[Bug 793381] [NEW] evolution crashes with segmentation fault

2011-06-06 Thread jo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I have a typical situation
I am across my office proxy using ubuntu 11.04.
I have set the static ip and also the network proxy to entire system through
network proxy settings.
I use and like evolution as my mail handler and i am using it for almost 5
years now. This problem which i will tell you was not there before ubuntu 11.04.
To update i use to use apt-get command from command window. it was not working
after upgrade to ubuntu 11.04. from ubuntu community i found out to add lines
given below in my /home/`/.bashrc
export http_proxy=192.168.90.94:8080
export https_proxy=192.168.90.94:8080
export ftp_proxy=192.168.90.94:8080

In evolution I have set network preferences as use system defaults.
Now when io try to use evolution to send and receive mails it does not work it
gives error of time out.
Next when i set network proxy system wide to direct connection and then run
evolution from user prompt in command window then the evolution starts fetchin
mails and sending them. I tried with removing the lines from .bashrc and then
using system proxy settings it never worked.
i ried to set proxy in evolution separately it still didn't work. This has
become a great unconvinience as if i use direct connection settings in network
proxy settings it stops browsers and other applications from using internet
across proxy and only evolution fetches mails. and vice a versa. Am i amking
any mistake. can this be set right.
Please help.

[Bug 788714] Re: gnome-user-share crashed with SIGABRT in g_option_context_parse()

2011-06-06 Thread Martin Pitt
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: gnome-user-share

- I booted from the Oneiric i386 20110526.1 daily-live CD, got the Oh no!
- Something has gone wrong screen (which is *not* the bug I'm reporting
- right now), logged back in with an Ubuntu Classic (no effects)
- session, and an Apport window came up for this bug. I don't have any
- other details to report, except that the crash described in bug 788710
- occurred both before and immediately alongside (perhaps just after) the
- crash described here. I have no reason to think they're related; they
- could very well be totally separate bugs, but I figured it would be
- prudent to mention that crash in this report, in case they are related
- (for example, in case that crash, which seems to occur periodically,
- triggered this one).

Is it possible to hide the groups with no connected contacts even if

[Bug 773541] Re: copying many small files to USB drive is extremely slow

2011-06-06 Thread cnctech
Copying to USB external drive is very slow and in most cases stops copying. It
would seem this is so for large files.
I have had problems with files over 200MB. Small files copy without a problem.
Copying large files 1G or more fails or slows to taking hours to complete a
copy. As the copy process goes beyond 200Mbyes the process slows down to almost
stoping. I cannot copy a whole directory. I cannot copy any files of more than
200mb without problems.
Clean boot with out running othe programs does not help. I have check drive
permissions , but this does not explain why large files fail too.
Test system
D510M0 Intel mother board with 2G ram. Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS with all up dates.
Samsung 320G external drive format 32.

Bottom line copying large files to USB drive does not work.

[Bug 793438] [NEW] [Oneiric] Gthumb needs libbrasero-media1 which is no longuer available

2011-06-06 Thread Matthieu Baerts
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gthumb

Hello,

With the new version of brasero, the libbrasero-media1 has been updated and
renamed. So we are currently not able to install GThumb on Ubuntu Oneiric.
If we try to rebuild it with the new version of this library, it fails to build.
As it doesn't seem compatible, it's maybe better to temporally disable the
support of brasero and waiting for a new version of GThumb with the support of
libbrasero-media3.

A bzr branch has been linked to this bug report in order to fix this
problem.

[Bug 773541] Re: copying many small files to USB drive is extremely slow

2011-06-06 Thread matteo sisti sette
Your problem seems the exact opposite of mine: I have no problem copying
large files and it is not slow. In my case what is slow is copying many
small files. It seems like in my case the overhead is in creating files,
but only when copying them (if I extract the same files from a zip
directly to the usb drive it's fast, and it's creating the files anyway)

[Bug 793450] [NEW] Calendar applet does not show today's date

2011-06-06 Thread Thijs van Dijk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

The calendar applet (the one visible after clicking the clock) is slow
to update its date field. Only after hiding it once, and showing it
again will it update the date.

Steps to reproduce:
1) Log in
2) Run a session for a day or two
3) Open the calendar applet by clicking the clock. Although the date in the
text field is correct, the graphic calendar still shows the date at which you
either originally logged in, or clicked the calendar before.
4) Hide it, and show it once more. The calendar now shows the correct date.

The conflicting visual data can be very confusing if you only summon the
calendar to find out what day it is. (I don't get much sunlight.)

Using gnome-panel-1:2.32.1-0ubuntu6.5 on Natty.

gthumb (3:2.13.1-1ubuntu1) oneiric; urgency=low

  * libbrasero-media1 is needed but no longer available (LP: #793438)
  * debian/control:
   - Removed libbrasero-media-dev build-depend. The new libbrasero-media is
linked
against GTK3, so gthumb can't use it until it has a full GTK3 port
   - Standards-Version bumped to 3.9.2
  * debian/rules:

[Bug 689837] Re: [natty] workspace switcher doesn't update preview

2011-06-06 Thread cpisbell
With classic desktop and four columns and one row of workspaces, I
find that a window close to the left-hand edge of workspace 1 disappears
from the workspace switcher view when I click on workspace 4 in the
switcher. (It is still displayed after clicking on workspaces 2 and 3.)
It can be restored by clicking on workspace 1 again.

My speculation is that this is related to Unity because only windows
near the left-hand edge of the screen are affected.

This problem is consistently reproducible.

[Bug 135352] Fwd:

3.6.17) I'm unable to paste. I have to paste first in gedit and then re-
copy/paste to FF. On the other hand I tested with Google Chrome and it
works fine.

In GNOME Terminal (2.32.0) paste does not work if I use the context menu
- paste. But it works if I click with the scroll wheel of my mouse or
Shift+Insert.

[Bug 793553] [NEW] I cannot configure GNOME so that my laptop does not suspend when closing the lid

2011-06-06 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: gnome

I often use my laptop with the lid closed, by SSHing in and having the
application windows displaying on the 23-inch monitor of my PC. Now with
Oneiric a problem occured. All the sophisticated, fine-grained
configuration tools were thrown away in favor of the much more
simplified apps in the new GNOME System Settings (I successfully
defended system-config-printer with the following Blueprint/UDS session:
https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/desktop-o-system-config-
printer-vs-gnome-3-control-center) and so there is no way any more to
select what should happen when closing the laptop's lid (should be under
Power and this is currently hard-coded to suspend the laptop. One also
cannot set the screen to never turn off (under Screen). Can we get
these controls back?

Michael's comment lead me to resolve this by removing the custom fields

This resolved all of the other error messages except for this one:

Unable to perform search.
This query did not complete successfully. Cannot connect to the service's

I am currently using libgdata11 0.8.1-1 from oneiric and experiencing

Re: [Bug 680148] Nautilus does not show emblems.

2011-06-06 Thread Rob
Thanks for your reply. A power spike during a thunder storm resulted in
the boot sequence of Ubuntu becoming corrupted. I had to reinstall from
CD. After that, the emblems were OK. Since then, I have never tried to
synchronize any folders outside the Ubuntu One folder and all emblems
display OK now. I think the problem resulted from my trying to
synchronize folders outside Ubuntu One and the other named home folders.
Thanks.

[Bug 793616] Re: lucid and maverick are incompatible with latest iOS

2011-06-06 Thread Marc Deslauriers
SRU Request:

Impact of the issue: Lucid and Maverick users that update the firmware
of their iPod Touch and iPhone devices can no longer access them in
Lucid and Maverick.

This issue was resolved by backporting a couple of minimal changes from
the upstream tree. These fixes already ship in Natty. See attached
debdiffs for Lucid and Maverick.

I tested this update on Lucid with gtkpod and rhythmbox on an iPod Touch
still running 4.0.1, and an iPod Touch that had been upgraded to 4.3.3.
The updated packages solved the issue for the new iOS version, while
maintaining compatibility with the old one.

[Bug 784519] Re: Natty: performance regression of Gnome terminal

2011-06-06 Thread Martin Konopka
I will test it and let you know then.
Now I have to say that I am getting the issue not only when the machine is
under a high CPU workload
but also when it is just up for some longer time (uptime), say 1-2 weeks or so
and it is of course used
for activities like multiple ssh logins to other machines, typing commands in
the terminals, text output
on to the terminals etc.
It does not help to close those terminals and to open new ones. I have to
reboot the whole machine.

Accepted libimobiledevice into maverick-proposed, the package will build
now and be available in a few hours. Please test and give feedback here.
See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how
to enable and use -proposed. Thank you in advance!

[Bug 711355] Re: Songs synced to iPhone 4 do not appear in iPod app

2011-06-06 Thread Luke Faraone
As I pointed out in comment 3, the problem has been identified upstream
in gtkpod.

The issue is that the new database format used by the iPhone cannot be
parsed by gtkpod.

The problem is confirmed. Please do not post additional comments just to
indicate you are also experiencing the problem; instead use the Does
this bug affect you? link.

[Bug 113230] Re: Status title should be gender-dependant

2011-06-06 Thread Maia Kozheva
I concur with emory. Statuses should be gender-neutral - in *all*
localizations. If the Russian localization is worded in a gender-
specific way, it's the Russian localization's problem. (I would suggest
gender-neutral Russian translations such as Нет на месте).

Empathy doesn't even have a setting for user gender and frankly, it's
none of its business.
