[Bug 710538] [NEW] gnome-panel seems to depend on evolution
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-panel Problem: my gnome-panel dissapeared from one login to the next, after I removed some software that I don't need (and therefore don't want on my laptop). I only ever use googlemail and therefore wanted to get rid of evolution and thunderbird. After clicking on remove in software-center, everything was seemingly fine. But after a shutdown and restart, I had no more panels. It seems that the gnome-panel and a lot of other software was silently removed from my system while I removed evolution. To me this is very clearly a bug, although I not sure where. My first guess is, that gnome-panel should not depend on evolution, but it could also be assumed that software-center should have warned me. ** Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-panel in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/710538 Title: gnome-panel seems to depend on evolution -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 709935] Re: File MGR is very slow on any type fs
I have additional troubleshooting on this issue. I was able to reproduce the problem. If one does a file move, select a set of files and drag them to a directory, and gets impatient and does the same thing again, one can create a deadlock with two identical file operations running at once. The device looks busy and the spinner appears on any window you nautilus window you open on the device. I was able to cause this, and when I tried to logout, the system warned me that there were two nautilus file copy processes running. I said to kill them anyway, taking a chance, and when I got back in and checked the files, they were there where they were before the attempt to move them. Because of the slow response of this disk, a real problem with the model, I was able to deadlock two move file operations. For now I have to be careful with causing deadlocks with this model disk. You would know better than I if there is a way to prevent this in the code. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/709935 Title: File MGR is very slow on any type fs -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 478134] Re: Totem silent in VMware Player after Koala upgrade
thanks for your bug report and sorry for not getting back to you sooner. If you have a production system it is rather recommended for the user to not upgrade on every ubuntu release. LTS releases on the other hand are for those people who want system to be stable. also its preferred you upgrade to the LTS atleast after a month of its release so that if there are any critical regressions found by people they get fixed in updates. the development of ubuntu is incremental and on the LTS releases there are relatively less changes as compared to normal releases. [Bug 710780] [NEW] Brasero/ISOMaster ISO file compatibility issue with VirtualBox
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: brasero I was installing Windows for Workgroups 3.11 (WfW) in VirtualBox and it seemed a good idea to put all network drivers and other stuff in an ISO file to be used by WfW. I have created those files with Brasero, ISO Master using Ubuntu 10.10 and Nero using Windows XP. VirtualBox only understands the Nero ISO images and other images I downloaded from the Internet. The images created by Brasero and ISO master cannot be used, some directories show up empty and many of the files in the ISO cannot be read. Note that Nautilus reports a 2MB file size while the Nero Image is more then 40MB. While I was adding the files Brasero did give a warning about incompatibility with Windows and it would truncated the filename to 64 bytes, which seems strange for WfW files mostly 8 character filemames. The input files came from an NTFS network drive. The problem is not with the Guest OS, because there I tried WfW/DOS, Windows 95, Windows 2000 and Ubuntu 10.10. All those OSes showed the same type of problems. Ubuntu 10.10 is daily updated and VirtualBox is version 4.0.0. [Bug 710793] [NEW] I can read evolution email but it now never authenticates the smtp password
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution Hi, Version: Ubuntu 10.10. Evolution version: 2.30.3 Email address: jeremy.thomps...@btinternet.com Evolution worked perfectly for me for a few years. However, I was adding another account such that I POP mail from one account and send mail via my own SMTP account. The sending process asked me for a password. I eventually realised it needed my own btyahoo PW. However, it never verified that password. I deleted the new account and re-entered my own account. A friend also has Evolution, and my set up matches his. From then on, I have been able to read emails no problem. However, it no longer sends emails. Doing a Send/Receive it keeps asking me for the PW. I enter it but it always says Unable to authenticate to SMTP server. Bad authentication response from server. Ie, it is totally reproducible. I tried setting up my account on my other boot (MS Vista / Thunderbird email client) and I could send and receive emails no problem. Thus I have concluded it is a problem with Evolution itself, not my ISP. If I can, I will re-download Evolution from its host to see if that will work. I will respond if it works or if it doesn't. I apologise if it isn't a bug, but it is very frustrating:) Thank you. Jeremy Thompson. [Bug 710811] Re: durant la lecture des messages : Evolution crashes
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit. If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with 'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding. ** Changed in: evolution (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Medium ** Changed in: evolution (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/710811 Title: durant la lecture des messages : Evolution crashes -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 710892] [NEW] email TO: address string gets mangled during expansion
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution NOTE -- These symptoms might be related to those in bug #597087 ... full stop ... I have contacts with stored email addresses that look like {quotes included} lastname, firstname something@some.domain. During Compose new message, I can type any part of these address strings into TO: or CC: or BCC: and Evolution will suggest a contact email address that has matching parts. This much usually works. Once I select an address from those suggested, I use TAB to move to the next field and Evolution expands what I typed with the stored email address. Here, I routinely get a mangled string instead of what is stored. The mangled string has space characters or punctuation where they don't belong. These characters might appear in either the string outside of brackets mangled name okay@address -- or inside the brackets okay name mangled@address -- or both. Another aspect of this problem involves my efforts to edit and correct the mangled address strings. When I make corrections, I often get different forms of mangled address strings -- again with spaces and punctuation.
