified, does it matter which of the locales that is
assigned to the LC_MESSAGES environment variable? If it does, how do
we determine the main dialect of respective language?

/ Gunnar

[Bug 672873] Re: Installed GSettings schemas not detected on PowerPC

2010-12-27 Thread unsound
For eveyone's convenience, I uploaded an 'endian-fixed' version of libglib to
my web site:
http://www.catacombae.org/glibfix-ppc/libglib2.0-0_2.26.0-0ubuntu1_powerpc.deb

I only applied the patch specific to endianness
(fe225e7e7c7424fbfbdeb63c41db63c21f8f7751) to produce this build.
However I think it would make a lot of sense to completely forward to
upstream version 2.26.1 as there are more fixes in there.

[Bug 672873] Re: Installed GSettings schemas not detected on PowerPC

2010-12-27 Thread Jochen Fahrner
unsound, you are my hero!
Now user administration and Empathy are working.

First I tried it my own, installed glib2.0 source version 26.0 and
applied the patch. A make install installed the libs to
/usr/local/lib, not to /lib. So I copied
/usr/local/lib/libglib-2.0.so.0.2600.0 to /lib, and that crashed my
whole system. :-(

I had to restore this lib from the live cd.

Now, with your debian package it is working fine. Many thanks for this,
and I hope that this fix will find a way to the update manager.

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: gnome-utils

If user hold PrintScreen button few seconds there is a hundreds of screeshot

Correct logic:
1. If user press PrintScreen button call screenshot application.
2. If user still hold PrintScreen button and screenshot application already
launched just do nothing.
3. If user press PrintScreen button when screenshot appliation minimized - say
to screenshot application create new screenshot, but don't launch one more

2010-12-27 Thread Travis Watkins
I agree that the best solution to this would be to make gnome-screenshot
use libunique or something so you can't have multiple windows of it open
at once. Otherwise we'd need to special case this application in at
least 3 window managers.

2010-12-27 Thread RussianNeuroMancer
Yes, it's reproducible, but we need to be sure in which ubuntu component is
 the problem.
This is complex problem. Please read description:
 1. If user press PrintScreen button call screenshot application.
 2. If user still hold PrintScreen button and screenshot application already
 launched just do nothing.
 3. If user press PrintScreen button when screenshot appliation minimized -
say to screenshot application create new screenshot, but don't launch one
 more screenshot appliation.
You see - for provide easy for understanding behavior screenshot applications
should be fixed too.

And well, it could be also solved by correctly spacing the repetition of the
 print screen hotkey
What about item 3?

[Bug 549184] Re: brasero dialog please eject the CD yourself has a Cancel button instead of OK.

2010-12-27 Thread Jody McIntyre
I'm getting the same dialog as Joonas. I don't understand why this
dialog appears in the first place. It says The disc could not be
ejected though it needs to be removed for the current operation to
continue. - this is untrue. There is no reason why the disc even needs
to be ejected. I was about to reboot and boot off it, so it's fine
where it is. Why does brasero care?

A better dialog would perhaps be along the lines of The disc could not
be ejected automatically. Please eject it if needed. --- OK or simply
The disc could not be ejected automatically. --- OK

Or even how about NOT using a dialog, and just putting a message in the
main window: Image successfully burned to CD. The disc could not be
ejected automatically.

[Bug 694776] [NEW] On desktop, rightclick on DVD icon, clicking unmount, disables the DVD Drive

2010-12-27 Thread GreenDance
Public bug reported:

I have introduced 5 people to Ubuntu. Each user right clicked on the DVD
icon that appeared on the desktop when there was a disk in the drive and
clicked Unmount, thinking it was to eject the DVD from the drive, only
to telephone me up saying their DVDs were no longer working on their

Please can the unmount be removed from the right clicking of the
CD/DVD icon that appears on the desktop when their is a disk in the

2010-12-27 Thread TARUN KUMAR MALL
Please try to answer the following questions here:
1) If it is clicking on desktop, why is the package gnome-panel?
2) Does a restart let it work again? or is the only way to make it work again
to remount the drive.
3) What does the unmount mean if it does not mean unmount the drive? Is there
and eject also or unmount replaced it?
4) What if you click unmount in places instead of desktop?
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to
report bugs effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html.

[Bug 662947] Re: Network Tools - ping does not work

2010-12-27 Thread Wolfgang Kaesinger
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 359315 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/359315

Under Ubuntu 10.4 gnome-nettool worked fine. On 4 of my 5 PCs I
installed Ubuntu 10.10 (1 x 32 bit, 3 x 64 bit). Ping function does not
work any more, while ping from a terminal window works as well as
before. The ping function of gnome-nettool of the remaining PC with
Ubuntu 10.4 (64 bit) is o.k.. The bug described above is not a duplicate
of bug #359315, because ping function of gnome-nettool does not work
with any adress.

On Mon, Dec 27, 2010 at 20:13, Omer Akram om2...@ubuntu.com wrote:

plugins framework for empathy is not yet implemented. and I dont think
empathy developers would like to do this in the main empathy source.

then it's a telepathy bug, since telepathy has the services plugged into its
framework.
Skype would then be just another service, plugged into telepathy, just like
Google Talk, Yahoo Chat, Facebook Chat, Jabber, MSN etc..
How are these things called in Telepathy? Service Modules? ahh.. got it:
Conntection Managers.

So what this bug wants is a new connection manager for Skype within
Telepathy..

[Bug 694399] Re: cd/dvd creator will not burn iso cd

2010-12-27 Thread Phillip Susi
What kind of disc do you have in the drive? Also an iso file is an
image of the disc. You want to burn a disc using that image, rather
than place the file into a new cd filesystem. To do this, right click
on the iso file and choose write to disc, rather than dragging it to the
cd/dvd creator.

[Bug 694860] [NEW] clicking X in the window title bar does not QUIT Rhythmbox

2010-12-27 Thread nick
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

When playing music in Rhythmbox, clicking the X that is on the window
title bar closes the Rhythmbox application but does not stop the music
that is playing. If the user goes to Music Quit, then the application

[Bug 694862] [NEW] moving cursor over inactive window tabs changes their color to that of the active window

2010-12-27 Thread nick
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

If I have multiple windows active at the same time, rectangular tabs
will appear across the bottom panel. The tab I have open/expanded will
be highlighted a different color than the other (inactive) tabs. But
when I move the cursor onto an inactive tab it will change to a color
that is almost identical to the active tab. As a consequence I am
constantly selecting the wrong tab when trying to switch between
windows.

This problem would be easily solved if inactive tabs in the bottom panel
did not change color when the cursor is moved over them. ONLY the active
tab should be highlighted or shaded a different color. Then the user can
easily figure out which tabs are inactive even when the cursor moves
over one of the inactive tabs.

[Bug 553162] Re: Set $LANGUAGE if the user picks a different locale in gdm, so that language-selector and gdm stop disagreeing

2010-12-27 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
@trespasser (comment #87)
Personally I would like to see a GUI where users can seemlessly set their
locale preferences without knowing what a locale is, so I find your suggestion
interesting. However, it's beyond the scope of this bug report. These are two
places that may be more suitable to discuss your idea:

http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/

https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-devel

A wishlist bug might also be an option.

[Bug 553162] Re: Set $LANGUAGE if the user picks a different locale in gdm, so that language-selector and gdm stop disagreeing

2010-12-27 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Hi all,

As you may have seen, fixes to this bug report were released in Natty on
December 14, and yesterday Martin Pitt approved the last 'follow-up
fix'.

The issues were introduced in Lucid (Ubuntu 10.04), so I have prepared
gdm and language-selector packages for Lucid and Maverick with similar
changes. For the time being they are available at
https://launchpad.net/~gunnarhj/+archive/locale-test

Your feedback on the fixes would be much appreciated. For the case you
would find buggy behavior that was discussed here, but has not been
properly dealt with, please submit new, specific bugs. I for one picked
up one such issue, and reported it as bug 693337.

/ Gunnar
